I highly doubt we'll be able to destroy or take it over, maybe MAYBE we'll be able to influence the civil war in some way but as of now, we dont have enough info to make any safe assumptions.
but if we could do anything, I'd take away all their cheese.. they don't deserve the happiness it brings.

It seems like we might be able to influence who ends up ruler. If we can influence who ends up ruler, I would want it to be Celene. I hope that we can possibly take it for The Inquisition, I totally want to do that. Then, all the pretty dresses and food that tastes of despair will be mine!! ![]()

What to do with that arrogant empire does anyone think we can destroy it or take it over and reform it or maybe give it to ferelden any thoughts or comments ??
There could be a third option in siding with the elves, instead of Celene or Gaspard, given some of the information from "The Masked Empire". Or perhaps you could refuse to save Orlais. It depends on how much agency the protagonist is afforded. There are more than a few things that seem optional, so I'm not getting the feeling that rescuing Orlais will be mandatory.

Not really getting all the hate here. Orlais seems like land of mystery, intrigue and opportunity when compared to Ferelden and Tevinter.
It's a land of corruption...fancy shoes and hats.

I'mma put Celene on the throne, unless Vivienne's goal is actually to take it for herself and she convinces me to. :B

i doubt that's her goal, as a mage she wouldn't be able to keep the throne due to all the hate mages get when they have political power... you know, all that Magister business.

Things like that have happened in every feudal society on earth. In this specific case, you even see an instance of that happening in Braveheart as I recall, but wherever there is a class system, abuse of status is bound to happen. I don' think Ferelden would have been much different

Except that in ferelden corruption isn't promoted like in orlais and gives much more privileges for lower class than orlais. So everyone is corrupted doesn't equal individual can be corrupted (like in every healthy system).

The empress or the duke that is the question! The empress is the answer! (maybe gotta see whats going on first, but more than likely I will side with the empress)

If I look at the way elves are treated in Ferelden, it's not exactly a reference in terms of how to treat your worst off.

I guess if there is just 2 ruler choices'd pick Celene as Gaspard is just itching to conquer Ferelden again. If there is a third I would help the elven rebels as the Orlesian nobility spends all their time one upping each other more than actually running their country. I know this would lead to chaos but this decadent system has truly become rotten. I would choose a nicer third party to take control but I know in this type game he or she would get killed or be innefective.

Well that in orlais we have constant riots says something about them when in ferelden we don't. I didn't say that ferelden was perfect becuase it have own flaws but in comparison to orlais and tevinter ferelden is a lot better place to live if you aren't noble.

Need to kill any mage that crosses your path and oppress the rest. Otherwise they either A) Resort to evil blood magic and summon demons or
Assault your ears with incessant whining about the Templars.

I think we will have to do something to resolve the war since all the death and bloodshed is fuelling the breach. That is why we keep having to go round fixing things, to end the chaos and assist us in mending the Veil.
Personally I'd like to divide Orlais in half. Give the north to Celene, the south to Gaspard. Suggest each shows what they will do with their respective half if they are not fighting each other. Gaspard won't be strong enough to invade Ferelden, particularly if Celene maintains her treaty with them. He may be harsh with the elves but he'd be a fool if he was. He knows now that the Dalish are no real threat so he can forget about them. Basically he will need to show he can govern effectively as well as fight and scheme. Celene can get on with building up the culture of her half of the state and enacting any reforms she would like to do, hopefully with the backing of the nobles whose support she has always enjoyed. Of course she won't be able to do any empire building either. However, should either be attacked from outside, the other has the option of assisting them. I'd also recommend outlawing the Game as a way of deciding who is fit to rule. There is never going to be any real progress if the ruler is essential the head of the Mafia.
However, since that is not likely to be a credible option, I'll wait and see. It may be that there have been developments since the events of Masked Empire that will change the perception of the two characters. For me it may also depend on how well they react to my PC. First time through I am playing a female elf mage, so neither side might be inclined to trust me. I certainly won't trust them.
