The multiplayer expansions were all free though?

You people are all just begging to to be taken advantage of with microtransactions.

I still to this day maintain that M3 MP was popular because it was a horde mode and that ME3 was already derivative of GoW, along with the fact that ME3 itself lacked replay value because had no divergent content.

I disagree.  I liked the multiplayer because it was co-op and fun.  I replayed ME3 MANY times, it's like going back to a favorite book.  I don't think a game has to be hugely divergent to be god roleplay- interesting story is interesting story, good characters are good characters, and I can come up with many reasons why my character makes similar decisions for different reasons.  That's me though.

I don't see how ME's micro transactions "took advantage" of anyone, all of the content could be unlocked without using them.

If you want to see micro transactions "taking advantage" of people, look no further than the various pay2win games out there on the market; games like Heroes of Dragon Age; where it is physically impossible to advance in the game unless real world money is spent, or the game is blatantly unbalanced in favor of the paying players.

Glad to see you're still the judge of what other people find appealing in games :)

You are right, I was taken advantage of with the 720 hours I spent in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and only spent $1 on the microtransactions because I wanted to use up my remaining BioWare Points.

Not every game needs to have a multiplayer mode. What happened to having a solid single-player RPG that can stand on its own? Skyrim didn't have MP for example and did just fine. Better than fine if you look at the sales there.

I don't know if any game needs to have MP, just like I don't think any RPG needs companion interaction and LIs. Its all about what the fans would like to have, and judging by the various Skyrim MP mods, there is more than a few that would like Skyrim to have MP.

Not enough money in it, I guess...

Just saw this in another thread. Kudos to user pinok0 for spotting this:

This link below shows you can play 1-4 playable.

If true, what's this suppose to mean? Online or Offline? Or just simple mistake?

My MP "spider senses" are tingling

It could be nothing, but there are a lot 'coincidences' or non answers surrounding MP in DA:I (IMO).

"My issue is with the publishers that insist upon some sort of MP experience with every game, no matter how awkward or shoehorned the end result would have to be."

Perhaps one of the most misquoted of all comments by EA. They said they want some kind of online component not multiplayer. If it doesn't fit there will be no multiplayer.

And Dragon Age Keep serves that purpose. Thus no need for anything more.

Maybe not The Keep, but with Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 the flash and Facebook games met the criteria for social interaction and they have introduced Heroes of Dragon Age which easily can be considered in the same vein as those two games.

Each to their own I guess. I didn't personally think "It would be nice if this game had a multiplayer mode" when playing through Skyrim.

Taken advantage of?  When did they get a hold of my master card #?????????????????

As for why ME3 mp was popular?    It was popular because people enjoyed playing it, it's that simple.

In the hope of moving the conversation on from:

  1. I love it and have played1,000 hours before
  2. I hate it and would cancel my preorder if it was on the same disk

And bearing in mind, this is all friendly speculation... for something that remains an imagined radioactive dragon.

What sort of multiplayer modes would actually work?

Then if it's not happening, it would be useful feedback for another time.

- - - - -

I could see a horde mode style that has a 4 person party defending a single player location from waves of varying enemies.

Unlike ME3 extraction you need to hold and defeat all the enemies.

Unlike ME3 it could be a larger map because you are defending a town/fort/camp but clearly you would have to defend it not run away.

There would be a few facial presets, hopefully everyone doesn't have to wear helmets.

You could have wave missions: escort a noble, fetch supplies, target enemies

The ME3 multiplayer was forced, really. People had to play it in order to get their EMS (I think it was called EMS?) high enough to get a "perfect ending". After the forced multiplayer was a huge success, they fixed it so it wasn't forced anymore.

I understand your point, though for me "It would be nice if this game had a multiplayer mode" is exactly what crosses my mind, when I am playing a great single player game.

I imagine that it has to do with my two brothers being into gaming as much as me growing up. Playing a game together is so much better then taking turns; especially since my older brother would beat me up and just take my turn anyway  :D

I can see a real signature feature being customisability.

ME3 only allowed you to change armour colour and some lights, but the DA:I singleplayer is already full of armour models, different lighting, weapon crafting, etc. That could even integrated into the update system.

Not that I actually know what that refers to...

Could be 1-4 editions, 1-4 retailers, 1-4 endings, 1-4 dragons... who knows...

EDIT: Online translators are a wonderful thing and thanks also to ElitePinecone and Silith for pointing it out.

I'm not expecting clones of the single player party. I would expect more straight-forward human, elf, qunari, dwarf / warrior, rogue, mage, with limited armour and weapon sets and spells for balance. In the guise of the Inquisitions front line troops.

プレイ人数 is "number of players" and in the bottom line, 人 is the counting word for people :)

I really like your ideas, but...

I really liked Me3's MP. I wasn't around when it was mandatory for the "best" ending and I never played much but I felt it was integrated really nicely and it was really fun. I really liked how the combat felt in ME3 anyway, and blasting away at more Reaper/Geth/whatever was so much fun.

And that's where I don't see your (or any other horde mode) idea working. MP combat would have to be really different in MP and SP. I mean, Bioware seems to be really proud to have brought back tactical view, but an MP would play like any ordinary action RPG out there. From what I have seen, it doesn't seem to be suited to be like that, the action combat didn't look especially "satisfying" to me, if that makes sense. I don't see me fireballing demons in a horde mode action MP...

Then again, maybe that's why they're still not announcing MP...

As for other ideas, I don't have any. Maybe it's going to be a RTS where you have to manage soldiers and your keep and such, heh.

SofaJockey, it says "1-4 players" FWIW.
