Dwarves.
I just don't like them. :/ I don't like being short and dense, and they're out of proportion. Plus, the politics. Ugh... made me want to *headdesk*

My least favorite are Humans.
In the DA games, I play humans mostly (I had one elven mage).
I tried all the other races in DAO and I never got any of them past Ostagar.
Um..There are no human mages in real life. You can't kick ass or do anything your videogame characters can. Human characters are NOT like real humans.
That's not the point.

Once I would say I'd play as pretty much any race with no issue. Now, I'd say I don't like playing as humans just because they are emphasized so much and "streamlining" in the past has meant I've been forced to play them and only them. In as much as they have become the unfortunate mascot of fewer choices, I'm going to avoid them in any games in future that give me a choice.
I am tempted to play a human mage just as a point of conflict between the two LIs I feel most likely to find appealing (Cullen, hopefully Solas)... but damn, are they boring! Not IRL, just in a fantasy setting. What worked for Mass Effect in this sense does not translate to DA for me; I liked being a human in ME, maybe because the species were 100% new and thus would've been intimidating to mess with in the first game anyway... but not in DA, where we're all a little bit familiar with those don't-reinvent-the-wheel races (elves, dwarves.) The qunari are new, but we were exposed to them several games before they became available.
ME was also about the us humans. The real earth-dwelling core of humanity. Maybe it's a bit of an uncanny valley thing, but DA humans are imposters--they look like us, but they're not us and don't live on our world, therefore they feel just different enough to kill some of my ability to relate to them as protagonists, and just similar enough to be boring to play as. They're also, as usual, the most likely to be jerkfaces. The other races are the ones with the interesting non-average body types and features, and the fun lore... oddly, I don't mind human characters all that much. I just don't like playing them in DA.
I also think non-Varric dwarves are pretty gross overall. Except for female dwarves. I like those best, with elves and qunari second, and male dwarves at a dead last in preference. Even after humans.
The only thing that hurts me about dwarves is that they can't be mages, but I'm still hoping we'll run into a DA game where
Mage is my favorite class. Dwarf is my favorite race. That is the only category which gets you totally screwed over--preferring the dwarven mage. I don't want to sacrifice the lore... but I do want to dance around it. I mean, it would be so cool to have even other mages be weirded out by you! "Omg, a dwarven mage, wtfbbq?" It would be especially fascinating if you had restrictions and benefits, like, the way magic manifested in dwarves was different than in other races, and you could have a built-in specialization. Golem-summoning, lava bolts, opening up the earth to make enemies fall partway in and have to dig themselves out, pelting people with rocks like a Jedi Consular... overall, earth-magey stuff seems plenty appropriate. But really, I'd take anything.
Someday, Bioware. Pretty please? It's on my wish list big time! D&D wouldn't let me be a (non-sucky) dwarven mage back in the day either. Make my dream come true?
Qunari
Usually don't like to play as humans or dwarves. But I will play a dwarf in DA:I to experience dwarf pc with Iron Bull. Dat size difference.
I'll play a female dwarf for Varric, the Iron Bull, or Blackwall.
Dwarf. I always have trouble finishing my dwarf games. In fact until just recently I had never gotten either my Aeducan or Brosca past their Origin stories. ![]()
Elves. They bore me to tears.
Dwarf. Maybe it's shallow of me, but I'm short person and I just don't like the idea of being short in my games as well. Dwarven NPCs (like Varric in this game) I love though, so I have nothing against the race itself, just me playing a character as one.
Human probably but I will still make at least once. It used to be Elves but they grew on me a lot.
Dwarves were my favourites in Origins and I think the qunari are great
I love Dwarves but I have a hard time playing one as my main character.
I always associate them with the side kick role... for some reason... Dragon Lance and Forgotten Realm books prolly. haaah
Dwarf for two reasons..one that can't be Mages (which I almost always play) and two, they feel weird when I use them, their movement and their fighting. Just can't get a feel for them. Like them ok as a race but as a player they confound me.
As much as love me some Dwarves I have a really hard time playing them, not because of looks or lore but more to do with their run cycle animation.. they bounce far to much and make me sea sick, after an hours playing I want to heave. (can't play FPS for the same reason) That said I have tried and tried to get through to the end of DA:O as one.
I don't see why people are saying Qunari when they haven't actually played as one yet. I mean, sure you could not like the Qunari characters like Sten, Arishok, etc.or their culture, but I'm sure playing as a Qunari (especially if they are not apart of Qun) could be interesting and fun. ![]()
Not a big fan of Dalish Elves or the Noble Human. I haven't played as a dwarf, so I'm not sure.
Dwarf men. I like them, I just don't like playing as them. Don't know why.
Dwarves.
I tried guys, I honesty tried in Dragon Age Origins to play as a casteless Dwarf and I failed. I only gotten to Ostagar where I just put the controller down and said, "nope."
Dwarves. I don't know why, I actually like that race with their crafting skills and underground cities much better than any of the other races, but I don't want my protagonist to be a dwarf.
“One day the magic will come back--all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see.”
I hope he was talking about Inquisition. And I hope it means next game dwarf-mage will be a thing. *crosses fingers so hard*
I might play as a dwarf in inquisition, but in Origins female dwarfs their arms reminded me of a gorilla
haha
So I never got around to play a dwarf, I know there are mods to fix it on PC, but I play on xbox ;s
Dwarves really are the hipster choice it seems, just looking back on all the answers.
Humans. What's the fun?
Dwarves are amazingly short and chubby
Elves are amazingly big-eyes and pointy-eared
Qunari are ****** kossith, grey as steel, hard as rocks, exotic like dragons
