I think this is reasonably possible.

The Deluxe and Inquisitor's Editions include "bonus digital content to be announced soon", which was the same thing that was on ME3 preorder pages before they announced the multiplayer.

DA:I merchendise and the strategy guide also come with "bonus digital content", which, again, is what happened with ME3's accessories. Everything from mousepads to action figures had a unique code to unlock a random weapon/item pack in the MP. I expect something similar will happen in DA:I, *if* they do end up having a multiplayer component.

The devs have also brushed off any questions about multiplayer by saying they have nothing to say about it at this time, so at this point I'd keep an eye out and see what happens.

im in same boat thinking the same thing is gonna happen

also  this game looks planned me3 multiplayer was thrown together at last min i think the did a real good job with having no plans being told:"we need a online mode" buy EA.

so i guess we will wait and see.

I like this human.

Can you not see that they are a muppet? On topic, I am undecided on this issue. On the one hand I liked the multiplayer in Mass Effect, but on the other I like to play Dragon Age slower then I played Mass Effect.

That's a bit unnecessary.

At absolute worst, Beerfish is benignly trolling.

They're using the oft repeated blurb of anti-MP folks that haven't paid any attention to the frequently stated 'MP gets additional resources and does not take away resources from the SP campaign', and just reversing the positions.

I, for one, don't want MP at all, but if it HAS to be there, I'm with Iakus.  Let it be optional to install.

The metaphor seems hyperbolic. Considering there was no official word about any multiplayer in Dragon Age Inquisition, this is hardly a dragon in the room, it's the imagination of a dragon in a room.

Whilst a multiplayer is a possibility, it's not something that was even remotely hinted at by the dev team. Any discussion on that has been purely speculation by the fandom on the basis of an misrepresentation on EA online guidelines for the developers.

All that said, if there's going to be a multiplayer, I'll reserve judgement until I played it. I distinctly remember a lot of people were displeased by the announcement of a Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, yet the final product ended up being not only fun for me personally, but to a lot of previous vocal opponents to the very idea of having a multiplayer in a ME game.

they already do the same with promised "blood magic/being a blood mage", and "we are not related to the Chantry"...now we officially do not have a option to do blood magic and we forced to have members from Chantry as our companions and advisors

about multiplayer i hope that Bioware never spend their time and money for this sh*t and concentrate only on singleplayer

Wow! When did they promise that you could be a blood mage? As for the Inquisition being unrelated to the chantry, the devs have said the relationship to the chantry is up to you, why do you think different?

Ive wanted and even spoke on how it could work in DA to great extent and discussed its modes multiple times and thought it would change MP in a big way innovatively, but whenever you talk MP in a biothread, people start crying and complaining that they dont want contact with another being... We gather here to talk abou the game, but playing with others that enjoy DA as much as us? Taboo... lol. One day Bioheads will crawl out of the rocks they're under and splash in the ocean with us, but it might take 30 years. As a fellow game designer, I know it can work well, but who knows if bioware is brave enough to try it and not cave to whiners about how it will destroy SP and resources blah blah...

tbh this has already been discussed to death in another thread, and when it comes to MP in DA my answer will always be NO! don't need it,don't want it and have absolutely ZERO! interest in it. GTAO was ok till they nerfed XP and money payouts on Jobs to bump you into buying Shark Cards which was bad enough, lost all interest in it however once almost every room had the proverbial screaming 10yr old (that should never be playing a R rated game in the first place) yelling "OMG stop killing me I'm going to tell my mom!".

I'm one of those totally against any form of MP at all I spend 8hrs a day at work dealing with people and then more time at the weekends in pubs/clubs,so I have no interest in doing that at home too.

I just don't see how it could work with DA. The pause mechanic would have to be non existent and many people wouldn't like that, It doesn't play like ME3 so you cannot have the same form of multiplayer. I'm happy without.

While it's true that DA:I MP would be an entirely different beast then ME 3 MP, I don't think that having MP would require the removal of tactical based combat.

I personally think that any MP present in DA:I is going to be a lot more punishing of lone wolf play styles, emphasizing teamwork; a concept reinforced by the 'Focus' mechanic shown in the E3 demo. The gameplay itself will be more 'slower paced' then the frantic shooter that ME 3 was, with challenging battles being less about flooding the screen with enemies with overinflated stats, and more about have the players confront foes that require coordination, and tactics to bring down.

I can see MP being less about how many kills you get, and more about how the team can advance together to the bigger boss enemies without all being half dead. A warrior that runs off to fight a Behemoth by himself is going to die, and then leave his team with no tank when they are fighting demons further on. A Mage that focuses solely on getting kills with offensive magic, and forgoes helping out her team with buffs/de-buffs, and more supportive powers, is going to soon find herself alone, surrounded by enemies, and out of mana. Etc.

On the other hand, for all we know the MP could go the opposite direction and become completely turn based, which games like the recent X-COM titles demonstrating that turn-based MP can still work; granted though that the MP in those games was PvP.

There really has been nothing put out that is definitive YES there is MP or No there is no MP from the Bioware team on the issue.

If there really was no MP or intent to be MP for this game, they likely would announce it. As it is, they have not. So, they are just feeding speculation.

Speculation is likely an intended reaction.

After all building up the hype for an upcoming game is mostly just getting people to talk about it, thus spreading the game's presence and catching more potential customers. Like the saying "there's no thing like bad PR". They may not deny stuff that they know isn't in the game, specifically to keep people talking about it.

Whether that's a favourable thing to do or not is another question and one I'd prefer not to try and answer as it's mostly an economic interest conflict.

I would also like to point out that speculating on aspects of the game on the basis that the developers have not denied it being in the final game is inherently flawed. The devs for example never denied that you can't board the Star Wars Deathstar to use as a mobile stronghold in the game. This one is obviously a hyperbolic example, but the principle of thought applies.

I have to say I really liked Fidite Nemini's comment about the imagination of a dragon, so have changed the thread title accordingly.

All EA requires is a online connection so they can continue to delude themselves that people who play Single player games also want a social interaction attached to it. It Says nothing about it having to be MP. Dragon Age Keep serves this purpose therefore no MP.

Did anyone ask about MP in the Q&A session today; or more specifically did the devs answer any questions about MP?

That would seem like the best way to put all of this ambiguity about whether we have multiplayer or not to bed.

The question was asked and ducked.

I want to know about the new Mass Effect. What is the new name going to be? Since the ending, are we getting a prequel? What are you guys planning to do? Will Dragon Age have multiplayer like ME3? That MP was awesome. MP!!!

BioWareDAI  Not asking the right people. I suspect "Mass Effect" will appear in the name somewhere - Mark

So the ambiguity remains...

I think it's fantabulous that we haven't heard anything. They COULD still release it with the game, but it seems less and less likely, as more gaming events pass by without its announcement.

Honestly if they cannot say outright the game will not have multiplayer, even though its about to launch in less then 3 months, says to me that there will be multiplayer. kinda off odd they are still being so coy with it.

Marketing is all about balancing being coy and being forward to steadily hype a game, else there will be nothing to talk about as release approaches.

Gamescom is the next big event, it's almost as big as E3 these days in terms of announcements and reveals.

I like multiplayer and I did play the ME3 multiplayer for hours on end.... But the problem was that you sort of had to play it, at least at launch. Which is a clear no no.

There should be no negative effects of not playing multiplayer, but having some bonuses going over from MP to SP is could be fine. Maybe gold or other resources.

But overall there is little wrong with having MP, as long as they don't take away development time from the SP. Playing your favorite game franchise WITH friends?! Hell yeah! Plus it gives the developers even more money which will in turn give us more BioWare products.

Indeed. I would place my money on MP (if DA:I has it) being revealed then, if not sooner.

It would work the exact same way as ME, they have no pause mechanic, a scaled down set of spells/abilities and all in real time.

I am totally a serial pauser in these games and was pretty sure I'd never be able to handle real time play in ME mp but after a short adjustment period I could handle it.  It's certainly not for everyone that is for sure but for some it's pretty fun.  I still play a lot of ME mp and have not played the single player me3 for a while.
