Actually if my protagonist knows that there is a civil war going on he/she would be nowhere near the border. I guess that is why I have only tested the game on a friend's computer. The game would end before it begins based on my head canon.

So, your character wouldn't try to get out before the fighting got him/her killed?

Or maybe s/he's be terrified for his/her relatives in Skyrim, who s/he hasn't heard from in months and just has to check on them.

Maybe s/he's a merchant thinking to capitalize on the war.

Or a mercenary.

Or my favorite, has amnesia. "Got knocked on the head, why am I on this wagon?", "I got so wasted last night, what did I do?".

It might. If it does, complain then. The game should give you all of the information you need to create a character before you actually create that character. This is one of the major benefits of documentation.

One can never have too much documentation. It can simply be optionally available on the website for the game instead of the shipped version if developers are worried about inundating players with information.

No argument there. Skyrim is probably the weakest TES game in terms of ruleset.

They just kept moving in the wrong direction (real time, rather than turn based). Their changes make sense in light of their goal; they just have the wrong goal.

You mean go to the border where they may be laying in wait to catch those trying to flee? Or entering the land as a spy?

I would send someone else to check on my family. If he/she did not return that would tell me all I need to know.

A merchant? That just screams attack me and take my goods! I would conduct business from a safe location and let them come to me.

Mercenary? No, I prefer to work both sides against each other to make the greatest profit. So I would be a supplier of mercenaries to either side.

My characters are all teetotalers. A good warrior knows not to drink to much and make oneself a target.

Bethesda has the right goal. That is to sell as many copies of the game as possible. In that regards Skyrim is a success. Bethesda is giving its audience what it wants.

I agree with the need for documentation of a game. If a detailed manual cannot be provided in the physical copy give me the information in a pdf which can be downloaded or ignored.

Or you could play a character who doesn't know that, and thus now finds himself trapped in Skyrim against his will.

Now that may work!

Well, their gameplay is still absolutely atrocious for an action game. It is the main reason why I cannot enjoy Skyrim as a game rather than as an RPG - it is just painful to play through.

That was the justification I settled for on a non-Nord. I just would rather play a Nord because of the setting (and I think it is fitting for the dragonborn to be a Nord).

Being Moddable is a Feature some new games put out front, ala Jagged Alliance Flashback, and others.

Without the Possibility for a MEHEM, moment (Google ™ it, you'll be glad you did), incase this goes the way of ea/bioware trilogys of late, I will be VERY hesitant to get, let alone, pre-order an unfixable game.

Not to mention if your character hadn't happened to be in the same place as Ulfric Stormcloak when he gets caught, you probably would be deported (if not a Nord), thrown in the Helgen jail with that horse thief overnight or paying a fine of 40 septims. They executed everyone in the vicinity just to be sure I guess.

I know MEHEM, I think it's stupid.
