So, BioWare WILL be at GamesCom and bringing DAI with them, that much I could gather, though it's not set in stone as to what volume of information they will be presenting and if they might even present a playable demo or anything like that.

Still hoping for some BioWare folks to find this thread and comment.

If this isn't your first Gamescom disregard the whole post.

Honestly wouldn't advise going there anymore. Organisation is a mess, all halls are completely overburdened and they refuse to open up any more halls despite the Köllner Messe being the 5th biggest exhibition centre in the world.

Last year it was so bad they closed of the watch dogs booth like 10 minutes after the doors opened, for the whole day.

With perma tickets gone you won't even be able to leave and return for a lunch break anymore.

Take plenty of drinking water and a folding chair with you. The Gamescom tickets should still serve as tickets for public transport. Focus more on smaller titles as they have significantly shorter lines and get way less coverage.

Wargaming gave the best goodies last year but Razr offered you a chance at really highly priced ones by winning a match on their booth. The PC hall in general gifts the most and the most valuable stuff like gaming keyboards/mouse's, gpus, mainboards etc but you have to be lucky or tall to get them.

Oh and visit the retro section.

The holy grail of people who venture to conventions. We aren't kidding you, by the end of the day you'll either be glad you brought it, or curse yourself if you didn't.

Well, at least now I know to not go to GamesCom... I don't deal with people pushing, crushing and being rude and selfish very well, thanks for helping me decide! :D

I think that it is not that bad if you avoid the big blockbusters? And if you wait till they are out of free goodies, people will behave better, I guess. Security would start throwing out people if it would be pushing nonstop, as it could lead to dangerous situations.

The security itself is creating dangerous situations...

Like I said, that CoD disaster was an exception. Usually it's just crowded with everything that comes with crowds. And being the largest public gaming convention, the crowds are big, hence the usual crowd dynamics apply in scope.

If you really don't like crowds, then no, GamesCom or any other big convention isn't for you. But for everyone else, it's one of those things that I feel every one should have done once in his life. GamesCom, or any other big convention of your interest, isn't just crowds squeezing themselves into three hour waiting lines, it's an experience.
