So i'm not some godlike player like a lot of people on here, but i like to think i'm pretty good at this game. But for the life of me i can not get any of the volus characters to work for me. I'm BARELY passable with the engineer, but other then with him i fall flat every single time. I was just wondering if someone could give me some advice about weapons, builds etc.? I've played with a couple really great volus players in the past that have blown my mind and holy crap i want to do that what they do ![]()
How do you volus?

Engineer + Falcon + Incendiary Ammo ... mine, falcon to lock in place and prime, detonate ... killstreak
Adept + CSMG ... you can use incendiary ammo to prime and orbs to detonate, or stasis and shoot, or stasis and orbs
Mercenary ... just throw on a Typhoon and go to town
Vanguard ... Batarian Gauntlets + Talon + Incendiary ammo and spec everything for power recharge
... yeah, I get through a lot of incendiary ammo.

The Arc Pistol works wonders on all Volus characters.

If you're not doing it already, spam cloak! Playing a pathetic Volus by definition means hardly anyone is going to waste their time on you. By making yourself invisible you can basically kill everything without having to worry about counter-fire much. It always amazes me when I see Volus pugs who spam SB 24/7 without doing anything useful.
Pick a good gun. Volus don't have the most potent powers so you need firepower to make up for that.

I'll give arc pistol a try, i've been using venom(cuz venom) and i've been doing alright. Still go down way too much for my liking though. And i haven't been spamming cloak really lol, but i'll do that as well. Thanks.

That there's the Volus Whaler build, using the Kishock. I forget which thread that's in.
I remember that too. I was looking for it as well, and couldn't find it. Shame too it sounded like a lot of fun.

I consider the Sent quite easy, especially against Geth. Make use of cloak. Cloak out of enemy LoS (like you should with TacCloak for the purpose of evading enemies). Use SB sparingly and watch your timing - using it when being hit does quite nothing and be aware it can lock other players when you do it while they reload. Pick big gun. Don't forget about the bubble.
Volus have a lot of gimmicks, they - more than any other kit - offer many opportunities to get the timing wrong. I'd say cloak is a crucial thing to master. Once you got it wrapped survival should come a lot easier.

Here is how I use the volus adept!
...Not really this is Hoochie's Volus Adept build ![]()
- Kishock build is the same, with Stasis set up this way you can one-shot Phantoms (at least on gold) very easily. As Hoochie mentions in the vid the Biotic orbs are a great detonator and the debuff you get from them helps the Kishock to get rid of boss units very quickly.
- Engineer is probably the most straight forward volus to use so i'll skip explaining how to spec him.
- The Merc lacks any real offensive capabilities with his powers so your going to want to use a weapon with very high spike damage (Arc-Pistol, Claymore, Wraith etc). I personally spec the drone for the shock evo on rank 5 and then rockets on rank 6 (just for bit extra offensive damage). You can go for Chain Lighting on rank 6. Spec out of decoy because the combat drone is a better decoy anyway and abuse the light melee (applies to all volus really). It is very easy to Reload Cancel with Shield boost so my favourite weapon on him is the Claymore.
- Volus Vanguard I spec as 64664, orbs are specced for recharge speed use something cheesy like the Acolyte or Reegar.

Alright, well i guess i'll put up with the frustration a little longer till i get it lol.

I used the PPR a while back and was kinda let down. Not a bad weapon, but not as great as i thought it would be. Of course it was level one though. I assume it's one of those weapons that improve significantly as it levels up?

Can't believe i didn't put the piranha on him yet. it's one of my favorite shotguns. Kinda surprised on that one lol. I shall try that as well when i get on. Hope the pugs don't get too mad at me for going down like crazy tho lol.

It is. Usually it's pretty great already at I, but for a volus it's probably too weak. Also, PPR is pinpoint accurate and you need to capitalize on that with headshots.

Adept: PPR with extended mag, extended barrel, AP ammo
Engineer: Herpecane with stabilizer, extended mag, AP ammo.. CSMG X is fine here if you have one.
Sentinel: Typhoon or Claymore.. his weapon does 99% of his damage.. he's gotta have a good gun.
Vanguard: Lancer with HVB, extended mag, Disruptor ammo. Charge your ass off and make tons of tech bursts with your face.

After trying this and that I've found that I like using the Venom the most with the Volus, because of the staggering and AOE. My style is pretty much:
Cloak
Get close
Cloak
Proxy mine/Drone/Statis
Shoot until dead
Cloak
Shield boost if near death.
