Bartha had to stop herself from running up the stairs. She wanted to get out of this... this hole of despair. When she was about to step into the sunlight, she saw them: snarling, furry muzzles sniffing the air coming out of the cellar. Something in her snapped. "You won't get them!" She growled whilst unsheathing her daggers. She darted past Beldin and launched herself at the closest wolf.

She dived on top of the wolf, knocking it prone. The wolf wriggled underneath her, trying to break free from her grip. She lifted both her daggers and sank them into the wolfs flesh. Her hands got covered in its warm blood, but she was too angry to notice.

Damage: 1d6.minroll(1)+1 [5,1] = (6), 1d6.minroll(1)+1 [4,1] = (5)  (armor rating 3 leads to 3 + 2 =5 damage) link normal attack

A nearby wolf snarled at her. She glared at it: "Want some too, huh?" She withdrew her daggers from the wolf beneath her, and launched them at the other wolf in front of her did another attempt  to stab the beast in her fury. Although the angle is unlucky, she managed to hit, albeit barely. One dagger created a cut into the wolfs breast, the other failed to penetrate the skin.

Damage: 1d6.minroll(1)+1 [2,1] = (3), 1d6.minroll(1)+1 [5,1] = (6) = (3) (armor rating 3 leads to 0 + 3 = 3 damage)  link damage

Edited for links refusing to show up as links…

Edited again for not attacking the right wolf :)

Wolves Attack, Round 1

Summary: Four wolves attack the party. Bartha knocks one flat (it will change targets next round). Three bite Beldin as he climbs the stairs, doing a total of 13 points of damage.

The lead wolf snarled the moment the door was open, leaving Bartha, Beldin, and Laurelin barely enough time to identify their assailants before they sprang. Bartha's motion was lightning fast, and she managed to knock the leader to the ground and stab it repeatedly before it could spring.

The first wolf, still bloody from the earlier attack, was down. The second wolf's luck was better, or Beldin's luck was worse. It leapt, seizing his right bicep between its jaws and tearing at the muscle, doing a staggering amount of damage.

After a lifetime in possession of a startlingly loud voice, Beldin has learned to speak quietly lest he accidentally deafen someone, but even the most stoic warrior will bellow when he has a full-grown wolf dangling from his arm by its teeth.

"@#$%ING WOLVES!" he boomed in a voice that might have been audible in Vintiver (TN5 for anyone in the house to hear). "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!"

Perhaps the third wolf was distracted by the sound. It's bite found purchase above his right knee, but it failed to deliver more than a scratch.

The fourth wolf struck closer to his heart... or associated organs. Its leap took him square in the groin. Any lasting damage was probably slight, but it did take his breath away, if only momentarily.

(as Beldin)

Beldin attacks Wolf 2 for 10 points of damage.

The wolf finally let go of his arm and he staggered half a step backward, his arm too useless to fumble for a shield. There was nothing wrong with his left arm, however, and he was rather annoyed. He readied the axe and brought it down hard across the second wolf's flank, shaving off hair and a great deal of skin.

{The link will show the target as Wolf 1, but I changed that to avoid the possibility of hitting Bartha if he missed.}

Beldin's yell was unmistakable and startled the already tense Rael. Acting on instinct, she immediately rushed to the window that overlooked the front of the house where she saw a group of wolves snarling and working themselves into a frenzy. "Wolves are attacking!" she shouted for Tessa's benefit. Crouching on the ground, Rael took aim and prepared to shoot.

As Tessa topped the stairs and saw the boy’s body, a small change came over her. She narrowed her eyes and said quietly, “This *cannot* be allowed to go unavenged. We *have* to find out what’s doing this and kill it before it can do this to anymore farmsteads.”

As she was giving a cursory look around the room, Rael ran past her suddenly, to the window, shouting about more wolves outside.

Without stopping to think, she turned and bolted back down the stairs.

{Rael can attack one of Wolves 5 through 10 (5-8 are at -2 to hit) in Round 2. At a run, Tessa can cover 24 yards in 1 round, but climbing the stairs and negotiating obstacles halves that, so figure that she will be able to attack in Round 3.}

Etienne's eyes met Tempest's as he listened, trying to figure out where the growl came from and if they were in immediate danger. Maker, there were more? He tied the growl and Beldin's scream together just in time for Tessa to go barreling down the hallway. "Maker, its Beldin again!" Quiet was clearly out of the picture.

He grabbed the door in time to hold it open for Tessa and usher Tempest out after her. Rael didn't immediately follow. He felt it safe to assume that it wasn't because she was in harm's way, but she likely would be if left alone. The last thing they needed was for her to be alone and prone should wolves come to visit that house as well. He was clearly conflicted, but made a last second decision to dash for the staircase instead.

(Etienne will spend his entire first action finding Rael and figuring out that he can attack from a window as well. Initiative = 11)

To her horror Bartha noticed that three wolves had launched themselves at Beldin, who'd yelled out in pain and called for backup. The wolf underneath her was about to break free from her grasp. She felt herself close to a panic. 'Maker, Ancestors, the Stone... anyone! Please help!' In a split second she decided to first finish of this wolf before helping Beldin.

The squirming wolf made it hard for her to get a good aim. Her haste to finish it off made her lose her accuracy. Although both daggers did hit her target, she only managed to do superficial damage to the wolfs chest.

Bartha hits the wolf for a whopping 3 damage...

Fuldor's Farm Wolf Attack 2, Round 2

Summary:
Wolf 1(severely damaged, 3hp) hits Bartha for 3 points to the head/neck
Wolf 2(damaged, 10hp) misses Beldin
Wolf 3(lightly singed, 20hp) hits Beldin for 4 points to the hip/groin
Wolf 4(moderately singed, 12hp) is defending itself and unable to attack
Wolf 4(singed) hits Laurelin for 5 points (initial damage) to the right wrist, knocks her into the cellar, and bites her again for 7 points to the left upper arm

{Mahumia may post the attack against Bartha at will.}

Perhaps the second wolf was distracted by Laurelin's lightning. Perhaps it was too busy gloating over its last attack to aim properly. Perhaps it was overcome by the smell of Beldin's armpit. Whatever happened, it missed, and Beldin was thankful. And, he got to enjoy watching it launch itself vertically trying to nip at the same target again, like a dog jumping up for a treat.

"No more for you, mongrel!" Beldin barked, jerking his arm away. He should have been paying more attention to the third wolf, who made an open-jawed lunge at his groin. It missed the tender parts, luckily, but it sank its teeth deep into the tendons joining thigh to pelvic bone.

"By the Maker!" he groaned, clutching himself. "What is it with you and my nads?"

{Lorien may post the attack against Laurelin at will. Ordinarily, intelligent enemies would not be able to trace ranged attacks back to the source, but lightning creates a visible arc, so Wolf4 knows who to blame.}

{Wolf 4 is still dazed from Laurelin's light show and is unable to do more than defend itself.}

Die rolls:
Spoiler

{Wolf 5 is still unable to enter melee and is still a valid target from the windows. It has partial cover, so -2 to hit from the windows. Wolf 4's attack pushes Laurelin all the way into the cellar, opening a path for Wolf 5 to enter the fray. Wolf 5 is now out of range of the windows and will attack either Bartha or Beldin next round. Beldin may ready his shield as a Minor Action for Round 3.}

Laurelin successfully casts shock at wolf four for 5 points of damage.

{Laurelin's attack generated 6 Stunt Points (spells get stunt points, too).

From the table on page 50 (which is probably unavailable while you're posting from your phone), you may choose

1-3SP Puissant Casting: Increase the spellpower of your spell by 1 for every point spent

2SP Skillful Casting: Reduce the mana cost of your spell by 1

2SP Mighty Spell: Add 1d6 damage

3SP Mana Shield: Increase your Defense by 2

4SP Fast Casting: After casting this spell, you may immediately cast another as a Minor Action

4SP Imposing Spell: The effect of your spell is much more dramatic than usual. Your opponent must make a successful Willpower(Courage) Test. Failure means that your opponent is incapable of anything but movement or defense.

You may choose anything you like. Should you select something that would negate Wolf 4's attack, I will allow a do-over. We are all learning a new system.}

RESOLVED

Bartha may post at will.

Tessa is next.

Too late Bartha realised that she was in a vulnerable position, when she failed to end the wolfs life. Suddenly she lost her grip, as it had collected its strength and launched itself at her. She screamed as strong jaws enclosed around her neck, right below her jawbone.

(as Beldin)

Summary: Beldin strikes Wolf 2 for 5 points.

The pain from his groin injury was staggering. Under other circumstances, he would have been curled up in a corner, nursing his wounds and his pride, but this was no tavern brawl and survival instinct took over. His right arm still throbbed from torn muscle and rent flesh, but it would bear the weight of a shield. He unslung it hastily and thrust his injured arm through the straps before bringing his undamaged left arm to bear on his attackers. Personal vendettas aside, Wolf 2 was still the bigger threat.

He brought his battleaxe around in a side-arm swipe a the creature's flank, but the strain of his shield threw him off balance. His strike was true, but lighter than usual. Then again, "light" for a battleaxe is a relative term.

{Beldin readies his shield as a Minor Action. His Defense is now 15.}

Die rolls:

Spoiler

(as GM)

{Tessa should have gone before Beldin, but she is moving toward the wolves and will be in melee range in Round 3.

Rael is in position at the upstairs window with a ready ranged weapon and attacks next.}

(Crap! Was it my turn this whole time? Sorry for holding everyone up... If I stall us again, I will gratefully accept a smack upside the head via a PM)

Rael does 7 damage to Wolf 9

Beldin, Bartha and Laurelin had said something about searching the root cellar, but she could not see any of the three from where she was. That meant that whichever wolves were attacking them were also unobservable. How many blasted wolves were at this farm anyway? Perhaps if she injured one or two, the rest would get the message and flee.

Choosing the easiest-looking target, Rael shot her crossbow at the large wolf, that was growling at something outside of Rael's line of sight. The bolt hit true, impaling the wolf in the side. The animal staggered slightly, with a loud bark of pain and confusion.

(Don't even worry about it!)

Maker's breath, was finding Rael a little harder than he had imagined. There was concern that he'd barge into the wrong room and find his own personal horde of hungry wolves. Or, perhaps worst yet, more victims. His steps were hastened, but stopped short of running directly into the mouth of something that would harm him. Each door was opened with the crook of his beaded staff, ready to attack.

As it so often worked out, she was the very last place he looked. The door was pushed open and he stood tentatively at the ready until he realized it was her standing there, not a loup-garou. "Oh finally, there you are," he said with a relieved sigh.

The next window over from her looked to be a fine vantage point for him, so it was thrown open as he picked his target.

The wolves were shocked,literally and figuratively.
The vibrant arcs of electricity singed the whole group.
Still,Laurelin flinched,when she head them yelping in pain.She didn't relish in killing or hurting animals,but the pack left her no choice by attacking and mauling herself and her travelling companions.
She realised that her spell,was more powerful than usual,an observation that once again, reminded her of the keeper's lessons about magic.Like how a spell would react to the caster's emotions.
However the fight wasn't over,she felt slightly tired but she still had more than enough energy,to cast another spell.
3d6+3 → [1,6,5,3] = (15)(success)
http://invisiblecast...r/view/4575774/
Therefore,she aimed her staff at the first wolf,that was now attacking Bartha and casted shock once more.
But not without affecting the rest of the pack,with her spell.
1d6+3 → [3,3] = (6)
http://invisiblecast...r/view/4575836/
Laurelin successfully casts shock at wolf 1 for 6 pts damage
Wolf 2,3 and 4 sustain 6 pts damage of damage each.

(I hope,I got it right this time!)

It took Tempest a moment to figure out what she needed to do, given her emotional state and her confusion about what was happening. When she had the situation worked out in her head, she knew her role. To heal her comrades, if needed, and to fight by their side if not.

Her soft boots skidded a bit on the blood-slick patches on the floor as she hurried toward the door. Her staff was already in her hand.

Beldin was more seriously wounded this time, she saw. She prepared to cast a healing spell to keep him on his feet once she got into range, assuming she was able to get close enough.

{Wolf 1 and Wolf 2 are dead. Wolves 5- 8 move in to "greet" new faces and wolves 9 and 10 move in to fill the spots vacated by wolves 1 and 2. Sorry, ranged attackers, you now have no targets. Wolves are not bright enough to calculate trajectories, no matter how amusing it would be to have them attack thin air.

Fuldor's Farm Wolf Attack 2, Round 3

Attack order and health/status effects

Bartha (28/31)
Wolf 1, deceased
Wolf 2, deceased
Wolf 3, damaged (14/25), last seen attacking Beldin
Wolf 4, severely damaged (6/35), last seen attacking Beldin
Wolf 5, undamaged (25/25)
Wolf 6, undamaged (25/25)
Wolf 7, undamaged (25/25)
Wolf 8, undamaged (25/25)
Wolf 9, undamaged (18/25), may attack in Round 4
Wolf 10, undamaged (25/25), may attack in Round 4
Tessa (36/36)
Beldin (19/36)
Rael (32/32)
Etienne (25/25)
Laurelin (26/26)
Tempest (27/27)

As Tempest and Tessa round the corner of the farmhouse, wolves 5-8 are in visual range and will attack one or the other of them. Target selection depends solely on perceived threat. Tessa's body language might conceivably be more aggressive, so the wolves may show a slight preference to attack her.

1d6 → [5] = (5) Tessa
1d6 → [3] = (3) Tessa
1d6 → [2] = (2) Tempest
1d6 → [6] = (6) Tessa
Target Selection: Tessa's body language is likely to be more aggressive, which the wolves will sense. 1-2=Tempest 3-6=Tessa

Wolves 9 and 10 will move into positions vacated by Wolves 1 and 2. They are moving this round, and will evaluate attack strategies at the conclusion of Round 3.

Sorry, window attackers, all wolves are now out of range. Should you opt to pursue combat out of doors, you can either jump, forcing the wolves to re-evaluate their attack plans, or go downstairs and out the front door, which will prevent you from attacking until Round 5.

My spreadsheet is also wrong (It has your damage as 10, not 7, probably because one or the other of us didn't correct for armor rating), but at least the spreadsheet shows damage. I typed that stupid late after 3 glasses of wine, so I suppose I should not be surprised that it contains an error. Apologies.}

For a second time Bartha felt the air singe with electricity: a flash, yelping wolves. It all happened in a split second. Surprised she noticed that the wolf which had just been hanging on her neck was dead. She swallowed as she stood up, and wrinkled her nose to the taste of blood in her mouth. There was no time to wonder what had happened: there were plenty of wolves left. She noticed that several wolves were attacking Beldin at once.

With her daggers ready, she jumped onto the nearest wolf (wolf 4). The wolf was badly injured, so she decided to try and end it. Both daggers sank into the wolfs neck, and with a swift movement of her wrists she cut its throat. She released one hand, and reached out for the tail of wolf 3, trying to grab and yank it. "Come here, you son of a shewolf... "

Bartha does 9 damage to wolf 4

Bartha attemps to threaten wolf 3 (I guess that saying bad things about his mom is not really going to insult a wolf... so I chose a more physical approach)

Rolls:

Attacking:

3d6 + 5 → [4,4,5,5] = (18)

3d6 + 5 → [6,4,3,5] = (18)

3d6 + 5=18, 3d6 + 5=18

Doubles for dagger 1, so she creates 4 SP. She chooses knock prone (2) mighty blow (2) and threaten (2)

Damage:

1d6.minroll(1)+1 → [5,1] = (6)

1d6.minroll(1)+1 → [4,1] = (5)

1d6.minroll(1)+1=6, 1d6.minroll(1)+1=5

Mighty blow damage:

1d6.minroll(1)[4] = (4)

Test for threaten:

Opposed test of Bartha's strength (intimidate) vs wolf 3's willpower (self-discipline)

3D6 + 2 vs ???

3d6 + 2 → [3,4,3,2] = (12)

3d6 + 2=12

Wolf Attack, Round 3

Summary:
Wolf 1: dead
Wolf 2: dead
Wolf 3: Attacks Bartha (left thigh) and misses
Wolf 4: dead
Wolf 5: Attacks Tempest, hits, and does 2 damage (head/neck)
Wolf 6: Attacks Beldin, hits, and does 3 damage (hip/groin/buttock)
Wolf 7: Trajectory suggests that Tempest is the target, but cannot attack until Round 4
Wolf 8: Attacks Bartha, knocks her prone, and delivers mighty blow (bite) - 6 damage (head/neck)
Wolf 9: moving
Wolf 10: moving

Wolf 4's death created space for more attackers closer to home, so those wolves who are not already engaged in melee re-evaluate their targets.

As Tempest and Tessa round the corner of the farmhouse, all of the wolves are now in motion. Wolf 3 is attacking Bartha, but Wolf 5 lopes toward Tessa, jaws wide (Tessa may still use her Charge action for +1 to attack if she desires). Wolf 6 climbs over the remains of Wolf 2 to attack Beldin, but Wolf 8 thinks Bartha would make a good meal. Wolf 7 is running toward Tempest, but she is too far away to attack this round, so the wolf will spend its action in movement.

Wolves 9 and 10 are moving this round, and will evaluate attack strategies at the conclusion of Round 3.

Die rolls:

{I'll post Beldin's wolf attack with his attack.}

As Tempest was gauging the distance toward her injured comrades, a wolf sprang at her. In her perception the creature moved almost impossibly fast, and she barely had time to cry out before its teeth ripped a bleeding wound in her neck. The injury wasn't deep; there was a lot of blood but not much tissue damage. It had missed her artery, thank the Maker. It throbbed painfully, though.

Tempest knew she wasn't going to die from the neck wound. The thought suddenly struck her, though, that if the tide of the battle turned against them, she might not make it home alive. If the Maker required it of her, Tempest was willing to give her life trying to save strangers. It was what was right. She wished belatedly, though, that she had instructed someone to let her family know what happened if she was killed. How terrible for her children if their mother simply... disappeared.

No one in the group knew how to find her circle, though, even if they thought to send word. If she survived, she would need to remedy that.

All this flashed through her mind in a split second, before she so much as had time to cast a spell attack of her own. Not so fast, however, that she didn't spot what was approaching from a short distance away.

"Four more wolves incoming!" she shouted to her comrades.

(Successful Spot check on the wolves per Berelinde, minor action to speak)
