Try the Talon on the vanguard, run with the heavy barrel and incendiary ammo.  Spec the ballz for recharge, spec charge for multi-charge and go to town.

 

He won't score the highest, but he can be fun to play and pretty survivable with 3x ways to regain sheilds (don't forget heavy melee), and an on demand mini cloak.

 

Cloak just before a charge, charge, pop a few talon incendiary rounds, and charge again (FIRE EXPLOSION!), and maybe again, and again, if you get lucky with multicharge... lather, rinse, repeat.  Cloak and escape when it get's ugly.

I have on a rare occasion... but it was embarassing for the other "team" members 

 

Damn shame I don't see many people playing VOLUS.  I play the engineer often too, built to debuff enemies for the team with both mines.... bosses just melt away in record time.

I did use the Venom on my Engineer once, it was not very pleasant. Because volus are short, you have to aim it a little farther than from your feet.

True, I had some problems getting use to the hight but it didn't take long before I got it. What's awesome is that it alows you to stager even larger clusters of mooks and you can do it in a fly by.
Venom works wonders particularly with engy because he already has two good AoE powers, and you can use the Venom to align them perfectly on that RM or prime multiple targets for detonation.

I played with a Volus Adept who was going for an Infiltrator build. He just poped stealth to drop aggro. Then used Stasis on some poor folk and sniped them to death. Used Orbs for CDR only I think.
