Well judging by what Corypheus said I am leaded to believe that the magisters were tricked and that the golden city was always black.

Short answer, no we don't really know. However with all this fade business and the Inquisitor walking physically out of the fade i'm sure we'll get some answers. Or more questions.

Probably the latter.

Well if there was no Golden City, may be that was not the city of the Maker at all; or may be maker is just a myth.

I'll go with the Old God's turning it black, which is why the Maker stuck them in the ground and put them to sleep.

You see, what really happened was that Sandal forgot to pay his electric bill.

This is one of the questions I'm hoping we get to delve into in this game.

Seriously, I think it was the elves of old and their dreamers. Their mirrors seem to connect to a place beyond the veil and it was found out in masked empire that the mirrors were suddenly closed for some reason. Demons like the one of the unbounded Ismael has the key to use the mirrors for some reason. Teventor may of just been tricked to opening a new path beyond the veil and letting lose what was there.

It instantly went black right when they did the spell to enter it. So, simultaneously the magisters turned it black right when they entered and never saw it as gold.

I think the Golden City turning Black is connected to the event that created the Veil and separated the Fade from the physical plane.

This, their very presence is what turned the city black. Since no mortal is without sin, any mortal who attempted to enter the Golden City would corrupt it, as the magisters did.

I've always been of the theory that it was always black and that the idea that it was golden was just a myth. Considering I doubt whether the Maker exists or not is probably never going to be answered, it seems likely that the black city was just there or is connected to some other event.

we might get some info in this game, though, since it's about the division between the Fade and the mortal world, and one of the major themes of the game is "faith".

Corypheus doesn't explicitly say it was black when he got there.

If anything, his line "We sought the golden light" implies the city was golden at one time.

The ancient Tavinter Magisters?

I though that was fairly clear after that DA2 dlc.

Maybe it was only ever golden on the outside, and the magisters just exposed the corruption within?

I'm with "The Magisters Did It" on this one, though.

The line goes: "The light. We sought the golden light. You offered... the power of the gods themselves. But it was... black... corrupt. Darkness... ever since. How long?" He doesn't draw us a diagram, but it seems pretty clear what he's referring to.

We'll decide by how Anders reacts.  Does he react by going something like 'Wait!  That was true!?' or 'Ha!  I knew the Chantry story wasn't true!'?
