If a Halo game can win GOTY, why couldn't Destiny? You said it yourself they are basically the same. I didn't particularly care for Halo, and I feel Destiny played much better. Given that 2014 don't have many huge releases I think Destiny may have a shot at GOTY. But who knows I'm just being an optimist ^_^

Halo: Combat Evolved (the very first one) won game of the year. Considering there's 6 more of them now, and Destiny practically plays exactly the same (even feels the same), I doubt game critics are going to give GotY to an FPS with rehashed mechanics. Especially when that's what Destiny is: an FPS. Bungie likes to use buzzwords quite a bit. "Shared world shooter" they call it. Really it's just a co-op FPS with some open areas and some dungeons branching off of it.

Maybe it's just a matter of preference but Fall 2014 is jam packed with releases. Destiny isn't even my most anticipated game. And considering how long I've had it preordered, that's saying a lot. In fact, I'm looking forward to another FPS with co-op gameplay, much more than I am with Destiny. Despite it's garbage narrative, I had a blast with Far Cry 3. With FC4 coming to next gen consoles and adding drop-in/out co-op....I imagine I'll have more fun roaming around with a friend in that open world, than I will in Destiny. It's just a fresher experience to me.

I'm sorry you feel that way about Destiny, I thought it was great. But there's to show you everyone has different preferences.

Don't be. I had fun with Destiny's beta. I just expected something different out of Bungie. I wasn't really blown away. Maybe that has something to do with the betas level cap. I'll make my judgement when I play the full game.
