I have a sneaking suspicion that the "bonus content TBA" will be the same thing that ME3 included in its CE, just a bonus MP unlock.

They've said DA:I won't have Day One DLC, so it couldn't be a character or quest, and I don't see how it could be extra weapons or armour if there's already the Flames of the Inquisition pack and Skyhold gear.

There also wouldn't be a reason to keep something like that for SP under wraps for so long.

I believe they said there would be no DLC characters.  backlash against Javik as DLC was specifically cited as the reason for that.

DLC quests are entirely possible.

That's a shame. I liked Shale, I've grown rather use to DLC characters. Shale, Sebastian, Kasumi, Zaeed, Javik.

On the other hand why wouldn't they tell us there was no multiplayer? They were prepared to just over a year ago, that there was none, but have changed their tune to not talking about it. But I agree from a marketing point of view it would have been better to hear about it if it was in. IMO the only thing that really makes complete sense is that they looked at it late in development, and have something in progress, but are not ready to show it yet.

One of the reasons is because they aren't going to tell us anything definitely anymore without showing it to us, for how much do you want to bet even if they did say "No multiplayer in Dragon Age Inquisition" they are still going to have topics like this one questioning them because they "said the same thing with Mass Effect 3" or something else.

The reaction to Javik was rather strong, and I think EA's changed its policy on Day One DLC as a whole.

Before many people had played through the ending, it was ME3's From Ashes DLC that started some of the negative feedback, even if I thought the vast majority of it was over the top.

There also wouldn't be a reason to keep something like that for SP under wraps for so long.

Yeah.

If it's just bonus items for SP, or even a bonus quest, I figure they would've revealed it before now.

One of the devs said there was a date in the marketing plan for unveiling the bonus digital items, and I reckon it'll be on or around the same time as they reveal MP.

Certainly true, but what possible reason is there to make a big deal about it 2.5 months prior to launch?

If it was something quest related releasing in December or 2015, why not make a big deal of it then?

In fact, let's look at past dlc release dates in relation to the main game:

Dragon Age Orgins - released Nov 3rd 09

Warden's Keep (Day1dlc) - announced Oct 08th 09 - released Nov 3rd 09

Stone Prisoner (Day 1 dlc) - announced Oct 08th 09 - released Nov 3rd 09

Return to Ostagar - announced Nov 19th 09 - released Jan 13th 10

Darkspawn Chronicles - announced May 4th 10 - release May 18th 10

Leliana's Song - announced Jun 16th 10 - released Jul 6th 10

Golems of Amgarrak - announced Jul 28 10 - released Aug 10th 10

Witch Hunt - announced Aug 25th 10 - released Sep 10th 10

Dragon Age II - released Mar 08th 11

Exiled Prince (Day1dlc) - announced Jan 09th 11

Legacy - announced Jul 07th 11 - released Jul 26th 11

Mark of the Assassin - Sep 16th 11 - released Oct 11th 11

So, with the exception of the Exiled Prince for Collector's edition preorder (announced 2 months before launch)

No other Dragon Age DLC has been announced more than 1 month ahead.

If the normal schedule is typical, DAI quest DLC will be released (and announced) across 2015.

So:

The undisclosed digital content in the Deluxe edition could be a day one dlc quest (if that is still done - see EDIT).

But that contradicts the Xbox exclusive premium content - if there is deluxe edition content that can't be exclusive.

So there are two different things here, the deluxe bonus content and

the Xbox exclusive content, they can't be the same thing.

more to think about..

EDIT

If BioWare confirmed no story dlc day one that would be a good citation to capture...

Here you go. The Raptr Q&A.

Q: How many story-based DLC's do you plan on doing? And is there any estimated amount of months after the release of the game that we'd need to wait for them?

A: Plans aren't firm yet. Nothing at launch (MD)

However, Multiplayer was announced for ME3 a full five months ahead of time.  What we're looking at here is half that.  Or even less.  Heck before the delay to November it did reach "less"

Pretty clear then.

No character or story based dlc at launch.

Past track record says no post-launch dlc will be discussed prior to launch and based on past form, not until 2015.

So the bonus digital content is not character or story based dlc.

The Xbox exclusive content might be 2015 dlc - but then why mention it at E3?

I don't remember hearing about a magical time limit for when game features could be announced.

As long as it's before launch I don't see the issue.

Because they got double the exposure during E3 conference that way. Dev conference (EA) and hardware conference (Xbox).

I look into that or consider it a comparable. Other titles have come out with feature details in far less of a timespan relative to launch. Just because it was a Bioware title before, doesn't mean they'd stick to the same schedule.

Okay, so why have they been plugging the single player for an entire year?

I don't think it's worth over-analysing their reasons for talking about it at E3. DA:I got time allocated at Microsoft's conference, and they mentioned exclusive DLC as part of that.

Xbox was, and is, trying to win over as many people as they can, and announcing exclusivity deals seem to be a big part of that for them.

And how is the first singleplayer DLC relevant to any MP mode? :P

Because the details for that are far more concrete. Its also something that more people are interested in seeing and basing their purchase off of as the core of the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've been working on MP for a year or more but for a long while weren't sure which way to take it, so they wouldn't announce anything. If they say "We made PvP arenas!" and then they have to cut it, then everyone will freak out "WTF BIOWER UR TEH WORST F U!". When they just answer questions as "We are not ready to comment at this time" it implies it is a work in progress with decisions still to be made.

Mark and Mike both said at the start they wouldn't go public with any details that were still open to be altered and changed.

Because they need to win back their singleplayer audience? I don't know? Aren't you happy that they've focused on SP while keeping the multiplayer under wraps?

You might be right that three months out seems late to reveal something big like MP, but they could announce it tomorrow and suddenly that would be irrelevant. It'd be out there, most people would know about it, and nobody could claim to be ignorant of MP on launch day.

(If an announcement is coming, then it's coming within the next ten days - that leaves plenty of time to market the game.)

And as I said before, if it's still so up in the air now that they're not willing to talk about it, would it really be a good idea to put it in at this point?  Even with a six week delay?

Because keeping the multiplayer under wraps all that time strikes me as shady and not being entirely honest with the player.  For months we've known about the Keep (even before the beta) even though details are kept uner wraps.  We've known about crafting, romances, the war table, all without kowing the details on how they will be implemented, with details being gradually released.

Why be so secretive with MP?  Especially when members of your audience are going to be suspicious of its implementation?

It could quite easily not be up in the air anymore, but just not time for the scheduled reveal. Its Bioware's first fall release in 5 years. Them holding onto a big reveal less than 100 days out isn't surprising at all. Its smart.

Its not shady. Even if it was in the game and they didn't announce it, it isn't shady.

It'd be shady if they went "We meant that the story is only 40 hours but expect everyone to put in 100 hours of MP minimum when we were talking about play time" or "Yeah the story is 50 hours long, but we meant that everyone is going to want to play it 3 times and that is where 150 hours comes from"

How is it being dishonest? It's marketing. It's your job as a consumer to pay attention right up until launch day so you know what you're buying.

They're not forcing you to buy the game. If a single thing makes you uneasy, you totally don't have to spend money just because they showed a lot of shiny singleplayer trailers six months ago.

And if the previews come out and MP is self-eviently not a broken or buggy mess, nobody would have cause to think it's going into the game in an unfinished state.

It is indeed marketing to build and maintain momentum until launch and keep their game in the news. We hardcore fans know all about DAI, but building awareness is important for sales to the rest of the gaming community and that is achieved over time, with regular announcements meant to appeal to different types of gamers. They did not announce the Keep, the Collector's Edition, the companions, the romances, showed demos, released trailers, etc. on the same day either. Nothing shady or dishonest about it.

True, they didn't reveal this stuff all at once.  They doled out details over time.

However, they did tell us that these things existed well in advance.  We new about romances, and a mix of sesxualities long befor ethey told us who was romanceable.  We've known about the Keep for many onths, but it's still in closed beta.  Demos have been coming for almost a year.

But what has been said about Multiplayer?  Ninety days til release and you can't even say for sure it exists!

It may not.

We've spun 50 pages on mere speculation - and elusive speculation at that.

What we can be reasonably sure of is that game should be finished and content-complete about now.

BioWare previously made a statement in relation to ME3 - I have no reason to believe DAI is different.

[Casey Hudson: 'It takes about 3 months from "content complete" to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC.']

https://twitter.com/...503190946856961

So anything left is now marketing and 2015 DLC.
