I recently bought myself a new comp, and DA2 to go with it. It's been fun playing so far, but I keep wondering: What happens if my canon Warden Commander is a human cirlce mage (last name Amell)? I played DaO on my old computer, but that was a couple years ago and all saved files are lost. 
I'm thinking someone like Cullen or Anders might say something, and then Hawke asks mom abut it.... "Umm.... mom? Do I have an older brother/sister?"
In that case the Warden is the second cousin of Hawke. As I recall, it is mentioned a couple times, but nothing more than that.
So Hawke's mother wouldn't also be the Warden's mother? As I recall, this warden was from Lothering so it seemed natural to assume.
Anders makes a reference to the Hero of Ferelden being a mage and Cullen mentions he knew an Amell in Ferelden.
It's also mentioned once in banter during MotA.
Leandra mentions it once at Gamlen's house, and so does Cullen in Act 2 at the Gallows. If it was a female mage warden, Cullen's crush on her is still evident when he mentions her. Plus, Cullen's entry in the codex mentions rumors about his crush on a female mage Warden.

Oh, shucks! Now I have to play a female mage all over again, just to see that! LOL
