I've done my cc/healer mage, toyed with destruction magic, and even toyed with with arcane warrior, but had to erase that file

Anyone have good build ideas??

Personally, I use the Character Respec mod to alter my 'Spellbook' for specific areas. This allows me the freedom to try lesser used spells, or practice combos, tactics, etc that are effective.

That said, I have never used all of the Specializations; not interested in the Shifter, and barely have touched Blood magic in all of my sessions.

Destruction is aways a good idea. Especially fireball and cone of cold for CC pourposes. In the entropy tree, unlock mass paralyses. That spell will render all enemies affected vulnerable to your team. Also unlock mana clash ASAP. With Wynne vessel of spirit it can kill any enemy mage instantly. Even elites. Not to mention healing skills like regeneration, but those are no brainers. And while not mandatory, death hex is an good spells to eliminate high level enemies more quickly.

Try soloing a squishy mage. That'll turn magic from a toy into a weapon and a tool for survival.

Start with Cone of Cold + Walking Bomb or Mind Blast + Fireball and take it from there, see what develops. The first route is easier but slower, the second a bit more demanding but very fast. The video thread should have some inspiration, and current controversies may inspire exploration of new ways...

You could even turn to shapeshifting a bit later, as that seems to be missing from your list.

how is shapeshifting I've never used Morrigan's forms, and I gave her SH as her second spec, to offheal when I'm not using Wynne

I've only ran SH/BM on my mage runs

I like it, and I think it's very underrated. All the abilities ignore spell resistance, which is very useful in Nightmare. There are some weaknesses-you can't use magic while shifted, you can't have sustains while shifted, and certain spells like Dispel Magic will break your shapeshift. To balance that, STR/DEX/Constitution scale with spellpower, and can achieve 100+ by the end of awakening with some stats.

Spider-Poison Spit does Dex damage and can do a lot of damage over three seconds. Web will immobilize a enemy for a time.Master Shapeshifter will let you Overwhelm with 5 attacks.

Bear-Rage adds +10 strength and Slam is a automatic critical if you hit.Master Shapeshifter will let you attack for 11 attacks.

Swarm-Add +40% Dodge to your existing dodge with your mage-it's very hard to hit. You can also attack multiple foes at once with Nature damage. Think of Swarm as a AOE you control.

Damage is based off strength and can come from two sources, any str bonuses you get from equipment, added to your Str you get from increasing magic.I've had a 100 spellpower mage get 30 STR for spider, 50 for bear by the end of origins. You can attack two different ways-staff for autohit or regular weapon to try for criticals and double damage. If you go the critical route, increase attack and utilize 2 Songs of Courage and Shale/Wynne.Crit carries over when shifted, so enough crit gear and you can do a lot of damage

All really cool...Never really tried shapeshifting myself and sounds like playing shape shifted is a little mini game in itself to optimize it.
