Still doesn't answer the question of "why be so secretive about it"

Because they were not sure if they were going to be able to pull of mp until late.  They are working on it and have decided they will have mp but it is not ready just yet.  thus their strategy is to make sure everything is centered on the SP game.  They have carefully planned out what they are going to reveal at what time and the decision to include mp being late is because it was not a sure thing during the development of the game.  Also they are aware that some people are opposed to mp and don't want mp to get in the way of their careful promotion of the sp game and the dragon age keep.

Chose any or all of those.

Or they had a deliberate marketing strategy built around revealing and selling the singleplayer side of the game first, before revealing MP.

You might call it being secretive, I'd call it prudent. Letting people get excited about the main game before showing off multiplayer isn't dishonest, it's smart marketing. As long as everyone knows before launch, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that course of action.

It's about setting priorities and revealing their product - which is, ultimately, Bioware's prerogative and not fans'.

But at this point, they know.  And have likely known for some time.  And they certainly know how controversial such a choice to add it would be.

Waiting will just make the sting of the revelation that much closer to the release date.

I didn't say it was dishonest.  I said it feels dishonest.  Like this isn't a feature they're proud of, but something they decided needs to be slipped under the radar.

It doesn't strike me as "smart marketing" to have a feature they seem to think people want, then spend a year playing up virtually every feature in the game except that.

Sure it's "Bioware's prerogative" But I thought the point of marketing was to draw players?  How does not saying something (assuming there is anything to say) draw people to the product?

I guess for people who are going to use it as reason to change their mind on everything they like and burn their PS4/XBOX/PC

Other people will go "Thats so cool! I'd love to play one of my favourite games with my friends!"

A bunch of other people will go "Eh? Who cares"

There is nothing disingenuous about it though. Its a content release schedule. Leaving MP until after most SP stuff makes sense. "Hey look at all the SP. We have all this SP. SP SP SP SP SP. Do you know about the SP?" then transitioning into something else like MP is normal.

The number of people 'stung' by such timing is very very small.  Even amongst people who could care less about mp or those that do not want it at all.

You're assuming they don't plan on announcing it at all.

Waiting to make an announcement is not being ashamed of something. You plan a reveal and everything that goes around it. Then go live on a press date.

If I propose to my girlfriend, I'm not being disingenuous and ashamed because I didn't tell the world before her. I kept it to myself until I was ready for the world to know.

Your entire argument feels dishonest.

We all know that it doesn't matter to you when they announce it, you'll complain about it. If they'd announced it early, you'd have complained they don't care about the single player game. If they announce it now, you'll complain they're 'sneaking' it by people.

The only time you'd be happy with an announcement is if it was 'There will be no MP.'

You're guessing what their motivations are for delaying an announcement. If there is a multiplayer I think it is more likely being delayed because it is not quite ready to show.

I really don't think some of the people complaining about it now would be even happy with a "There will be no MP" statement, for then they will go back to the tweets from ME3 and bring out "they said no MP either" and continue to have this conversation.

Meh, you are right that I'll be happy if they say "there will be no MP"

But if they had announced it six months ago, I'd have complained about the inclusion of MP, but not that they were being dishonest about it.

And fwiw at this point my entire argument is pretty much theoretical as I don't believe there is MP at this point.  Because, you know, they'd have announced it by now. ;)

And as I've said before, if it's not ready to show by now, even as a demo, what are the odds it would be ready by the time it's ready to go gold?

I do agree with Iakus here; I'd say it's pretty unlikely that MP isn't ready enough to show even as a trailer. More likely they are saving a big marketing announcement for the final marketing push.

Well everything needs to be finished at a certain point of time. My theory is that it was a late addition, they worked on single player first not knowing exactly how to implement multiplayer in DA. But they always wanted to add MPer if they could do it well because ME MPer was so amazingly successful and well received.

Who is to say it hasn't been ready for a month or two? Just because something is ready doesn't mean it goes live.

If they unveiled everything once it was complete then we'd hardly get anything until like 3 months before hand.

I think the Donald Rumsfeld quote applies to this topic:

"Reports that say there's -- that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things that we know that we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know."

It is entirely possible that the MP is finished and they're waiting to reveal it.

If you can't conceive of the possibility that they might want to show off the singleplayer portion first, that's your issue.

The inclusion of multiplayer isn't going to sell anybody on Inquisition. It'd be there for the people already dropping their money on the single-player.

That is definitely true for the vast majority dreamgazer. Though I've seen people who're interesting in an RPG, knowing full well they'll play the single player through 'once' but wont buy it due to a lack of MP to play with their friends. It's a minority but hey, it exists...?

If EA/Bioware were going to 100% honest with everybody then it would of been revealed that Bioware was instructed that a DAI MP had to be included before any EA brass would ok DAI

Bioware, as a studio, have considered putting multiplayer into nearly all of their games

Is it so hard to believe this is something that the studio itself might be excited about doing, and interested about exploring? They finally have the time, resources and money to do something like this, why are you assuming that the studio are being pressured into developing?

Not to mention that MP would make more money, which in the long run keeps everyone employed and making AAA games.

I would not be upset if the there was no multiplayer, the game looks awesome as it is.

But there is clearly something undisclosed, so I will wait patiently to discover whatever it is.

It seems kinda stupid to wait until after they have shown the single player to reveal multiplayer (to me). If it is in the game, I would rather they were upfront about it, and were like 'Ok, there is muktiplayer, but the single player is awesome as well.' Rather then show all the single player and then reveal multiplayer, making it seem as though they were deliberately hiding it.
