Nuclear reminded me - yes do abuse the damn free cloak, and over abuse it. Not only can a Volus stay cloaked throughout the entire match, but he does it CD free.

For those new to the game - Volus cloak has two CDs - one engaged while walking and the other while running. This means that if you engage cloak while walking, start running, and as soon as the "walk cloak" wears off, you can engage cloak again imidiately, meaning you can stay cloaked (theoretically) 90% of the time.

This is not something you'd normally do in a coop match but having this option in addition to SB and bubble make the Volus incredibly survivable considering his defense values (health/shields).

Hm. I keep forgetting that the Volus cloak ability is not an LB or RB power, but rather a 3-second invisibility aside.

In any case, I think it's because while I'm racing for cover to go invisible is also when I'm not close enough to Shield Boost teammates. Sure I can cloak right beside them but that defeats the purpose if the enemy saw me before I cloaked which makes it more difficult to revive even while spamming Shield Boost.

... maybe I need to use cloak more strategically or something?

Never mind. I find it better to go invisible either way because it benefits more than hurts in any case. You are reviving, in most cases you'll have a clear CD for an afterwards SB which will optionally give both you and rescued teammate some shield and DR. Besides, enemies that are just coming around the corner won't see you if you are cloaked as they enter LoS ;)

Ignore Decoy on the Sentinel, spec Detonate, Shock and Chain Lightning on the Hypno Drone, take the PPR and melt stuff. You never have to visit the ammo boxes and lolphantoms are always fascinated by the Drone.

Phantoms are always fascinated by the drone  :D but it's also very fun to see them slash your decoy instead of you, and the decoy will fascinate them just as well as the drone even if you nimbly cloak afterwards and escape unharmed.

Of course I wouldn't know anything about that in general purposes as I'm a filthy Venom spammer ball of death, stagger, and screen shake

I don't shield boost that much. Objectives, revives, the rest is as needed. If you're spamming shield boost you're not doing damage with powers. Maybe once a wave I hit shield boost outside objectives.

Just gonna add a little footnote ... going toe-to-toe with a Banshee, shooting it in the face with a Typhoon and timing Shield Boost exactly right so that you completely negate the Banshee's warp ... priceless :)

Works for Praetorian Lazors too.

This will be the first thing i do for sure when i get back on. I've only used a volus for like, maybe 3 games against cerb so i haven't had the privilige of doing it yet.

FYI, Swarmers die by Shieldboost. Be lucky you have something helpful that kills the strongest enemy in the game.

You can actually completely discard SB and tank her with bubble. If there are two, then it gets a bit harder to pull it off without an occasional SB since they'll be spamming all their attacks frequently.
But try it with one on a slope and it's important that you're in the bubble before she warps you, claws you and stuff.

If you time the bubble before each of her attacks, you won't loose your shields once.

I did use the Venom on my Engineer once, it was not very pleasant. Because volus are short, you have to aim it a little farther than from your feet.

spamming shield boost is the only true way to play volus. also to try to glitch other players from using their guns/powers so that you become the better player.

on a slightly more serious note, shield boost is a pretty good reload cancel. I feel using medigel to do so is bit too much like cheating.

The quality should be better in a few minutes.

I am currently uploading another Volus Merc gameplay vid. It should be uploaded in 2 hours.

That's a lot of autoaim abuse lol..

First rule: Abuse the light melee cloak. This goes for all the volus.

Second rule: Don't spec in fitness. Also goes for all volus.

Third rule: Spec for maximum weapon damage in passives for all volus, except for vanguard where you may want to get rank 4 in power damage to get biotic charge force beyond 1000N.

Engineer: Arc pistol with disruptor ammo or CSMG with incendiary ammo. Place recon mine at spawn or near enemies and the proximity mine. Start shooting till stuff is dead. Use shield boost if get hit. Kill stuff and move on to repeat elsewhere.

Sentinel: Arc pistol with disruptor ammo. Throw the decoy near enemies and drone at the enemies. The pets will divert sttention and stun the enemies. You keep shooting with the arc pistol till stuff is dead. Shield boost if hit.

Adept: Arc pistol warp ammo, Wraith with warp ammo. Spec the biotic orbs for debuff (15% per orb). Use stasis to kill and control mooks apart from armored ones. For armored guys, throw your orbs for the debuff and kill them swiftly. Get your orbs back. Use shield boost when hit.

Vanguard: Wraith with incendiary ammo. Spec biotic orbs for debuff and biotic charge for weapon damage. If an enemy is in a risky location, don't charge. Just use shiled boost if you need your shields and throw the biotic orbs to get the debuff. Otherwise, charge the mooks and kill them with weapon. For bosses, use the orbs for debuff and charge them to get about 70% boosted weapon damage to kill lthem quick. Use shield boost if hurt or use biotic charge if an approachable enemy is nearby.

Sadly, this only works onHost. Offhost you get thru-wall lazor'd to death, from full shields -without ever seeing the damn Praetorian.

And then shield boost your corpse afterwards <_<

Just to add to the VMS. You can block the banshee warps with your decoy if coordinated correctly, for example using the long straight walkway from firebase dagger the one that acts as an alternate extraction point, if the banshee is a couple meters away from you, while she is about to cast the warp you can place the decoy in front of you as the warp starts aiming towards you it will hit the decoy instead acting as a mini wall. Not really all that useful considering if teammates are with you shooting the banshee the warp could hit your teammate instead, or if a teammate is a caster and triggers the immunity to powers phase cancelling her from casting warp.

Another thing for all volus kits I don't think anybody has mentioned this is that you can activate heavy melee in mid air if you drop down from like a ledge so you can stagger a mook enemy from below like a centurion, this is also useful in case you see a praetorian lazer from the distance as you drop down. This I find makes it safer to drop down from ledges then your volus getting back on his feet.

A cool tip with the combat drone providing you chose the suicide drone route, when a geth bomber drops a barrage of grenades before the grenades blow up you can cast combat drone next to the geth bomber so when the grenades blow up the combat drone will explode next to the geth bomber for additional damage.
