Writing can still be messed up.

The writing wasn't a problem other than a rushed Act 3.

I'm getting more and more excited with every news drop!  I sort of wish I would have just avoided all info till the game was out at this point...because I have become so obsessed with it all!  I need a support group.  Hello my name is Lee, I'm a Dragon Age addict.

Let's not forget letting the bloodmage girlfriend that you have ever reason to believe is a bloodmage walk free despite being able to kill others for much much less.

Dat plot railroading.

...That was rushed because of a very short dev cycle, which doesn't apply here.

I mean sure, they could screw up the writing. I'm not saying it's impossible. But if I extrapolate Origins and DA2's first 2.5 Acts to this game, I think we're in for some riveting stuff.

How does Grace being poorly written have anything to do with a rushed schedule?

Once all the LIs are confirmed - sexualities/race gating, I'm banning myself from the forums. I'm only allowing myself to visit DA home page. I don't want to be spoiled on anything else.

I went in blind to Origins and DA II. Completely blind in Origins case as I didn't pick it up until a year after it was out because I never saw any marketing about it. DAII was an immediate preorder, but again I didn't follow anything. This is the first DA game I have followed the development on and it has me soooo excited. Much more than all the hype for Mass Effect 3.

Note that Hawke doesn't have much influence in the city until after Act 2 ends. Although you probably should have been able to at least confront Elthina about her.

Seems odd to single out DA2 for this, no? Story/gameplay clashing concerning blood mage-ing has been a problem since Origins, and is why there's no Blood Mage specialization in this game.

Could you be a little more specific? Is it because she's grateful that you let her go and then once captured becomes embittered again and takes it out on you?

XD to be fair Meredith probably thought they were a horde of bloodmages and even a mage supporter Hawke would draw the line there. Though that convo really only makes sense if Hawke's a mage or Beth's in the circle otherwise it's a "Uh...why do I care?" scenario.

Or my favorite "you've fought Meredith at every turn and Orsino and Meredith clearly don't get along but you're a spy and a threat to the mage/templar alliance to oust Meredith." Good grief.

Believe me I ragged on DAO about similar moments too. But at the end of the day everything you were doing was helping with the main plot. No matter how ridculous it was (Urn). It gave you a clear benefit. Letting a  psycho bloodmage go who eventually turns around to kill the few reasonable people was not a benefit.

I really didn't mind Seb that much? He waffled a lot and he really should've just killed Anders on his own (or there should've been the "you do it then I'm leaving") choice. But he's not that bad to me? *shrug*

Oh I thought we were talking about Merrill the psychotic blood mage girlfriend, haha. We're talking about Grace the psychotic bloodmage girlfriend?

In that case, can't you turn her in to the Templars?

I can actually respect those who can keep their excitement in moderation. It's something that should be had for any game, I know it's a skill I try to uphold after being burned by games like AC3. It's done me well to look in retrospect and think "wait, this game could suck". Unfortunately for DAI, it manages to do the exact oppsite in terms of managing my excitement.

Yes, and it changes absolutely nothing than if you helped her escape, it ends the exact same no matter what you do

LOL no. Not Merrill XD Though not being able to turn her off was a bit weird too but whatever.

Oh yes you can. And one of the templars suggests to kill them. Can you go along with that? Nope. Gotta agree with the guy who says just to bring them back. Even after said mages tried to get you to kill them. I mean really at that point Hawke's killed people for much less.

Edit: And yeah as Steel said no matter what you do it ends exactly the same with her going psycho and blaming you for her mistakes. (It's hilariously pathetic if you let her go. Apparently Hawke was supposed to give her food and money along with her freedom. What a case of never my fault).

But that's hardly "letting her walk free" or "letting her go." You're sending her back to her prison.

I was a bit surprised at how venomous she was towards my Hawke that let her go, but I don't see the issue there. She clearly is a character who blames others for her mistakes, including her very first interaction with you which was to blame her boyfriend for everything.

When she's a bloodmage? That's punishable by death. Letting her go back to the circle (and hell I don't even think Hawke can tell the templars they're bloodmages) is absolutely a light sentence. Every other bloodmage Hawke meets? Stabbed in the gut/killed. But when it comes to Grace all of a sudden it's time for the peaceful solution?

Nothing changes as a result of what Hawke did. And you're pretty much forced to treat her with kid gloves despite you know bloodmage that already attempted to kill (or have you kill) people for her to escape. Like I said Hawke kills people for less.

I suppose this will depend on your view of blood magic and if the death sentence is at all an appropriate punishment. By extension it'll depend on whether your Hawke actually has killed people for less. I am surprised to learn you can't kill Grace in that cavern, since I've never attempted it. What happens if you tell them straight up you are turning them in?

@OP do you feel like your views have been tainted by the character threads themselves or merely from what Bioware has offered so far in the way of information?

I can understand excitement waning, although I've gone the other way as I felt orginally indifferent.  On one hand I feel excited to see more of the characters but the endless speculation and negative reaction to certain aspects of characters within threads has worn me down in the past (for example my opinion of James Vega going into ME3 was very very low, but then I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed having him around and I thought Freddy Prinze Jnr did a great job as his VA.)

True. And mine had up to that moment so I was very confused.

She just pouts then goes fine and you fight some skeletons on the way back.
