Honestly, if we are done with Gamescon and there was no mention, at all, of multiplayer for DAI I wouldn't get my hopes up. Chances are it is out, there is a slim chance Bioware is doing something very silly and waiting until as late as possible to advertise a marketable part of the game, but that is unlikely. If you don't expect it then the worst that could happen is you'll get what you expect, and you might get a pleasant surprise instead.
But at this point I'd bet against MP.
I posted this earlier and why I think we saw nothing at Gamescom from someone who works in marketing.
The big thing is that a lot of marketing schedules aren't we go live with *content* on August 18. Its we go live with *content* relative to "launch" or "end date"
I wouldn't be surprised if they had planned a Gamescom announcement, but then with the 40-some day delay, they want to keep their marketing calender relative to release which would push something back to the next acceptable date they have. Which is probably PAX.
Your marketing calender is all hype material maximized for release, whenever release is. Theoretically, MP (or what else the teased "big" announcement is) could be their 10 week out announcement, to be followed by something else at 8 weeks, 6 weeks, etc.
Pushing it back to say like 90 days to release or whenever PAX is, isn't a terrible idea. With such a huge announcement, it would be a great talking point to ramp up anticipation, or at the very least exposure, as you go into the fall game season where every company is blowing their collective loads and competing to get as much space and groundswell as possible.
Announcing a MP feature in a previously non-MP game would be a huge announcement. It wouldn't just be a talking point on the BSN. It would be talked about on most game site forums, comment sections, Reddit, 4chan, etc. There would be press embargoes set so that when the green light is turned on, it is in the "news" every where.
Retailers would probably have some form of creative material in the store, with announcements about bonus packs or whatever.
Considering that Bioware hasn't released a game in the Fall season since like DAO, they're probably truncating their announcement schedule to grab as much exposure as general.
