A bit interesting how BW keeps releasing official sceenshots of their game if things are still WIP. People will get the wrong impression and conclude that it doesn't look that great as they claim it to be.

They are not showing off their HD textures, they're showing off their characters, something that the fans have been asking for months now. When looking at all the new pictures, it's important to keep in mind how huge the leap in graphics is compared to DAO and DA2. I think we can deal with 2% of the textures not looking mindblowing if the rest 98% looks great.

Speaking of that, i wonder if we will get a HD texture pack for machines that can handle it.

Why must we pick apart a game that isn't even done yet?

No one's picking the game apart.  Why must they post those flawed official screenshots?

And often when you reveal something you want to make a good impression, whatever the reasons were for showing it in the first place. Certainly, the game looks great there is no argument there, but it is the level of quality on how great it really is that stems this debate.

A lot of praise has gone to the new engine and when people see something that doesn't add up to the quality they expected and / or have seen previously, raises questions / anger. Releasing a screenshot of something that is WIP is often a bad idea since there are always people who won't comprehend and misunderstand it and disect it to death.

I've supported Kickstarters for games like Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Paradise Lost: First Contact, and most recently Insomnia. I recently bought Shovel Knight, Baldur's gate I & II enhanced edition, Psychonauts, Risk of Rain, and The Wolf Among Us.

Please explain to me WHY I should care about this screenshot?

Because the visual quality of this game is not consistent. Thats my main issue with this screenshot. DAI has some pretty awesome lighting, with mostly awesome textures and character models but then we get stuff like this (terrible low poly meshes, heck even DAO had better ones) and terrible hair.

YMMV of course.

We're gonna be seeing a lot of this armour close up via cutscenes. I really, really hope they improve it but with 2 months to go before the game goes gold...they shouldn't even be using placeholder meshes at this point.

Just because the game is out in three months really means nothing. Remember Watch Dogs?

Isn't everything a WIP until the game is released? Should they just release nothing then?

I think it's a pretty small group of people that notice something like that to be honest.

Although I wish he was wearing something more akin to the Templars, that armor is the best looking in the game. So f. sweet.

I disagree. He's part oft he Inqusition now. Having the symbol of the order on his gauntlet is enough.

Well, you've told me why you care, but that litterally means nothing to me. There are plenty of games out there that (in my opinion) spend too much time on graphics and not enough on story and gameplay. As far as I am concerned they can leave Cullen's look as is if it means they spend more time debugging, balancing and/or adding more content to the game.

This is like taking a half-baked cake out of the oven and complaining that it's not fluffy enough.

When the game is released, start nitpicking it apart as much as you want.

It's pretty obvious that the texture looks bad. Whatever it is supposed to represent.

No reason to go into "WIP" or that stuff. The game is out in 3 months.

The environments look awesome in DA:I, but, unfortunetely, characters and armor look kinda worse. I hope i'm proven wrong in game.

Although, to be fair, not all characters and armor look weird. Only specific ones, and specific armor. So there is hope.

So this should tell you that some textures are incomplete. Would you have preferred they delay any pictures of anyone til they were complete?

We can't have everything we want.

No, not everything, and usually you tend to release stuff that is finished or looks close enough to be, to give enough of a good impression of what they will be offering.

Not going to speculate how large of an audience criticizes it, but generally the viewpoint is that the less people that do the better.

Well... I do not see the problem : A Bioware game without any crappy resolution texture on some of the main characters is not really a Bioware game...

We know this since 5 games... Not really surprising...

Yes.

The Cullen thread, like most character fan threads, tends to be populated near exclusively by fans who are interested in that character as a potential LI. I don't visit a lot of fan threads (including Cullen's) for that reason.

Take the Iron Bull as an example. I thought he looked pretty cool, peaked in the Iron Bull thread and I see lots of suggestive fan art or people taking about all the dirty things they want their Inquisitor to do with the Iron Bull. Those sorts of things don't bother me in the least, but since I don't share those opinions, I said 'nope' and left.

It's a little low-resolution for a high-resolution pic but I chalk it down to them using a low-res texture placeholder til the high-res ones were done.

I believe in one if their interviews a BW dev said DAI is finished and only bugfixing is left.

We only ever saw alpha footage though.
