Let's be honest, most straight male gamers like myself only care for the sex and not the romance.
Your assumption is not entirely accurate. I'm straight and enjoy the romance bit a lot.
For fantasy sex ... That's what the www is for imho

I mainly reside in the ME section, MP to be exact. I'm not a reg here, so my excuse for this thread sounding redundant is valid.
It's great that others are excited for what has been shown so far but for me, nope.

There have been at least half a Dozen Threads like this in the past 24 Hours. This is at least the most civil one.

Well Okay lets do our best to keep this one going for as long as we can because usually this topic gets out of hand fast. Sorry if my reaction was a bit over the top but these have been popping up a lot. ![]()

Im liking what I've seen of Sera. though the others don't appeal to me. I mean I like Cassandra but not really sure I want to romance her...

Personally, I wait till the game comes out. If you know me, you know that my favourite Bioware romance is Jack, but I didn't have any interest in her from my first playthrough, but she grew on me after I got her romance scene by mistake and this was without knowing a lot of her other dialogue in the game as well... but yeah - a lot of it comes down to who you vibe with because we all see a bit (or a lot, depending) of ourselves in the characters we tend to enjoy and pull towards to.
Who says you have to romance anyone anyway?

I generally wait till I play the game before I make that kind of decision. Many times I will play through all the romances (over the course of multiple playthroughs) just to see how the characters behave differently towards the protagonist.

yep. It's just as amazing(if not more so) as the main story.

I have no idea who the romances are.
None of the characters interests me very much, though. There's certainly no Morrigan this time around. Maybe there will be an Isabella. Or at least, an Isabella who doesn't sleep around while she's with you. Just...that type of playful character who isn't broody over their "arc."

Vivienne reminds me of a pro-Circle version of Morrigan to a large extent. Maybe it's just me <shrug>

Far, far too obsessed with fashion, IMO.
And for me, it feels like the "intimidation" thing she has going on is just not subtle at all. Mori didn't use it much. Vivienne uses it over some ball.
Though I don't know what she's like as a person yet. So we'll see.

Yeah, im not into anyone announced or "likely" so far.
Dorian is ok, but in all honesty, i will probably never romance him. I never really play gay characters.
Iron Bull isnt confirmed, but he's the only one that im mildly excited for with a female character.

I am actually indifferent to romance. I mean I am like that in real life as well when it comes to romantic relationships. When I was in my teens romances in games meant and mattered a great deal to me. Now I am in my mid 20s and it doesn't matter.
I guess as that as I grew up, I end up seeing that the world, both virtual and real one, has a lot more to offer than feels and romances.
Now I prefer books as opposed to romances. I really hope Bioware has actual books that we can collect in game in DA:I to read.
Last time it was all just excerpts and codexes. ![]()
To me, life, both in a role playing game and the real world one has a lot more to offer as a bachelor as opposed to being in a relationship.
Speaking from a roleplayer's perspective, being a bachelor character opens up a lot more options.
One:- Your characters do not have to kowtow to anyone, even their followers whether you are the Warden / the Champion / the Inquisitor / the Dragonborn / the Shepard. They can be themselves without any excuses. They do not have to spend time specially appeasing any character or follower in game.
Two:- Your characters can make the decision others might not make. They have less to lose. They are there to save the world from something. They don't have to save it by gaining a love interest's approval. They can save it their way.
Three:- Your characters can engage in casual sex in game and not feel guilty about it. No attachments so no worries and no approval drops.
Four :- Your characters actually have some justification to go and do all the quests or adventuring. Take Skyrim for example. It will be quite hard to justify yourself from an RP standpoint to be married, have kids and still be a Dragonborn, an Archmage, a Guildmaster, a Harbinger, a Listener, a Legate, etc. That's just crazy. That is not much of a problem if your character is a bachelor.
Five :- Your characters can have deeper reasons to take up the mantle of the savior.
I have always done a no romance playthrough in all the RPG games that I have played. It is really good fun. I tend to switch my followers a lot more because if I was romancing someone in game, I tend to bring them around a lot so if I am not, I can be flexible with party selection.
So there is no need to worry. If you did not find the romance options you like, you can do a bachelor Inquisitor playthrough. ![]()

What a nice and civilized thread, color me impressed.
As for the topic at hand, may i inquire as to what you find dissatisfying with the possible romance options? , i am honestly curious.
For me i find Vivienne an interesting prospect for my human mage provided she meets my exceptions, should she fall flat my human mage might end up alone.
Unless scribe girl is any good (and seeing as we know nothing about her, its 50/50 at the moment), any non-mage playthrough with a human or kossith would involve either Cassandra or scribe girl depending on how they match with that character’s personality, though i would have liked a female kossith for my male kossith for lore sake if nothing else.
While i have never played a dwarf let a alone a female one i might be willing to give it a go should Varric prove to be a romance option...I just can’t get enough of his character.
I also might give Sera a go somewhere down the line should i hear favorable thing about her, as for Dorian...not going to happen as i have never played a gay male pc nor do i intend to.
My male elf though would most likely be all alone, I can’t see my dalish male romancing a shemlen and contributing to the extinction of his race, unless there is a female elf npc romance which i find highly unlikely... but a man can always dream.

None that I have seen/read about so far have hooked my attention like lets say Leliana or Morrigan have done in the past. Perhaps and this is a big maybe if Cassandra is a bi option I might might pursue that but other than her I'm not that excited about any of them.
I've noticed that some male posters here have expressed disappointment at Sera being unavailable *shrugs* can't say she interests me much at the mo. But hey the game is a few months away yet, lets see what happens eh. ![]()

You've probably managed to express mature disappointment over the LI options better than most I've seen on the forums lately. Kudos to you. ![]()

Unless Cole is revealed to be an m/m option I'm not too keen on any of them either. Cole's dead looking skin is way more attractive than Dorian's creepy moustache =p

I always took my wife in Skyrim with me on my adventures.
Also: No.

I'm disappointed that Cullen is almost certainly going to be straight, but Solas seems like a pretty chill guy. I just wish that his face wasn't so deformed.

Sera is likely Isabela like without all the sleeping around. Vivienne is the Ice Queen Morrigan was in DAO.

Must.... not... JUDGE...
(But seriously, Gaider said Cole basically has the mentality of a child. And he looks freaky with yellow eyes. And he has the mentality of a child. And he might actually be a possessed corpse. And he has the mentality of a child.)
