Fiona was cured of her Calling. Perhaps some think Alistair may be, too, because he was conceived around the same time.
Ehh......Possible, but that sounds kinda like wishful thinking.

It would make sense though since Fiona was as well. It wouldn't be so far fetched.

People still doubted this?
Fiona doesn't have to go on the calling because reasons.
A wizard did it.
A darkspawn one, but still a wizard did it.
The dragon's blood and the stupid possibility that he might not have to go through The Calling mixed with the elven heritage makes him a writer's pet in my eyes.
Oh sure, because we have so many examples of elven heritage being a good and empowering thing in Thedas like...what? Unless I'm missing something, it's generally a bad thing to be elf blooded in Thedas. Most characters take pains to hide it.
I guess I just can't understand why some folks are this upset over something so small and probably never will.
Good.
You did not explain. How would it be clear if you don't explain?
People still doubted this?
Hoped that it wasn't true.
A wizard did it.

Bloody stupid.
I am a bit confused about the elf-blooded thing. Why would that be "good" for him when no one would claim it if they could help it?
Does Maric have a elven fetish? First that Katriel girl from the Stolen Throne and then Fiona. Also, wasn't Fiona at Alistair's joining?
Why would I explain something I thought was obvious?
I'm asking why it's unfortunate.
Yea, being elf-blooded really doesn't mean anything

It's another needless trait in attempt to make him more unique that takes away from what made him likeable, why are you specifically picking that out amongst everything I listed?
Bloody stupid.
That's what happen and most of the magic in dragon age is unexplained.
Alistair is extremely close to being a Mary Sue now.
Dragon blood, mother is a ex warden who cured her taint and was leader oft he mages, a grey warden, has templar powers, is possible king...
Jesus christ, there are fan fics better then this. Extremely disappointed.
It does seem like that he's becoming more and more a Mary Sue as they write about him more....
He was fine as he was in Origins, he didn't need Dragon Blood or the such.

My "Canon" City Elf Warden who romanced him and chose not to crown him will be happy to learn that.
Actually, she kind of suspected from the day he told her the story of his conception. The story of the human chamber maid being wooed and dumped by the king just didn't ring true to her. Call it elven intuition, "elf radar," what have you, but my character pretty much suspected the big cover up of the truth of his birth was due to an elven rather than just common human heritage, and I imagine she deliberately spread rumors of his elven heritage to help him get more accepted by her people in the alienage. (And this was long before I ever heard of The Calling or Fiona, so this is not me retro-actively applying meta knowledge to my character.)
If Alistair ever finds out in-universe, I imagine she'll be like: "I KNEW IT!!!"

Well, that's left a bit ambiguous at the end of the Calling.
It's not so much the matter of whether or not it's far-fetched (a concept that I don't really take too seriously in a fantasy epic like Dragon Age), but just that sometimes Alistair's character can leave me a tad bitter with how he romanticizes the order, only for him to get a Get-Out-Of-Darkspawn-Free card.
Ehh, idk. I'm glad he does just because he's a favorite of mine. I can see why it'd annoy you though.
Stahp it!
LOL I'm sorry!! I agree with you on everything else though ![]()

Out of all of the complaints, that's the one that makes the least amount of sense. Plus, that is the topic of the thread, not the other things you listed. The dragon blood bit, even Fiona being immune to the Calling I can understand.
Oh, so an elf-blooded major character isn't unique? We have...two counting Alistair that are confirmed as elf blooded. If you wish to stay that frustrated, to each their own. I think it's a very silly thing to get all worked up about.

The lack of an explanation isn't the problem, the concept of getting out of what makes a Grey Warden a Grey Warden is just plain bad writing.

So, wait, what takes away from what made him likeable again?

1. Why would she? She has to get the ok from the circle she is in. Added she orlisian, she would have a tough time getting into Ferelden in time.
2. Maric's elven fetish also explain Alistairs elven fetish.

Aren't the elves naturally more attuned to magic?

This is the opposite of my problem.
