I always play as a (female) human because I need to experience immersion and connect with the character and I'm unable to do that with a dwarf or an elf.

Dwarves.
not because i don't like them, its just that i prefer to play as a mage class.

With dwarves, the only magical abilities i can achieve are ingesting lyrium or resorting to a form of blood magic by drinking dragons blood.

Id like to see a dwarf with these specs in inquisition or a future game, comic or novel to explain to us how they can do it without their magic resistance affecting the specs ability.
obviously makes sense for surfacer dwarves as they lose their magic resistance over time.
Also how does a dwarf inquisitor get imbued with the ability to magically close fade tears...?

That being said, i do want to play as dwarf eventually. Im hoping to see what the artificer spec can offer or perhaps templar or reaver.....depending on talents.

Humans and Elves for me.

Humans because I find them the most bland, and/or Mary Sue-ish of all the races in 99.9% of all fantasy/sci-fi settings out there; so I'm a little biased. Not to say that I detest human characters in those settings, I just find the common tropes associated with humans to be annoying. Tropes like: "Humanity being the most populous race.", "Humanity being the only race capable of ingenuity, scientific advancement, and/or political scheming, despite being the youngest of all the races.", "Humanity being the only race with varied and nuanced individuals, whereas all the other races/species are mono-themed i.e. the Warrior race, the Merchant race, the Logical race, etc."

As for the Elves, I don't hate them, but their popularity (both in DA and other fantasy settings) makes me not want to play as one for my initial play throughs; what can I say, I'm a hipster when it comes to stuff like this.

**I will make a small caveat in that I will play an Elven Inquisitor if playing as an Elf is the only way the player could recruit things like Slyvans into the Inquisition, or if Elven Mages are the only ones that can get a Dalish Keeper specialization, which included the ability to summon Sylvans.

That leaves me with a Qunari or a Dwarf for my Inquisitor. I know that the Qunari are a fairly popular choice among fans (especially the Qunari Mage), but seeing as how the horned men are the only remaining race that can become Mages I am torn. Out of the three classes the Mage and the Rogue are my favorite; I never really enjoyed the Warrior class. I could be a Dwarven Rogue (which is likely to be my first pick) but I can't seem to picture a Dwarf as a Rouge; this is of course hilarious seeing as how I hate the troupe that non-human races can only based on their core concept (warrior race, merchant race, etc.) but I can't seem to picture a Dwarf outside of their stereotype.  :D

Depends on the setting but for DA definitely Humans. They're like the non-marshmallow bits in Lucky Charms; sure they're good for padding things out, but they're still bland as all hell and why would you ever pick them over the interesting marshmallow bits?

I like to play with all the races, but the one i enjoy less is the dwarf simply because i can`t play as a mage (which is my favorite class).

Anyone except human. Can't really bring myself to play as anything else since I always play as a mage and I don't see any reason to make my life even more difficult and bring even more layers of biggoty and bias. Kinda have enough drama as it is.

It's also really satisfying and therefore infuriating at times being a mage, helping people and saving them. And making both the Hero and the Champion mages, and from the same family to boot. It's like an ultimate trolling non-stop. Can't wait to see how it will play for the Inquisitor.

Hmm, not any entire race tbh but I never, ever play a female elf or male dwarf. Female elf is just too delicate and feminine, while a male dwarf is the opposite (hyper masculine and beardy lol). It is hard to identify with either. My favorite to play is a male elf followed by a female human. I also like playing a female dwarf.

As for the qunari, I think I will enjoy both of them; yeah, the male qunari is one masculine dude, but, qunari are pretty hot, too, and I won't mind staring at that for 50+ hours

Its trendy and popular to hate on anything human when it comes to games.

I get the feeling that now you're purposely trying to antagonize others who don't share your opinion.  Once again, not cool.

Anyway, seeing as how humans tend to be the most popular race in any game where they're a playable option, I could say that you're actually the one who's just following a trend.

Really, if I got right down to it, all of the four playable races are too human for my tastes. One being actual humans, and the other three being humans with a slight tweak in appearance and a variation on some aspect of human culture for the elf/dwarf/Qunari perspective. There are no real 'alien' races to play as either in terms of appearance or culture/ideology/perspective/ect.

It may seem a bit nit picky (especially for a fantasty game), but then again my favorite (Table Top) RPG moment was when I played as a giant (as in six foot long) ant with human level intelligence. It might seem like a rather odd choice of character, but I loved roleplaying my character; dealing with how that character's motivations and general 'alien' perspective differed from the rest of the human group.

*Come to think of it, this is probably why I like the Rachni from Mass Effect so much.

I don't expect BioWare to create a game centered around the struggles of a truely non-human character, but if DA:I were to have some form of co-operative multiplayer, I hope that the various fantasy creatures are available as playable options. I can defiantly say that I would be playing as a Golem, or a Sylvan, or a Werewolf, or even a Mabari Warhound over Humans, Dwarves, Elves, or Qunari if given the chance.

What can I say, I'm weird like that.

Dwarves. Playing as one is too disconnecting. Also male elf because of nonexistent facial hair.

Anyway guys did you play Darkspawn chronicles. The shreik was so cool. I can see the appeal of being a darkspawn.
Too bad they made shreiks look like goblins and the emissaries look like clowns

You played da2 right? the darkspawn were just......why does bioware have to go and destroy all the good things in the game. they looked so cool and monstrous in dao, in da2 they looked like 'Thy Merry Men', the clown gang that came in my brother's birthday lol. and ofcourse there were goblins

Don't forget the 'Donkey Kong' Genlock Alphas in the Legacy DLC.

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of the Darkspawn redesign in DA 2 either; though I will say that the Qunari redesign was good.

I think the Darkspawn have undergone another redesign, but I am not aware of any dev supplied screen shots; or the like; of the Darkspawn in DA:I. Hopefully we will see a return to the creepy/body horror designs that they had in Origins and Awakening.

I would love to see the Children in the Frostbite 3 engine.

But BW may say this: The darkspawn in origins had their own distinct appearance of the archdemon. They cannot look like clowns infront of him, that would be bad posture. So they showed their real selves in DA 2.

Or how about another of BW's possible answer:
Since the darkspawn in DAO as threatening, bloodthirsty monsters we got reports of some casualties due to heartattack. Now since we have redisgned the darkspawn, even children can play Da 2

I really like some of the dwarven characters I've seen others play (including my husband's M!Aeducan), but I really have no interest in playing as one myself. Maybe one day I'll roll an Aeducan and a Brosca just to get the Origin achievements, but beyond that I don't see myself playing much further through the game with them.

Human

This, unless people are actually unsure what it is to be human, im not all that interested in human protagonist. Don't get me wrong, some games create a human avatar that is so unbelievable that they actually make you question if you are humaning the right way, or hard enough? Who else could I be talking about but the one and only Commander Shepard... lol, Shepard is one of the few human avatars who actually make you feel awesome being human, even when you are standing amongst awesome aliens.

Death got you down.. Then you're not channeling Commander Shepard hard enough, get back up and when they asked how you did it? You tell them, "I got better!"

You don't have a theme song.. Then you're not channeling Commander Shepard hard enough, "You can fight like a Krogan, Run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard."

Yeah when they make a human as badass as Shepard in Dragon Age whether I control them or not, my opinion may change, until then. Human's least enjoyable race for me.

For me thats elves. Simply because in inquisition your're stuck being a Dalish, if you want to play as elf. Now thats a idea i dislike very much. I like the backstory behind them, but theyr present state just doesnt cut it for me. They're pretty much just a bunch of smug arrogant idiots, who care only for themselves, as in the Dalish not elven race, and if the whole Merril/Elluvian/Keeper/Clan cronic lunacy and the situation the clan was in DA:O is actually a mirror of the rest of the mentality in the other clan its a damm wonder they havent blown themselves up and gone extint. When you look at it, the situations you find the Dalish in, when you run across them, are, at theyr root, caused more likely than not by themselves. If I had to bet, I'd hazard a guess that the big bad is actually some crazy elf with delusions of grandeur that wants to bring Arlathan and enslave the rest of the "inferior races". As for the rest of the races im fine either way. I guess im in the minority but my 1st playthrouth, or canon, is gonna be as a human. Simply because my canon is what i would do if I was the one facing the situation, and i have a easier time relating to a human, since last time i checked I'm one. Definatly gonna roll a qunquizzy right after though :D
