What is a Qunari or a Dwarf or a Dalish doing there?

Mercenary/Protection, Mercenary/Protection, acting as protection for Elven representative(s)? Le shrug.

I am curious. Why Ferelden is generic ?

Personally, I thought there were many people on the DAII board that wished something else than Ferelden while not everyone wanted the same origin.

It is very cookie cutter as fantasy kingdoms go, as they tend to be set in psuedo-England, which Ferelden is. The only point where they're not generic is the Mabari. They're the blandest kingdom, and thus offends the least, the oat porridge of fantasy so to speak.

As to why people didn't want another Fereldan is that we've seen Ferelden. We know almost everything about Ferelden, unless we start going into the Chasind, which seems unlikely. People want to discover new and exciting things, not trudge the same path.

You're not going to get away from Ferelden when the overarching story is about chaos in Southern Thedas, Orlais, the Chantry, and all that noise. This probably needs to be resolved before we start gallavanting in Tevinter or something.

There wasn't any dangling plot thread in Ferelden. They could just as well have set it in Nevarra and Orlais. It is the devs prerogative and all that, but I'd have preferred it.

Ferelden had been hinted of still having trouble with Orlais in DA2. It's also the home of Andraste and the Chantry. Which is in turmoil now. You're supposed to solve this.

Nevarra is the closest to Tevinter among all of these nations. Mages are more powerful there. It's not the first place to tell a Chantry story.

Anyways, it might not be the game for you if Ferelden turns you off that much. I don't want to convince to like them or anything. Hate them for all I care. :P

There a few "dangling" plot threads laying over from previous games, this game could be the perfect time to resolve alot of them so the developers/writers can tone down the "choices" for going into more DA games, it prob be a ton helpful to them to tie things up over this side of the continent before moving on an dealing with things like the tevinter/qunari situation etc

So it is confirmed that non magi humans are nobles, like in Origins, but they haven't said what nationality. I am a bit disappointed thatthe human mage wwon't be, but I am hoping we'll at least be Orlesian.

The Chantry actually condoned the subjugation of Ferelden, so I doubt they're one of the power players in Chantry policy.

Nevarra is the second most powerful Andrastian nation. They have the largest and most influential circle and the former seat of the grand enchanter. It seems that it would be relevant to chantry turmoil.

But this is offtopic.

So apparently the human inquisitor is called Trevelyan ( doesn't sound like a name from ferelden ) and he comes from a family noble.

So, I'd say, it's more likely that the PC comes from the Free Marches.

Hahaha ! I knew it ! I knew it ! The human inquisitor is a Marcher, not fereldan !!!!

Yeees !

It was confirmed by David Gaider in an interview today that the human noble is a Marcher, and that the human mage was sent to the Circle and stripped of their title and right to lands, ect. Also interesting stuff about Tevinter, but that's besides the point.

Free Marches is even blander than Ferelden.

That's because it has even less 'developed' lore attached to it. Ferelden is fuzzy, the Free Marches are practically faceless.

Not that this matters really, since the game will take place in Ferelden (yaay with little enthusiasm) and Orlais (at least Halamshiral palace looks nice).
