We don't really see any mage ever in the Fade, beside that one who got trapped in DA:O. But being tied to the Fade is what makes you a mage; being severed from it forcefully is what turns mages tranquil, after all.
We do see elves in the fade.

Uhh guys, didn't David Gaider explicitly confirm that the Golden City was, in fact, golden before the Magisters reached it?
No he did not.
I just want to mention the abomination/revenant dwarf that was in The Calling. It seemed to me that demons can possess dwarves like anyone else. Demons are living in dwarven ruins and it is not impossible that ancient dwarves could communicate with demons.
Not really supporting or discouraging the theory, just wanted to mention this.
Being possessed is not the same as communication with demons. Demon can attach to anything once they cross the veil. It's get across the veil that's the issue and normally to do that they need some one with the magic to thin the veil or lots of the death in the area. Any demon or spirirt in the deep road only crossed over because of all the death that happens not because the dwarves help them to cross over.

Fade can be a very large area where there is a high possibility that a deamer may not meet another dreamer. Also may be because Qunari dream differently than humans and elves, we can't see them in Fade. May be their mages' connection is different from humans and elves.
Here's a thought that no one has brought up: The dwarves turned the Golden City Black and created the Darkspawn.
Why did the Darkspawn originate in the Deep Roads instead of the surface? I say the dwarves started experimenting with red lyrium and used it to force themselves into the Fade and when they got their the red lyrium they were using curropted the city turning black and turning those dwarves into the first Darkspawn. That explains why the Darkspawn started in the Deeproads because that's where the dwarves where when they entered the fade and came back from now newly tainted.

But Corypheus himself speaks of it as being Golden, and he comes from before the time of the Chantry.
This is where It confuses me. How would anyone have known it was truly Golden without actually being there in person? And if someone did go there in person how did they not corrupt it with their presence? Corypheus said it was golden but how would he have known for sure in the first place. He wasn't very clear when he said that, did he see it as golden and then as they walked through it turned black? And then there's the possibility it was just gold on the outside and black on the inside, some kind of Old God trap.
It can be seen from everywhere in the Fade. It is always visible, no matter where you are. So one presumes that for all the years previous to the Magisters attempt, when they looked at it they saw a city of gold. Afterwards, it was black. This is where It confuses me. How would anyone have known it was truly Golden without actually being there in person? And if someone did go there in person how did they not corrupt it with their presence?
We do see elves in the fade.
I... what? I don't follow how that relates to what I said.

Magic works the same way for everyone. It's WOG. Same with the Fade stuff.

He was told it was Golden but it turnout to be black. That means he though he was going to the golden city, not that he knew or saw it was gold.

We seen Elves in the fade and humans in the fade. Dwarves only go to the fade if they are forced to...No qunari has been seen in the fade unless they were force to like dwarves.
He was told it was Golden but it turnout to be black. That means he though he was going to the golden city, not that he knew or saw it was gold.
Then why would he have expected it to be gold? People can see the Black City from the Fade now. And it looks black.
A serious lack of janitors.
The City isn't black it's just very dirty.
I turn it black cause gold was so boring so i decided to give it more edgy look to it got a problem with it

Then why would he have expected it to be gold? People can see the Black City from the Fade now. And it looks black.
Because he was told by Dumar it would be golden. Why are you assuming the city could be seen before the magister went their?
Because the Black City is visible now. It's the same place. How could they get there without seeing it?
It was supposed to be golden! It was supposed to be ours!......I loved that line ![]()

We've never met another elf in the Fade. We've only met Feynriel in the Fade, and he was drawn in there by demons. Similar to how that mage in the DA:O Broken Circle quest was drawn in. I don't know what you're talking about with us seeing humans and elves in the Fade, because that's simply never happened in-game.
And we've never even met a qunari beside Sten as a party member, but outside of that, it is 100% established and completely undeniable lore that all mages have the same connection with the Fade.
You've been going to the wrong side of the fade if you've never seen a qunari.
And besides, qunari just don't let you in their secret hangout. That's for the cooler people, and obviously elves and humans are way too lame.
And the Black City is for losers.

But do have the elves say they dream. It's part other their mythos. Qunari say they dram the same way humans and elves do. It not something to lie about.
Because the Black City is visible now. It's the same place. How could they get there without seeing it?
The same why the can cross the veil. They don't need to see it to try to get to it. Heck, we can see it now and we can't get to it.
20,000 girls.
So you're suggesting that it was invisible for some reason? Why would that change because the Magisters visited it? Mages interact with the fade all the time. It's not a mystery or a secret like the city at the center of the Fade. It makes no sense the Magisters would try to attain the power of the gods by breaching the city at the centre of the fade that they couldn't see or find.
EDIT: Actually nevermind all that. World of Thedas says outright that the Ancient Tevinter Magisters thought that the Golden City was the center of the Old Gods' power.
Personally, I think the City in the Fade was a container for the taint. That is why it is at the center of the Fade away from everything. so that stuff isn't tainted.
One thing we need to remember about the Fade is that it isn't constant. The fade is shaped by the thoughts of people, demons, and spirits. When Rhys is in the Fade he gives meat to a spirit emulating a cat. He states that he created the meat out of nothing. Thought influences the fade. So there is some massive structure at the center of the fade for everyone, at some point people attach a belief that it contains something valuable, and in an attempt to emulate that something makes the city golden, or the belief of value makes it golden.
Once the City is reached, the Magisters see the city for what it really is. It isn't the throne of the Maker, it doesn't contain power, it contains the taint. That truth and realization is what made the city Black. It wasn't sin, there is no indication that being a bad person influences the fade. I don't think sin blackened the City, it was subconsciously done when the Magisters saw that there was nothing there but the taint.
