Independent, yes... have no connection (which would of been better choice of words that "attachment", my bad)? I doubt that considering all of the characters involved, not just Cullen.

I like Cullen, but if he's a bad adviser I'll ignore his advice & probably avoid him as much as possible but I'll reserve judgement until I play the game

1. We are supposed to be nothing to do with the Chantry, so that is actually a point against him.

2. So he is an action survivor, says absolutely nothing about his leadership ability or his tactical and strategic acumen.

3. Cass is not the commander of the Inquistion, and the same point 1 that strikes against Cullen strikes against her.

4. You could have put in a genuine alternative view point, someone from a region, religion and culture that hasn't been explored, but no...another Andrastrian with strong ties to the Chantry it is...*yawn*

1. Cass is chantry loyal seeker and she chose Cullen. It was not our choice.

2. That says that he has strong mind which is needed for leadership.

3. Look number one. Cass is creator of Inquisition although Inquisitor becomes head of it.

4. That's true, there could be character who brings different view point. However it doesn't have to be either. Having same characters adds continuity between games of same series.

was the first to pop up on google.

Independent and contains Chantry affiliated characters isn't mutually exclusive, nor does it speak to who would make up the foundation of the Inquisition imo

Well I think at the start The Inquistion may be very "Chantry" Centric because of Cassandra,Leliana,Vivienne and Cullen but I intend to put a stop to that nonsense ASAP.

I figure most my playthroughs well end up with all four hating my Inquistor and I get the feeling they are permanent so the war room briefings/meetings are going to be funny.

How I would deal with Cullen

Cullen-There are dangerous Blood Mages fighting some Templar forces we must act Inquistor.

The Inquisitor-Maybe later "Goes back to playing Diamondback with Varric, Iron Bull and Sera".

3 Hours Later....

Cullen-Inquisitor there you are we can still save those Templars if we act fast.

Cullen-Inquisitor what are you doing now?

"The Inquisitor walking and countiing his winnings chuckling to himself".

The Inquisitor-Oh Cullen did you say something I didnt hear you because I wasnt listening.

Cullen-Inquisitor the Templar forces and Blood Mages we must act sir before its too late.

The Inquisitor-Your absolutely right we have to do something.

Cullen-I will go and prepare our forces.

The Inquisitor-Yes as soon as I finish Brushing and Feeding my Red Halla Mount we will act.

Cullen-Wait what

The Inquisitor-Yes we will aid the Mages prepare the men Cullen we will destroy those Red Templars.

Cullen-Sir those are not Red Templars.

The Inquisitor-Yes they are I see them they are red now go get the men ready for battle toady.

The Inquisitor wearing red tinted glasses walks away humming.

The city was overrun with rogue templars and rogue mages. Presumably, gangs would also take advantage of the destruction to do some looting and whatnot. Kirkwall had to be recaptured and pacified before it could be rebuilt, and that was Cullen's job. Apparently he did it pretty well.

If that's his job, then whats the purpose of the city guard? Depending how much of the guard is left at the end, they would most likely handle things with help from Aveline and Hawke.

He's just an advisor anyway. You can totally ignore his advice, even if it's good advice if you wanted to.

I do not wish him within a hundred miles of any of my troops, let alone in a position with any command authority.

wow... I only read a few posts here, I am not a Cullenite but I really need to state this.

In order to become a Commander in armed forces, requires experience, doesnt necessarily mean more than one years worth cause some are natural leaders too (proven in many of our wars), which Cullen had basically a year's time minimum. Everything he did in DA2 isnt necessarily shown or talked about in specifics, nor the time He was still remaining in Circle Tower. We saw them standing around when we came across them, didnt mean they actually just stood there while PC wasnt in that area. Not only that, after 10 years (which could technically put Cullen into a Colonel's position depending on actions) is alot of time in a military force. Remember, Cullen is military, he isnt a civilian, Templars isnt just an order, they are a military force.

Knight Commander isnt just given away lightly, nor is a Commander, Captain, Colonel, Field Marshal or any other high rank. A story of an LT, he helped get into a gun position, took out artillery, later moved to other locations, being very competent, before 4 years he was a Captain, by 4th he was a Major, A real man, fought in WW2. Climbing ranks cause of skill/natural leadership has happened throughout time, Cullen is one of those. 3 years is all it took for a guard to become Captain of the Guard, Aveline.

As of right now, I dont really  care much for Cullen cause he's a templar.

Hahaha ! I hope Dragons and Wyverns like Chantry loyalists for dinner. After all, my mounts and possible pets need nourishment.

You have actually solved the problem of having too many Chantry people around.  :P

We don't know when Hawke left Kirkwall. It's possibly he left near after the events of DA2.
As for Aveline (in the case you supported templars, otherwise she left the city), I'm sure she tried to help people and to restore order. Cullen just was (possibly) more successful.

Without Hawke, he probably disband the City Guards like he planned to do from early Act 3...

I dont hate Cullen I just think he is kinda boring and to make his even being in DAI B-Ware is trying to make him awesome at the expence of Hawke.Yeah I guess my Viscount Hawkes didn't do anything to help Kirkwall sure. <_<

And am I seeing things or does Cullen look alot like Alistair?

For those that are curious about DG's thoughts about Cullen being fan service, I direct you to this thread here:

http://forum.bioware...vice/?bioware=1

In my experience, the things we might put into a game solely to make fans (or a select group of fans, anyhow) happy tend to be pretty small in scope. Anything larger than that is going to require justification. At least someone on the team will need to believe that thing's inclusion has merit to the story or the game at large.

Fans like it when something they've been rooting for gets included in a title. When it's something they haven't been rooting for, but which others have, then it becomes "fan service" and a bad thing. In the case of Cullen, that gets laced with some extra venom because the fans who would be most excited about his inclusion (if, indeed, he's included in the way that some appear to assume) are both female and likely interested in romancing him.

And, for the love of God, why would we try to make them happy? To what new low has BioWare sank?

Try to maintain a bit of class, people. If something does get included that a group of fans would be excited for. no matter what the reason is, instead of being jealous try to be happy for them.

That doesn't address my concerns. Fanservice was one of them, but Cullen simply isn't a good Advisor or leader without some major changes.

I'll see what they've done with him, but Cullen from the first two games is not someone I'd consider of good judgment.

We know already that Hawke left Kirkwall. It just seems it happened earlier then I expected (though who knows, maybe they worked together to restore the city?)

The blurb (as well as a fan speculation on what Cullen Could be that was said by Gaider to be accurate, though I wouldn't use it as proof) suggested that he changed.
