Probably the default like usual. I don't care about the name seeing as not a single person in the game will refer to him or her as it. That being the case, the first name could be whatever random thing in the world and it wouldn't make a difference. Half the time I don't even know what my DA character's name even is because I don't care to pay attention to it.

 

I admit that sometimes I do weird crap though. Like one time I named Shepard "Shepard" so that I could pretend everyone was using his first name. But that's about it for me. Otherwise, the first name is irrelevant to the point where I don't care to change it.

There is one name I really want to use as an homage to a long forgotten television show, but I doubt the character limit would allow it as it would be 23 characters long (28 if it allows spaces)

And that's as far as I've gotten. I might look through the defaults once I get the game. When all else fails I just grab a name from a book/movie/game I like.

Im naming my Human Male Warrior Alec. Alec Trevelyan named after the Goldeneye Villain 006.

I usually go with Celtic names. It helps reduce the options to a manageable amount. In this case is particularly great, since Trevelyan is Cornish. Right now I am mostly divided between one of two options:

• Connor. It means "Hound-lover", so it's perfect for a Fereldan. It's also a very "rough" name which creates a nice contrast with the more musical "Trevelyan". And they are both Cornish!
• Trevor. It comes from the same root as Trevelyan and it creates a nice alliteration. In the unlikely case someone ever calls the human Inquisitor Trev, I can boast my character got called by his first name
