It would just have been much better if we could max lvl60 on two playthroughs, three is just too much.

Oh well...

I'm in exactly the same boat as you.  Finished on 59 after my second playthrough after doing EVERYTHING and getting it just how I wanted it for ME2.

I'm not that fussed though, apparently the jump in bonuses (for ME2) from 59 to 60 isn't that much.

I felt so lucky hitting 60 while walking up the outside of the citadel tower. That being said, I NEVER got out of the MAKO to make kills on either of my playthroughs....i simply did everything possible both times (at least I visited/scanned all the planets, went to all the map markers).

What is the value in getting to Lvl 60?

More benefits to your character/ship for your imported character. Also, if you completed a second run through to get to 60 you also had the chance to get both Paragon and Renegade to 100%, and one of the Bioware staff said in the Xfire Q&A that you will get some benefits from having done that as well.

my first play through I only hit lvl 50 and have 100% paragon.  I want to do a 2nd play through at 100% renegade.  Should I create a new character for my Renegade or use my first character and try and get to lvl 60?

what is the import difference for ME2 of a Character that is 100% Paragon OR Renegade on a single play through vs a character that is 100% Paragon AND Renegade on a 2nd playthrough?

You will NOT get to Lvl 60 from lvl 50. I really, really, really don't think it's possible. I beat the game once, started a new character, got him to lvl 56, and then did NG+ with him and barely hit 60. I think the lowest you can be and still hit 60 is 54ish MAYBE...if you do everything and get out of the MAKO. That being said, I did have double buffs (both for completing the game once and also for beating it twice).

60 requires 3 playthroughs.

is it better to do a play through on a lower diff level? It would be nice to have the achievement, but I'm more interested in having the best character for ME2 and ME3.

Just to confirm something if didn't make it clear in my initial post. The character am taking on the NG+ is my Renegade, before I completed my initial playthrough with my Renegade, I completed the game with a seperate Paragon Shep, so whilst my Renegade still capped at 50, I think when I started NG+ they got boosted to some higher level? Anyway right now I've just saved game after finally moving on to Noveria and just accepted quest from Opold. Am just under 30k away from 59, with Noveria, Virimire, Therum, Ilos and Final battle to do with only a couple of sidequests left remaining and BDtS completed (turrets were mostly giving me 1k xp each on that rock on foot :D )

So am really thinking I'll get to 60 now :)

When it comes to the listening posts, is it best to hook the mako upto the cannons or not?

Hmmm, so from what I'm reading here my only hope to completing a 60 playthrough on my second playthrough for a given character is to use my lvl 54 Vanguard and do all the sidequests?

Question then, would I be able to hit 60 if I did 2 additional playthroughs on my 50 Sentinel (male Shep) and pretty much only did the main quest line and the Asari Diplomacy sidequest would the 2 playthroughs make it? I'm desperately trying to minimize the Mako madness.

Well, you might be able to do both...you'd have to try really hard to get to lvl 60 with just a lvl 54 (i.e. get out of the MAKO to kill everything, open every chest, do every quest and explore everything), though for the last bit, I'd say why bother just doing the main quests? Sure, do the main quests on your second run (cuz that one won't really count) and you should probably hit 56-58, but on the third do most of the sidequests. I say this just because a lot more stuff carries over than main quests and asari diplomacy. The only reason they mention Asari Diplomacy is that Nasana (or whatever the Asari lady's name is) is an antagonist on the planet you get Thane from (she can be seen in trailers). I'm sure there are other side quests that will matter. For all we know, Major Kyle may make a return appearance, and do you really want the ME universe to assume you were lazy?

That being said, if you were planning on playing the other character in the same style (Paragon/Renegade, same choices), i'd say you don't need to do it, cuz you can change your class/appearance in ME2.

OK, so on my 50 Sentinel Shep it will definately take 2 more play throughs. I guess I'll take him through the main quests with a full Renegade so that on my third he's all paragon.

On femShep (Vanguard 54) I can make it in one run doing everything on foot. Ugh, I really hate some of those planets.

I'm currently at 59 with about 120K left to go for 60 on my 2nd playthru (finished first PT at 56 on Hardcore). 2nd PT is fuly on HC and I've made every attempt to kill things on foot (tho, I have made some kills via the Mako at times...but not many).

I'm just about to finish the final Geth Invasion mission (Tali's sidequest) and then I will have done EVERYTHING before Virmire (collecitons, every planet, all quests, BDtS, no PS yet). I'm not sure there is enough XP between Vimire and the final fight to put me to 60....I really DON'T want to do PS, but I'm thinking I may be forced to do a few of the easier VI missions there to get to 60.

From looking at the ME2 import bonus between 59 & 60 (1 intial level?)....I'm not sure this is worth it (tho I'm so close with this character that I intend to follow thru).  I doubt I'll even make the attempt to to go beyond LVL 50 with any of my other characters (that I am still working on PT1 right now), as the bonuses don't seem to be worth it.

Don't do Everything on foot, just when you come to enemies, get out and shoot them. I could only imagine how long it would take to beat the game if you didn't have the MAKO and did all the side quests....maybe 70 hours...of which 45 are just aimlessly running around barren planets.

Yeah when people say killing things on foot they don't mean running around the whole planet on foot too.

Ugh, reminds me of a situation I had in this current playthrough where was on Rayingri and I'd just come out of the geth infested outpost and of course got ambushed by some spawning from a drop ship. Like an idiot I sidestepped straight down cliff edge and had to run all the way around on foot to get back up to the top to kill the remaining geth (and get back to the mako), urgh... that was so annoying, specially as I ran the long way around and didn't realise till bout half way round (which point it was best to keep going).

Sorry for the confusion, I meant killing on foot, not exploring on foot... on some of the more jagged terrain there is no way I could manage on foot.

so after you unlock the 51-60, do you have to play though on a harder setting to get to 60? or is it just play it and you get xp to turn 60? and will it say 58 etc when you turn those lvls?

1st playthrough on Hardcore or Insanity level doing all sidequests etc.
NG+ Playthrough on Insanity level should get you to level 60 easy even without doing all the sidequests etc.

Count me in this group too! I'm 30k xp away from 60 and I have no desire to play through the game for a third time after I just completed everything the way I want it to be. I sure hope there isn't some dumb achievement for importing a lvl 60 into ME2, otherwise I'm gonna be forced to playthrough again and after beating ME1 more times then I have fingers, the thought of doing it again for a measly 30k xp is beyond asanine...

See my above post you really need to play it on the higher difficulty levels to get a lvl 60. Its no joyride through the park mind you.

The only quests am not intending on doing is Asari Diplomacy (want to see how not doing it may affect ME2) and whilst I currently have Wrex's family armor, I haven't actually recruited him and intend not to. But everything else I

you should probably just do this quest anyway because *ME2 SPOILER*

Nassana gets killed by THane anyway. All she does if she recognizes you is accusse you of being the assassin because u killed her sister. If you don't do the mission she'll probably just not recognize you and then get shot anyway.

Level 60 is another achievement I don't have yet. Some questions:
1) Does increased difficulty yield more XP?
2) In this thread I've read frequently about shooting stuff "on foot". Does that mean that more XP are granted than killing stuff with the MAKO?

There's a small xp penalty for killing things in the Mako, you can use it to soften them up and kill them on foot for full xp but if you kill them with the MAKO you do suffer a penalty.  Not sure about XP increasing with difficulty.  It's possible but I've never really paid much attention to individual xp gains.

Also for people trying to reach 60 don't forget you get experience for opening containers.

Small?

You get 3x exp for killing stuff outside the mako.

And exp doesn't technically increase per kill... but i think there may be more bad guys to kill on harder difficulties.

Is it worth going back & completing all side quests in ME1 if you already completed it just for the sake of importing your player save files into ME2. I've only completed 50% of the side quests and finished the game for the 5th time last weekend.

U don't get extra experience for Hardcore or Insanity.....so it doesn't really matter. I honestly don't know if anyone has gotten to 60 without playing at least 3 times, not necessarily the same for the first playthrough as the last 2. For example, you could get one Shep to 50 the first time, then (with lvl cap off and xp bonuses on) you could play as another Shep and get them to lvl 55-57ish, and then play as the second shep to get them to lvl 60. The jump from 50 to 60 is about 630,000 xp...a large step considering most enemies give you about 200 xp and most sidequests only give you about 2,000 xp.

Well having done Noveria and a couple of other sidequests, am now about 131k away from 60. Still got Virimire, Therum, Ilos and final battle to complete as well as a few sidequests (all collection ones are now completed). So this character has a good chance of proving that you can take a character to 60 in 2 runthroughs. Considering that at my last update having just got to Noveria I was 30k away from 59 and so I've obviously just got about 100k since then. I think that is why I am correct in my assumption.

It is possible to reach level 60 in two play through. I did by doing all the side quests and the two dlc's minus the collection side quests. I reached level 60 toward the end of Ilos near the trench run. I also killed everything on foot; no mako kills.

It took me 2 FULL playthrough (with FULL I mean do EVERY sidequest existant, every material or disk or insigna even if you've already completed the UNC quest) to get 60, and I got level 60 right before the entrance to the council level in the end of the game.
