Was that the case in ME3? I'm honestly asking - I've never played the MP.

The progression model of ME3's multiplayer was a giant back of dicks. With the Random chance you could end up have an N7 (Ultra-Rare) weapon you never wanted, or a Tier X Weapon you can't won't equip.

I don't mind the micro transactions necessarily, but the packs were way too much like CCG booster packs. There really needed to be a better way to get the things you needed, even if it came at a markup. Be it from buying the item directly with credits, or at least narrowing the kits to something like Class Kits or Brand kits.

I don't care what the developers say.

Well its not only Bioware devs that say it.

No, it does not take away resources from other aspects of the game.

We don't know if it takes resources from the single player. You can't say that for sure.

Every class could equip every weapon in me3 mp. Did you play it all?

At the same time it can't be said that we know for sure it does.

There are many different ways it can be looked at and maybe EA could have said "Add multiplayer or else" and if BioWare refused it wouldn't have improved the single player aspect of the game for there wouldn't be a single player experience at all.

  Maybe he/she is talking about the weight of a weapon being too heavy to equip on a caster or when using powers? Otherwise, I'm baffled.

Well the alternative is every dev who has spoken about it is lying.

Honestly?

The single player looks great. If there's multiplayer, I'll enjoy that as well.

I would trust developers to know what they're talking about more than random fans on an internet forum, yes.

Unless people start believing that there's a vast conspiracy of devs from different companies combining to lie constantly about multiplayer not taking money from an existing SP budget.

Pretty much what Maria said. Folks can ****** and complain and make crap up all they want. But at the end of the day DAI looks to be larger and more dense then even DAO. The main crit path is the size of doing 'all the crap' in DAO. I mean c'mon, they already crammed this thing full of RPG gravy yall.

I was just thinking, they've been doing playtesting for months and months at locations all over Canada. Part of the survey for testers was questions about experience with ME3 MP.

It'd be kinda hilarious if dozens or hundreds of people have been playing multiplayer for months now at closed testing sessions, but nobody is able to talk about it because of NDAs.

There are links in the OP about development budgeting, and here:

May 2014 - http://askagamedev.t...y-away-from-the Does MP steal SP resources? (part 1)

May 2014 - http://askagamedev.t...takes-away-from (part 2)

I'm hoping we don't get too sidetracked about the micro transactions debate but I note from various blogs that between 1-10% of players
account for most of the micro transaction spend, so the vast majority get free fun.

Sure, the ultra rare gear drops were about 2-3 times more stingy that I think was reasonable but it was what it was.

If you doubt ME3 MP, check out that forum: http://forum.bioware...ombat-strategy/

It's a vibrant and active community 2 1/2 years on.

Actually I'm going to ask that forum for their insight

recognising of course that they may be biased (not meant in a critical way)

I typed the wrong word on accident, I played quite a bit of ME3 MP... Enough to be one of its staunchest defenders, but one typo and the defense brigade has me on the ropes.

My hypersensitive internet ego considers it a personal attack, and I demand three chickens as recompense. A bushel of turnips is also acceptable.

From E3 in June, bold emphasis is mine:

"Electronic Arts and renowned developer BioWare unveiled a new trailer for “Dragon Age™: Inquisition” and announced that the first single-player add-on content will arrive first, exclusively on Xbox."

I remember playing FFXII for the first time and trying to get some of those drops/loot/etc. I think that game could've done with some microtransactions. Thing was a grindfest nightmare.

I wonder if we'll hear anything at PAX...if not, I suspect we can put this topic to rest, what with having the 3-strike rule. ;)

If it's not Pax then then I think the case for it is in serious trouble.

If we go past September 18th (2 months to go) then I think the case is pretty much dead.

ME 3 MP was fun.

After each game, you got X amount of credits that you could spend on random packs. The more costly the packs, the better chance to unlock or upgrade rare or ultra-rare items.

Here's the thing though: the common unlocks were still fun. A basic human soldier did solid damage, had good health/shield, and was highly mobile. The common unlock weapons were solid. As someone who played until she unlocked everything and upgraded most everything, I've still had people do more damage and get more kills with the basic kits.

I think it struck a good balance between making all the classes/weapon levels feel useful, and insentivizing buying new/better stuff.

I agree, the level of balance between lower and higher tier characters was more a matter of having new ways to play (and by extension) and enjoy the game rather than completely outclassing everything below it. I loved how ME 3's MP wasn't a pay-to-win system; people who spent real world money didn't get some extra advantage over non paying customers, both in terms of unlock percentages, or in gaining access to exclusive unlocks.

In fact the only thing I can really think that would have made the MP better was more variety in the character classes. BioWare started to incorporate separate gameplay mechanics in the later DLCs (specifically the Volus 'Medic' and Geth Juggernaut 'Tank' class) and I would love to see that idea expanded upon in DA:I's MP and ME:Next's MP. Giving players the option to play as creatures/aliens that approach combat in new and novel ways is so much better then a simple re-skin with one or two new powers (IMO).

I kinda don't care if Mp is  in the game if it has ZERO effect on sp. If it does, EA can **** off. If not meh. I won't play it, but people would obviously enjoy it so fine, go ahead. I liked ME3 MP. What i absolutely bloody hated was the microtransactions. The stupidly randomised pack were obnoxious, and I kept getting weps I didn't want. I mean seriously, play Path of Exile. That game is FREE and the only microtransactions are for cosmetics. That made me want to give money to them, rather then feel pressured to.
