Thread's not pointless as long as the OP isn't being rude in their criticism (Which so far, they haven't been.). They're entitled to their opinion. Let's not make this an arguement-y thread that gets shut down.

I'm still excited. I haven't seen the character customisation thingy in full detail yet. And Dragon Age: Inquisition looks like it'll have a lot of "firsts" for me personally.

I agree.

Steelcan is not a troll. He just wants to express some thoughts and see if anyone else is in his place.

Probably, but it's just a feeling I have, I never claimed to have any objective prof the game will be atrocious

I never claimed you made that claim. :D

I'm just saying that unfortunately if you aren't interested in what's been shown of the characters or story, it's unlikely BW can do anything to make you more interested in that aspect of the game pre-release. Maybe once they show off the team-based gameplay some more that will spark your interest.

I said that I'm having some misgivings about the game based on what we've seen so far, no one is making you reply to it

My apologies. That was a poor choice of words on my part.

Not me. The more they release, the more I think I need to hit up some back to school sales for supplies. I'm seeing me need to make notes, plot spell combos, go back over the books and graphic novels, study the World of Thedas. All to strategize the combat and Keep situations. Do I go with might or diplomacy or do I send in the spies? How many merchant keeps do I have? I will need a note book for each of my advisers, one for crafting, one for combat scenarios, one just for spells. Each piece of information adds a layer to how in depth this game will be and how I need to really think about every move I make. I love it! I already see me playing at least 4 different Inquisitors of varying races and genders so that is a minimum of 400 hours of gameplay! Dayum!

We don't know enough about the characters to make any kinds of judgement. A blurb here or there hardly tells me anything, neither does their appearance. I need to talk to them before I make any calls there. Maker knows a blurb and pic of me would hardly endear me to anyone, but I always hope people would rather talk to me and get to know me before making any real call about whether or not they like me as a person.

Having said that, I have faith in the writers continuing with the rich, vibrant stories and characters they have already created. If you have loved characters from the other games, loved the stories of the other games, read any of the books out there, then there is a 90% chance you will love this game too. To me it is worth the gamble, others it might not be. :D

I kind of know what your saying I had the same thing happen to me leading up to GTAV. I remember thinking Franklin was just going to be a stereotype who wasn't fit to fill CJ's shoes, but now I've found him to be my favorite PC out of the three.

My point being I no longer think to much about character blurbs anymore unless it's for romance. I find that if you go in thinking negatively about a character it just makes you end up hating them when you actually play it.

The characters in particular do not appeal to me in the slightest. Loghain, Alistair, Fenris, Sten, and Shale all look to be leagues better than anything this group has to offer. So far, perhaps due to just getting tidbits of info, they look like snooze inducing bores, perhaps Iron Bull or Dorian can shake it up, but the rest look dreadful.

So far none of the romances appeal to me, but that's a factor of the characters not being appealing as well.

We really don't know that much about the characters, especially characters like Blackwall, Sera, Vivienne and Dorian, we know a bit about their dispositions and their general goals but we still don't really know much about how they are in game or what they are really like.

There are 8 romances apparently so hopefully at least one will appeal to you.

And my hopes for the game beyond the characters are even less, the story seems to be shaping up as a generic save the world deal, just substitute Veil Tears for the Blight. My confidence in BioWare's ability to make a solid RoG were smashed after ME3 and DA2

Fair enough.

I guess I just don't understand the cynicism. If I "lose confidence" in a company's ability to make solid games, I just tune 'em out. I find it bizarre the way people that have supposedly lost faith in Bioware continue to frequent Bioware forums and monopolize the YouTube comments section.

Not trying to be a dick or anything. Just sayin.'  if you don't trust Bioware and Inquisition looks like a snooze fest to you, then why continue posting on the Inquisition forum? There are plenty of other game makers out there to choose from.

And for the love of god - please stop with the DA2 and ME3 axe grinding. That was years ago. When are people going to move on, when the Rapture occurs?

For me sucks especially because I'm currently on summer break with nothing to do. And the game literally comes out the week my freshman year university classes start. ;-;

Your main problem seems to be that you don't find any of the characters interesting.  I myself find it difficult to truly judge characters without doing one solid playthrough.

For instance, I had a completely different idea in my head about Isabela before she does you know what in act 2.

Also, before DA2 came out, I thought I'd get along great with Fenris and I'd always have him around.  Well, I use him for combat but I'm not particularly fond of his character though or think he's that interesting unless he's talking about Qunari society.

Problem with that is they did try to shake the formula up with DA2 and it was not well received, so I think they probably needed to go back to a more traditional BW storyline, which they do well, to restore some faith, but as Maria said there are nuances to the game that will give it a point of difference.

Excitement is still there. It does appear some people excitement seem to have taken a hit just simply because certain character(s) will not be romanceable by their Inquisitor.

They are still the best gauge of what BioWare is going to make in the future. Looking at Bauldurs Gate or Jade Empire isn't going to tell you what BioWare is trending towards currently

My excitement spikes and drops but I'm pretty excited.

It'll probably reach a fever pitch around release date as it usually does ^_^*

Not when DA2 got half the development time and a lot of the marketing has been to tell everyone what they are doing differently than DA2 (environments and tactical combat being the major points there).

Mass Effect is also a different dev team. But ME3 is one of the best games I've played sans ending.

Also, personal opinion: Jade Empire is one of my least favorite BW games. So..

You know people can still talk about it even after moving on right?

i think too many people were put off by da 2 and me3's ending and are scared they will get hurt again, but they learned from it and took an extra year to make sure they get it right.

as for the hype, nope, im eating it up...  the more info the better.  Im one who likes to plan routes through games, trying to get the best results as possible, and the info about characters and their personalities gives me a good enough idea on how not to lose them during the course of the game

. We can argue the merits of ME3 until the cows come in, and we have been since March 7th 2012, but that's for the ME3 section.

As for DA2 they can say as much as they want in prerelease statements, but they are hardly going to say "yeah this game is going to suck hard"

It's not just an extra year. DA 2 was only given a year-and-a-half development time. Bioware began conceptual work on Inquisition when Origins shipped, and has been intensely working on it for the last 3.5 years.

Well, if they screw up, they at least won't screw up in the same ways they did with DA2.

. Once again, they aren't going to say anything else in the pre-release. For all we know the work they did on it after Origins was the title, there is much that Gaider has said has changed such as adding in race options, that alone would require extensive new work
