Wow, all the "short is ew" comments make me and Peter Dinklage feel awesome. (Granted, 5'1" is only a few inches below average, but the point still works.) *puts on that Randy Newman song that was being joked about earlier*

Dwarves are the anti-Mary-Sues. No person who likes writing them would choose a female dwarf, because every Mary Sue wants to be either petite and lithe or tall and willowy, if not Barbie-esque. Granted, you could make a similar case for qunari because of the horns, but at least they can be tall, leggy, and sort of willowy. Dwarves can't.

But Jared Padalecki married a short chick. Kristen Bell is a short chick. So's Melissa Rauch. So's Emily Browning. I could go on. Short can be adorable. More people should give short a chance!

Maybe short people are just what Aimo says: fun-sized, baby.

Eh, I'm not familiar with most of your celebrity list there, but I'm slightly shorter than average myself, and I'm still not a fan of playing as a dwarf for the same reason I don't like playing female elves - in the game itself I end up thinking that they look like they're going to be crushed in combat.  And I'm not interested in playing a game and wincing at most of the enemy encounters.

Has nothing to do with real life - it's just how the animation looks (I was uncomfortable with having a female Hawke romance Anders in DA2 for the same reason - he was tall and crazy, so it hit some subconscious "this is wrong" button for me that the larger male Hawke didn't).  I don't want to think about a tiny character being crushed by their enemies (or their crazy lover, in the DA2 example).

Dwarves. Feels like they always get the short end of the stick.

But seriously, Dwarves.

I think there's a difference between being a small, five feet tall human and being a broad, squat, four foot tall dwarf.

Dwarves are the best; usually if I don't play a human I play a dwarf, but those actresses are like Thedas elf proportions.

Dwarves are like blocks of meat with legs and arms, a minifridge almost; not below humans with average height.

It depends on the game for me. For DA I dislike elves and dwarves. Elves because they are sentimental and boring. But I'm actually a bit sad about dwarves. I really love them in WoW and Warhammer, cause they are a proud race of warriors, engineers and explorers, and they have heavy accents and funny mannerisms. Same thing applies for witcher dwarves as well. They are fun to have around.

In DA dwarves are sick with greed, only care about politics and the family name. They are like short ruthless old greedy men. Sure they have a more realistic culture etc, but they just lack what I've always found great about them. I like Varric because he is different and has these qualities I'm describing. I liked Oghren too for the same reasons and the 2 guys from the Legion of the Dead, but they are the exceptions to the rule. I wouldn't be proud to play as one.

I just can't get into playing a dwarf,  I'm tall and slim irl and playing a short stocky character feels weird (I also didn't like the oppressive feel of Orzamar).  I doubt I'll play as either dwarf or qunari in DAI... at present I'm thinking Female Dalish Mage and human rogue.

Elf.

It's just so unsatisfying to me.My problem with playing as one is nothing palpable, yet it is very strong. Love elf companions though. Zev, Fenris and Merrill are some of the best characters to come out of Dragon Age lore.

I have no interest in playing a Dwarf or Quanari, so I will stick to Elves and Humans. Actually I am not so keen on DA's elves either, so I will probably stick to humans.

Humans mostly. I think it's one of the reasons I didn't really "feel" DA2 because I just had to be a human, whereas in Origins I mostly played dwarves. So for Inquisition my Trevalyan is going to be my last Inquisitor I play. Gotta get my Qunari, Elf, and Dwarf out of the way first and enjoy the hell out of them.

Qunari and human.

I usually prefer playing the stereotypes of the different races. Dwarf warrior 1st, then elf rogue archer. If I'm playing a fantasy rpg as a human, it's usually as an elderly mage with a long white beard or a barbarian. The horns ruined the Qunari for me. And Flemeth too for that matter.

Yup, and they still are, but not including Varric--thus obviously not because they're short, which was the point. And Peter Dinklage is still the bomb. It's just the average DAO dwarf, really.

So why are they gross?

Dwarf. I don't have a problem with their height. I've just never been a big fan of dwarves, in general. Except Varric. He's awesome. :) I like playing as a mage or an archer so I usually play as an elf if the option is available. They are just so graceful!

Dwarves. They are too fat... If they would add some body type and include one which is similar to Thorin's in the hobbit movie that would be cool...

So why are they gross?

Because they are distorted and discolored of features to the point where they look like permanent drunks who've had their faces punched a lot and they all have disgusting braided beards that probably haven't been washed their whole lives. Did I seriously have to spell that out for you? Everyone's seen them. Would you seriously want to bang Oghren if you were/are into males? Or this: http://i.imgur.com/xvBJk.png ? That's Danny Devito/Ron Jeremy territory right there. Not sexy.

If you would hit that sort, all I can say is, your preferences are VERY different from mine.

But Peter Dinklage and Varric are still adorable. And I say that as someone who likes the elf-like body types most IRL. So it's certainly not that dwarves are gross inherently, it's male dwarves in DAO. Call it male dwarven fashion if you like, but I didn't see a single dwarven male in that game whose appearance was actually pleasing. I made a decent-looking male protag once, but it was hella hard and I likely couldn't do it again.

Gross. That is my opinion and it stands. If DAI can change my mind, great, but male DAO dwarves made me cringe.

Humans and elves (though city elf is probably my second favorite origin) I've got one human and two elves that I've completed on DAO compared to about six dwarves.  I will play an elf before I play a human though. Something just not interesting for me to play as a human at all aside for maybe an early test run but I avoid them pretty fiercely .

Elves. Too skinny, short, and unbeardable. Now the Dwarves might be short, but they're the life of the party.

Dwarves... no magic.  Qunari... not really a fan of their culture.  Elves... dealing with humans while playing as an elf gets old fast.

None of the other races have any advantage over humans that I can see, so... I'm just not interested.

Dwarf. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed several Dwarf characters like Varric and Sigrun, both of them were awesome characters that I generally tried to keep in my party, but I don't really care for Dwarfs in general and i REALLY don't like playing as them.

I've never played as a Dwarf, in fact the only two instances where I bothered to even create one was for the Origins 360 achievments. Idk what it is I just can't stand playing as one.

Playing as human when I have options to play as something else. Why would you constrict yourself in a fantasy role playing game to play something that you already are?

I can't get into playing dwarves. I can love them as companions, like Varric and Sigrun, but not as my character. I like playing elves best, but I plan on playing humans and qunaris as well in DAI.

Elf. From appearances to history, elves are the cause of their own affliction. Dwarves I can somewhat tolerate to an extent but still not play as one.

Always prefer playing human. Am really hyped about playing a Tal-Vashoth and learning more about the "Qun"
