I agree, but people seem to forget or just not realize the game was already delayed, so they have had quite a lot of extra time to refine it.

It was obvious they didn't want a repeat of DA2, which I think if it had more time in the oven, could have been miles better than it was.

Even if it was already delayed before, if they feel another delay is necessary to ENSURE the best possible experience of the game, I'd say they should do it. So long as it's no ludicrously long.

For instance, if they were to delay the game to December like the OP said, that really wouldn't be a big deal. And in the end, if that's what it takes to make the best possible game, they should do it.

I support delays but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I mean if not delaying the game means we get a buggy unfinished game then yea obviously you want it to be delayed. But I've seen a lot of delayed games that turned out to be disappointing or just flat out garbage upon release. Watch Dogs is a prime example of this, getting delayed by half a year. Delaying a game doesn't necessarily mean the game is gonna be "better" or more fun when it releases.

I support delays, honestly. If in the end it creates the best possible product, the most refined experience of the game's caliber, I say it's worth the wait.

I'd be bummed of course, but if you want the best of the best, you're gonna have to be patient about it. My personal video game philosophy.

Very few developement houses (even less that aren't Japanese... and especially ones owned by EA) make games like this anymore. It's not about making the game the most polished it can be as getting it into an acceptable state for public release and patching out the most game breaking and obvious bugs later. Anyone that thinks that them delaying the game again would result in a blemish free experience is delusional, they'd just used the time to make some more buggy day 1 dlc content to monetize.

And that's a very big problem with the present day gaming industry. Especially with big RPGs, where any short-comings are incredibly obvious and compromise the experience.

also it's not abnormal for dates to get pushed back in software development. In fact, before we came up with more modern models for a software development life cycle process we had this http://en.wikipedia....Software_crisis

Uh-huh.

Look, how do you know it doesn't happen all the bloody time, and the developers simply don't announce it the world?

It could but that's the point I'm making. I've never seen another game I've followed closely do it which is why I said it's concerning...no need to get all defensive about it. I already said, it's the only negative on the game I've seen so far and given EA's track record with their past games(especially recently) their games have not exactly released polished to the satisfaction of many consumers. I don't think EA is the devil like a lot of gamers seem to think but I think it's fair to be a little reserved/concern based on your past experiences with them.

I bought BF4 at release and it was an utter mess. It took them a good 6 months to clean that game up. The servers issues alone in that game didn't really stop until somewhere around March/April which is a long time for a MP focused game like that. I'm sure some of the blame goes on DICE's shoulders too but EA is the publisher and it's their responsibility the product they're releasing reaches a certain quality standard for the consumer. Sure, Bioware isn't DICE but they are sitting under EA's umbrella and ultimately, EA is the one that decides when the game should ship.

The game was delayed a full year to add the other races. I seriously doubt it's getting delayed again.

So Bioware being owned by the same publisher that owns Battlefield 4 developer DICE and DAI showing some placeholder textures in prerelease media means that the game is going to be horribly broken upon release? Am I following your train of thought correctly here?

Not a chance. EA already gave the DA team a 1 year extension, we also have an exact release date that was nailed down just recently + there's nothing to suggest that this game is in any sort of trouble.

Say what you will about Bioware's recent games but I think they know a think or two about Project management/Shipping a game.

They would have to had Pulled a Ubisoft/Watch Dogs on us (AKA Lie) or have the worst project leads in the industry to derail the entire project.

I mean DA:I has had the best development environment of any Bioware game possibly ever. Best Tech in the Business, Some of the Best Programmers/ Artists/ Writers/ Designers/ QA in the industry & a Huge budget (Probably around 60 to 80 million dollars).

There will be Bugs, probably a lot seeing how big the game is but that's normal. But bugs never stopped a AAA game launch (BF4  ) & it won't here. The game will be fine.

Three months out, they would have announced a delay already.  They need to be testing right now, which from the sounds of the devs and writers on twitter comments, that's exactly what they are doing.

Game companies usually go gold two months out, which means they start burning the game discs. Which I can't imagine being that quick of a task. Big games like this are usually mailed out to retailers 2-3 weeks ahead of release, retailers usually receive it the week before. So they need to have those discs ready, packaged, sealed for shipping between 9/16-9/23 time period.

Even if they find a glitch/bug at this point, they would patch it on release day if it's not a quick fix.

I didn't say it was going to be "horribly broken upon release". I said it's a concern the game could release buggier than anticipated and might lead to a delay.

http://www.gamereact...bug fixes now"/

Dragon Age: Inquisition producer Cameron Lee told us during our E3 interview that the game's done, and that they're on track for the October 10th release date this year.

"Everyday we're playing the game, reviewing the game," he replied when we asked what's the game plan for the next couple of months after E3's finished. "We have this massive list of bugs we need to go through and fix. From now to October 7th, ever single day its bug-fixing. The game's done. It's just a matter of polishing and fixing bugs, and we're done."

The game looks awesome and I can't wait for it. I'd have to say though I've never seen a game 4 months from release using temporary textures in their marketing.

What "temporary textures", and was it actually confirmed by BW they're temporary? As opposed to e.g. a random post on the forums complaining something wasn't up to the poster's personal expectations, and jumping to conclusions.

You think EA will let them, after allowing them an entire extra year. EA? Yeah... No.

Doubtful its already been delayed once and now that all the editions and pre-orders are out very unlikely.

Unless something truly game breaking is found in its current stage and beta it will come out on time .

Gaider said they were placeholder textures on the Cole pics.

Oh please no delays. The closer it's release date is to Witcher 3's the bigger headache it's going to be for everyone. I'm also a bit concerned that two games with similar audiences getting released at the same time might hurt sales on all sides, people can justify buying one game in October, and another in February, put them closer together and people will start choosing.

A fundamental truth about any software development is that there are always going to be bugs. They could delay the game over and over, and they would still just keep finding more bugs. Meanwhile, the development budget just keeps growing, making it less and less likely that the game will be profitable.

At a certain point you just need to say "it's good enough" and shove it out the door, and hope that most people don't have any problems.

I don't see how a placeholder texture (or clothing pattern) indicates that a game is behind in production.

The texture in question was complained about being overused, and Gaider stepped in say that it was a placeholder. For all we know there's a few fabrics whose patterns just haven't been locked down on, yet. Doesn't sound like a reason to worry to me.

Couldn't care less about non-game-breaking-bugs. What actually worries, terrifies me even, is how much content could they have cut to get the game out the door on October. It's usually the little things that add the best flavors to the roleplaying experience, and usually the little things are the first to get cut. They also happen to be what the mainstream audience least care about.

What I'm talking about is: how many conversations have they cut? How many unimportant features, which would nonetheless enrich the experience? I hope not much, and I know the guys at Bioware would not do this, but EA... the pressure they put on developers, and their philosophy, terrifies me.

Ah, good to know. Can't say it bothers me too much -- there's good chance the pictures used are from older build and don't reflect what things are like now (and even less so 3-4 months down the road)
