I played an elf mage and in normal difficulty with DLC, on a PC. I relied almost solely on paralysis explosion and storm of century combinations. I know there are many posts on tactics and strategies but just wanted to share, though probably not very original still would like to here comments. Thank You.

My character never took any damage throughout the game, others solo in nightmare etc. but this was just my goal. NPCs only took some damage in early game to the Broken Circle quest, and no more thereafter. Never used health or any other buff potions, only lyrium was necessary, obviously due to the reliance on SotC.

Almost exclusively used Morrigan, Wynne, and Leliana. Though Shale was crucial in defeating Flemeth. Without Morrigan I needed her earthen grasp to, along with Wynne and mine PEs, effectively stop the dragon long enough while I cast double SotC on her. I had aggro and along with Wynne force fielded myself long enough to put an end to her. Shale with brilliant small Ice Crystals also showered her with rock barrage to add to the ice damage done by Wynne's staff. An archer would have helped but was not necessary.

High Dragon in early game was done essentially by me and Morrigan. Called the dragon into the entrance area of the gauntlet, we were behind the wall to the left. The first SotC was free, no retaliation. The next two had me an Morrigan running back and forth as the dragon did the two hop to change head to tail. This avoided the fire spit and went around the flame breath. The buffet did knock the party down and against the wall but did no damage. Again, PE at the critical times bought the time to get off the storms. No buff potions or armor needed.

Gaxkang, or was it Kanggax, I always get games mixed up, was also not difficult but still takes a few attempts. Same party, first PE, if not resisted, then the two vulnerability hexes by Morrigan, if not resisted then my mana clash with corrupted magisters staff, black hands gloves, and the two spirit damage rings. One shot and the revenant is never seen.

The revenant squads in the brecilian forest were also done with SofC and vulnerability hexes, along with prepping the area with glyphs before hand to hold the skeletons when they spawn.

Shale was also used against brood mother, she was kept held throughout the battle and the storms also took out all the darkspawn that poured out. Branka was actually harder, same basic tactics but Ohgren was not much help.

Sir Cauthrien was funny, and easier then many others. I had Leliana as ranger summon a bear. After PEing half the archers and Cauthrien, and using Sleep to take out the other half at the beginning of battle we ran out to the room just outside the entrance. Some paralysis glypths stacked at the door slowed down Cauthrien who cant be held long. Then the bear just outside plugged the doorway. With three mages force field could be kept on it continually. Double SotC in the room and Cauthrien eventually went down. Great seeing her swinging away with her feared sword at the bear.

Leliana's captivating song was also critical for many battles where no prepping is possible, i.e. surrounded by melee at close quarters, stops them just long enough to take further actions. The song was first used in the battle with the Lady of the Forest, stormed the werewolves also. Kolgrim same.

Archdemon was initially very difficult for me. The old tactics didn't work. I finally realized that I need a second rogue so I had to go back and replay Zevran so that he had full mechanical talents. What a mistake it was but I couldn't have known earlier. Also if I had to do a full replay I would have given that frozen wastes tome worth 3 attribute points to Morrigan and then after circle tower and honnleath head first to orzammar and buy a 1 point tome from that street vendor. That way I could have had SotC at level 9. Beginning to think that bloodmage for me an Wynne was unnecessary also and better spent on other earlier spells.

My two mages had to use PE twice and force field twice on the archdemon to buy enough time for the two rogues to get to the proper ballistas and us mages out of the way. If that first part can be done without resistances then there are still many random variables. Archdemon is to a degree predicable in when and where he jumps but there is a degree of randomness. There are 5 ballistas and initially it should be between a first two to the left of the entrance area. If he stays put long enough or merely leaps back into the same area then it can be brought down to 25% health. You can know this when Arl Eamon appears in the area. If that goes as expected then the next quarter phase of damage is in the area to the right between a second pair of ballistas. The third quarter is when his reinforcements are called in. It lands back in the island area where the first ballista along with the fifth ballista can reach it. The last quarter is between the fifth ballista and the fourth that was used in the second quarter phase attack.

When it leaps and where it lands is never an absolute certainty but again there are patterns. The various NPC's that show up could also effect its actions.

The team was on haste to make possible the initial steps. Also Leliana summoned an animal which could also operate the ballistas on the platforms. She ran to ballista four as the bear could operate two or three which are close together. The key was to have a rogue on one of the ballistas in the pair that can attack it at any given quarter phase of the battle. That way if the ballista the rogue is firing jams, the other waiting ballista can continue firing under a mage while the other is being repaired, though it can be unrepairable. No breather for the archdemon to take action.

It took many tries but it can be done. The dark spawn never came to attack. No damage taken, no potions. Very ironic that no spells were used.

Very nice first post. I never even think of getting Captivating Song, as SOC is just so awesome.Your tactics are also very impressive.
