If you need to implement a social aspect to the game...

I'm not a fan of multiplayer, and having it affect my SP game is a huge deal for me. I do not like it at all. Vanilla ME3 proved that point all too well for me. Yet a lot of companies are being "strongly encouraged" by their publishers to implement it into their franchises, so I thought about this, and I came up with an idea.

What about having an online Auction House for gear that players can make? Crafting has long been underutilized in the Dragon Age series. If players are allowed only one or maybe even a couple crafting jobs, then they can select what they want to do. For instance, if I play a rogue, I can either select to take up a job that allows me to make bows (if I'm an archer) or makes swords and daggers (if I am a melee fighter). Moreover, if I decide that I do not want to go that route, perhaps I could craft medium armor and make my outfits instead. Better yet, maybe I decide to make a poison or potion. There could be numerous types of crafting: skins for wardrobe pieces, accessories, potions, bombs and traps, etc. The choice would be up to the player. Maybe someone who plays a rogue wants to make staffs for mages (for whatever variety of reasons they come up with).

The gear players craft could be sold on the Auction House (or AH), allowing people to really be able to create a custom look for their Inquisitor.

Having presented this, I know there would be challenges to this, such as the AH's economy and how that might affect the SP game and also the worry about hackers trying to ruin the system. I'm sure there are many other issues as well that I am not really aware of. But I feel that this could really work. I would maybe point to Bioware's The Old Republic as an example. Most mats players can create, but there are some that are proprietary to Bioware, meaning that there are some special looks or skins or components that can only be bought with Cartel Coins; as long as that is not too badly abused, I do not foresee the majority of the player base being too upset about this.

The fact remains that this solution would not only meet the "social requirement" for the publisher, but it would be completely optional for the player so that it only affects the SP game if they really want it to.

..........except not only is it a massive waste of the resources used to make it as the devs and publisher have no way to recoup their losses, it would cost even more in order to overhaul the entire crafting system to make this even remotely viable. On too of that, who would buy gear online when you could just make identical gear ingame with almost zero effort.

Also, if there were any benifits to be gained from such a system (ie you need to trade for certain gear) than it is affecting single player in an appreciable way and utterly defeats your point. In short you seem to have not thought this out all that well, and also the "online component" is being met by the keep Allready, so problem solved

A message system like that of the Souls series would be easy to implement and useful.

How it works: Any player can write down a message anywhere in the game world with a limited amount of pre-set words and sentence structures (i.e. "Be wary of ****", "**** ahead" or "**** required"). These messages will appear in some other players' worlds

I don't think it should be 1:1 the same, but it's a great principle and DA could work with something similar.

That of course only if you needed to implement an online system. I don't like the idea of an online market too much.

Diablo 3 had an auction house. And, in order to make it truly functional and not something only a tiny number of people would use, they requires the game to be Always Online and dependent on Blizzard servers to even fire the game up.

That ended... poorly.

MP should be totally and completely gated off from the SP campaign. No overlap in the least.

why would you want an auction house? that would break the economy of the game and make it too easy to get things earlier than you should, i would rather the single player stay single and IF there is multiplayer i would rather than have no great determining factor on the SP campaign like, play the multiplayer and get more agents if you win? something like that i could live with i guess
