I really did think they'd announce MP at Gamescom.

1998-2004ish. By far.

If we're using 6 year spans, we'll check back again in 2020-ish, as the cRPG renaissance has only recently gotten underway.

Would it be so terrible if DA:I had no multiplayer component?

Nope - and Vortex13 said it much better than I was about to try to.

I'm expecting DAI SP to be awesome.

Hey, this is an MP speculation thread in Scuttlebutt about an undiscussed feature  :D

that 'might' be hiding awaiting some marketing.

And picking up on ElitePinecone's point I do request we all keep it a calm and civil discussion as we are doing please.

There will be more than enough to discuss when it is clearly there or not there and I'd like us to avoid lock until at least that point

That shouldn't preclude you from acknowledging that there might be legitimate reasons though, rather than assuming cynical motives for waiting this long to announce something, or assuming that the team are getting it wrong somehow.

If multiplayer is real and ends up tanking because they waited too long, I'd be happy to concede you had a point. But until then, can't we tone down the pessimism a bit?

Problem though, is while I can't think of a legitimate reason to put off the announcement, I can think of cynical motives.  So, there's that.

And while I'd like to be more optimistic, I'm still in "once bitten, twice shy mode"  Heck I predicted way back in 2012 that I'd be putting this game under a microsscope  before release.  I know me that well :D

Nope not at all.  The SP game looks terrific and I'm sure I'll get full value from it and multiple replays.

The thing that mp does or at least has done for me is to build a bridge to the next BioWare game.  In most cases people are done with ME3 and will have to reconnect with that franchise a year or two more down the road.  Because I like ME3 mp, even though it is simplistic hoard mode I am still in touch more or less with ME.  If DAI has mutltiplay then I would imagine that I will for the most part switch to it after playing the sp game a number of times and that will keep me in the BioWare loop until the next game is out.

Iakus, I think we are all getting to know you that well, and I say that kindly

If I may try to relate to your point, I think you are really looking forward to a great SP experience and

you'd just hate a MP feature to spoil that for you because it happened before. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

On this forum (trolls aside) people get very passionate about these subjects because they enjoy what BioWare produce when at the top of their game and want it to be great. I felt a flutter of concern this week that my Champion would be a default CC.

The proof is going to be in the pudding I guess (assuming pudding is on the menu, the chef has been a bit vague)...

Yes.

Why? Since when is MP the glue that holds all games together? Will DA:I utterly fail without it? Hardly not. Dragon Age is a SP and its best as a SP game.

I want to see Bioware at the top of their game once more.

Do you like DA:I, from what they've shown so far? Is the SP as it currently stands enough to convince you to buy the game?

If the answer to those questions is yes, then multiplayer should do nothing to change that opinion. It's additional content on top of the singleplayer experience. You're getting a full game that you find impressive, plus a bunch of other content that you may or may not eventually use.

Multiplayer is irrelevant if you're already planning on buying the game for the singleplayer. The only exception is if it "intrudes" on the SP, but that's a separate conversation for when they actually announce it.

The thing is, if they don't announce it now, when will they? I don't know if there are any other industry events taking place between Gamescom and launch (don't think so), so it looks like it's either now or never. It's weird that it's taking them so long to just say a simple Yes or No.

You are assuming that any multiplayer that may end up in the game is in fact "additional content" and is in no way tied to the SP experience.

Since we don't even know if it exists, how can you make that assumption?

Because that's how it was in their previous fantasy rpgs?

Ten years ago, sure.

Now look at two years ago ;)

It occurs to me that this reminds me of the Aftermath of ME3. People keep saying "Any minute now..they will announce alternate Ending DLC. You watch." and other people saying it won't happen....Weird looking at it from the other side.

A mutliplayer which only accidentally had a minor impact on one variation of the Mass Effect ending and which they both apologized and released a free DLC at their own expense to address? Odds are they wouldn't want to repeat that.

It's not a major industry event, more like a public convention. But considering we don't know if BW will even be there this year, I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think there's much insistence that there will be a MP of the type we all had considered most likely(horde mode or co-op) at this point. It is odd that they're unwilling to deny multiplayer outright, which gives some credence to something that technically is multiplayer but isn't really what we were talking about here.

Hmm, well there is still that big announcement for towards the end of this month that has been mentioned in several articles, maybe that is when the MP will be revealed?

I know they're supposed to announce something this month.

So?  Just because tehy don't want a repeat doesn't mean there won't be one.  It's still an assumption.

A reasonable assumption.

We don't have any proof that the game won't be buggy to the point of unplayability either. But given that Bioware has taken plenty of time with this, it would make sense that it shouldn't be terribly buggy.

Given the backlash from the last event, and how they're actively trying to avoid such a circumstance, it would seem unlikely that they'd screw it up.

It wasn't accidental, at least based on Chris Priestly saying they wanted to reward players who participated in the full ME3 experience, or something to that effect.
