Elves, though funnily enough my first DA:O was a sword board elf.

Elves. As much as I love Elven characters, enjoy that we've got two very seperate cultures in the Dalish and Alienage Elves and have fond memories of my utter fail first ever playthrough as a City Elf, I can never find myself playing one for very long in Origins and have yet to complete an Elven playthrough in it's entirety.

For me, the Dalish Origin doesn't really get any payoff until Witch Hunt, DA2 and the novels unlike the others, so I find myself to be less invested, while the City Elf storyline is just so depressing (in some ways, more than the Human Noble family massacre), particularly when you come back and find that since you've been gone things have gotten even worse for your people.

While I've still not finished my Dwarven playthroughs either, I still find them probably one of the most interesting races in the entire setting (after Qunari) and really wish that they could get more love from Bioware. Seriously, give us a female dwarf companion and a dwarven romance already!

But that's why City Elf is my favourite Origin, when you stop the blight it feels like things will finally get better for your people!

Humans. Because I'm a human. Simple as that.

Humans in RPG games are DIFFERENT than Humans in real life.  There are no mages or rogues in real life.

well, I agree with majority here - humans are boooring *yawn*

I like to play Dalish elf, because I can hate them as much as I please XD it's refreshing ... and relaxing ... and is a nice stress relief (just like killing darkspawns!)

qunari could be interesting to roleplay, but since Inquisitor is vashoth ... I'm not so sure

Your opinion. Humans can be just as FUN as the other races if you use your imagination.  Sadly though...its become very trendy to follow the masses and hate everything human.

It depends on the game.  The arm/leg proportions and hand sizes in Origins were so whack that I had a hard time playing as anything other than human (and I didn't appreciate human all that much, either).  It's solely an aesthetic thing for me, though.  If I can make a character I like in a race, I'll happily play a character of that race.

The only race I don't like in DDO, for instance, is Warforged--because they ALL look male, and I hate having my character look male.  That being said, I've still played as a Warforged character for some caster lives.  I try my utmost to avoid it, though.

It's funny, the Dalish are easily my favorites in DA, but the City Elves are arguably my least favorite.

I mean the City Elf Origin is interesting enough, but if I'm going to play an Elf, I find the Dalish culture is far more interesting. It's also why I like the Dwarven Origins - interesting setting, interesting culture.

I think it's quite unfair to call people's opinions you don't agree with "trendy", describing them as just "following the masses".  Seriously, they're entitled to have differing opinions to yours -- there's no need to outright attack them for it.

The insinuation that those who don't care for playing as humans have no imagination wasn't cool, either.

I didn't really like the city elf origin either it was okay. Much prefer the Dalish route, it's my canon choice, love it. Really happy to see the Dalish back for Inquisition! :D

I'd argue that rogues are a thing, we just don't call them that.

I don't like playing as a dwarf. Hard to feel badass when you're looking up at everybody.

I really like how they're presented in DA though. Varric is one of my favorite characters. I also think that the dwarven carta rogue outfit is one of the best costumes in the series. Too bad Hawke never got to rock it. That armored hoodie was killer.

True, but there is that ending slide where Shianni gets murdered if she becomes the Bann of the Alienage, so even then there's a lot of things that can potentially go horribly wrong.

For characters such as Valora, since we never see her again and Soris later ends up marrying a human woman, we're left to infer that she was either killed in the riot after the City Elf left, the reprisal purge or was sent to Tevinter to become a slave. And despite rescuing your father from the slavers, Valendrian had already been sent to Tevinter and the Alienage loses a good and respected leader.

While the ending slides aren't necessarily canon, it's still probably the least "happy" ending overall, at least in terms of the people that the City Elf Warden cares about.

(Unless Hawke murders the the Dalish Warden's entire clan in DA2)

The elves. Well I can deal with mages and dagger rogues. Bow elves and warrior elves not so much. Watching a bunch of pathetically frail people doing stuff that requires massive feats of strength is just like lol no. I liked Fenris' character and still couldn't stand to have him in combat. Just destroys my immersion for whatever reason.

Still close enough to real life humans for some people to not like playing as them as much as you. Just let it go.

Humans, mainly because I play an RPG to play as a different race/species than what I am in real life.

Hard to feel badass when you're looking up at everybody.

Dachshunds disagree with that idea! http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.1464678

Besides, the fact that people look at you and just see an adorable little shortie is an advantage. They underestimate you in a fight, giggling at how funny and small you are, and then you come in with your low center of gravity and stab them in the family parts long before their sword ever gets near your low-to-the-ground head.

I know, it's deeply ingrained in society--most people subconsciously assume that badassery and dominance come from height and gender and brawn, but those are antiquated notions. It's good for us all to get used to the idea that the leader/badass/protagonist can be something other than the biggest, most muscular male alive. (Part of why I love playing mages/rogues.)

Dogs understand this instinctively. It's not necessarily the biggest, strongest dog that leads--it's the smartest one with the correct energy for leadership, who is going to make the best decisions. The rest of the animals in the pack follow that dog naturally, even when it's smaller and/or female. Dogs understand that those superficial characteristics mean nothing--it's the well-being of the pack that matters, and that means going with the sharpest mind and the most stable personality.

I think it's fun to be a tiny leader strutting slightly ahead of a tall entourage.

Fenris is no less robust in appearance than a female Hawke, who can very well be a warrior that wields a big two-handed sword herself. If any elf looks ridiculous, it's that tiny elven fanatic in DA2 that tries to poison people with gas, who is using a big two-hander herself.

I know that, of course. But aesthetically they're of the same race as you and I. Their culture most represents that of ours (if ours would be in Thedas). They don't have horns, pointy ears, or a very short build. They are referred to as humans.

Should I go on?
Of course they're not exactly the same as us. But they're the closest to us.

But I don't HATE playing as a human. I didn't really mind playing as one in DA2. I just prefer the other races.

Humans are my least favorite by far. They're too privileged (but not in a fun snooty, overlord, high elf way)for me to find interesting and their culture and ways are too similar to our western culture both modern and medieval for me to find interesting. They're "default" in every way. Being forced to be human was one of the absolute worst and frustrating aspects of DA2. If they force a race again I'd rather it be anything but human. I'd rather be a psychic nug or rhyming tree than a human again. :/

Psychic schmooples, I'd buy that dlc.

Dwarfs. I like all the dwarf companions in the DA franchise. I enjoyed Oghren, Sigrun, and Varric in my party, for some reason I just can't play as one.
