Here's how I think it breaks down.

Blackwall: Champion because a man willing to martry himself in defense of others sounds like a champion to me.

Cassandra: Templar because she was refered to as a templar in DA2.

Cole:  Assassin because he is great at stealthy kills in the book.

Dorian: Necromancer because it was mentioned that he could raise the dead.

Iron Bull: Ravenger because he seems to be more of a DPS warrior than a tank warrior.

Sera: Tempest because she was mentioned as being, "As passionate and reactionary as the groundswell she brings."

Solas: Rift Mage because he is said to be an expert on The Fade.

Verrick: Artificer because of Bianca.

Vivianne:  Knight Enchanter because she is of Orlesian nobility.

Cassandra isn't a Templar, she's a Seeker. But that's closer to Templar than what Blackwall is and what Iron Bull is.

I think you've gotten it spot on, I've no points to make beside that.

I thought Seekers were picked out from the Templar order.

Most Seekers are picked from the Templars, but some aren't Templars

I would be kinda annoyed if they gave Cassandra or Blackwall the Templar Spec

I can't find any evidence anywhere that she was a Templar before she was a Seeker.

I don't know about Cassandra being a Templar... She could very well be a Champion, considering she comes from a family of dragon slayers. She also 'seeks justice above all else' according to her profile, which again would fit more a Champion than a Templar.

Sooo, you want iron Bull to be the Templar?

Why couldn't Cullen be the Templar?

We got specializations from sources other that companions in Origins.

That'd thrust Blackwall into that role then and he doesn't seem to have any history as a Templar, far less than Cassandra theoretically could.

Cass is the closest match to the Templar class that we have.

There's Cullen

Though she could get her own Specialization :P

I don't think we'll be fighting alongside Cullen that often at all? His role is mostly as an advisor, while Cass will be coming everywhere with us, if we want her to.

You learned the Duelist specialization from one lesson with Isabela in Origins.

I... Um... H-how does that relate to what I said?

This isn't about the PC learning anything, it's about how we'll be very unlikely to play alongside Cullen all that often. Even if he's a Templar, his role is as an advisor, not as a combatant that's right at your side.

Just because he's not a companion doesn't mean he won't have the Specialization

Come to think of it, is it confirmed that the companions actually have a specialization? Maybe the player will get to pick it for them? Perhaps the specializations will have to be learned from various minor NPCs. Dagna was mentioned to be an Artificer.

You could make a case for Iron Bull being a Templar.  Tallis was kind of a Templar Rogue, and she was Ben-Hassrath too.  Though I don't really expect it.

Or the ability to teach your Inquisitor that Specialization. (: To clarify what I meant and how I felt it related to what you were saying. Cass could have her own specialization as a dragon-hunter in the same way Fenris had his own thing going on.

An E3 demo showed Iron Bull with the Reaver Spec, so they would have one but I hope we don't get to pick it for them

Though it could be a mix of DAO and DA2

I figure her being the Templar spec would make most sense. Growing up she despised mages so it would make sense if her fighting style would allow her to combat them.

It's possible, I think at least some of the companions will have one of the nine specs. I think they are bringing unlocks back too but it doesn't necessarily have to be companions that teach us the specs. Cullen is a Templar, Dagna is an Artificer...

Iron Bull was a Reaver in the demo, Dorian is most likely a necromancer and Solas sounds like a rift mage. I also think Viv is in fact a Knight Enchanter based in her skill trees and the fact that it's a circle thing.

I have never seen anything to show that Cassandra was ever a Templar.  Sure she is a Seeker but I was under the impression that she joined them straight away instead of joining the Templars first and could've just been trained as just a warrior instead of a Templar.

Agree on all but Cole and Sera. I think Sera is the Assassin and Cole the Tempest.

Reasons being:

1. Assassin is neither bound to daggers nor to stealth.

2. If you look at the symbol of Tempest it looks to have fade influence, compare it to that of the symbol of the Rift Mage and they appear similar.

3. Sera's description says something akin to she likes to kill people.

I think you're spot on. Its called "Reaver" though and I think Vivienne is a Knight Enchanter not because of Orlesian nationality, but because she was going to be First Enchanter of the Circle and ofcourse they already corrected you by saying Cassandra is a Seeker, not a Templar, but I think you're right about her specialization being a Templar.
