Has it been confirmed that the Dalish still have Welsh/Irish accents?  I'm just a bit concerned about this because I was strongly considering playing as an Elven Inquisitor but now I'm hesitant given the two voice options we are given in the CC conflict with the established lore.

It might feel odd if we meet up with the Dalish and my Inquisitor sounds significantly different.

Theoretically, they could go back to Dalish having American accents, as in DAO. It might actually make more sense that way, because the alternative is for the Dalish to sound closer to common human English accents than the city elves do.

The lore has fluctuated a bit, so it isn't really against lore - this is the second time the elves have been 'revamped', after all.The accents for the Dalish in general haven't been confirmed, but given the choice between the British and States accent, I'm guessing the clans are going to have more varied accents.

Some elves will still have Welsh acccents, according to the Raptr Q&A.

I guess you could headcanon that your Inquisitior is like Merrill and originally came from a different region than the others.

Well, there already seems to be some accent diversity among the Dalish with Merrill and the rest of her clan, so the Inquisitor being from some other clan with a different accent isn't too much of a stretch.

I was going to headcanon my elf as Tevinter in origin and ran away to be with the Dalish.  This would explain using the 'British' voice set.

That would be a cleaner explanation. And provides some wiggle room for not having a strictly Dalish perspective on certain issues. Might have to borrow that! :)

Right :)

Q: Do Dalish elves still possess the Irish and Welsh accent, like they did in DA2? and if they do can your inquisitor have it?
A: We do use Welsh for some elves. Not the player elf, however (MD)

There are Dalish clans near Tevinter, so your character wouldn't have to run that far.

I'm likely going to use the British accent as well, but I intend to make my character look ethnically Antivan; Zevran mentioned the Dalish in Antiva City were dangerous, which isn't surprising considering the kind of place Antiva is.

I've always viewed the Dalish Clans having different accents based on the region they're in

Yeah, I've always thought that as well. The clans are pretty separate for the safety of the Dalish as a whole, It's easy to assume their accents would differ from clan to clan.

I was planning on using American for my Dalish elf as a throwback to the older games. I tended to prefer the DAO elf accents anyway.

I think the easiest way to explain it is as they did for Merrill.   Her accent was different from the rest because she originally came from a different clan.   So our Dalish Inquisitor can have a different accent from others they meet in game, because they are from a different clan.   The only thing that would be odd is if you have a scene with your own clan and they all speak with a different accent from you.     I am happy with any of the voice actors we have been given.

Solas is apparently Welsh, which doesn't really fit the accent lore.

Are we sure there is such a thing as a "Dalish Accent?" They are spread all across Thedas in small clans... wouldn't that result in many different accents?

I'm increasingly feeling like they've just given up on accents.

Yup, take the Irish accent for example, tiny nation but we have so many different accents county to county.

I thought the Irish accents were the result of being at the Free Marches and blah, but I'm a firm believer that both City and Dalish elves simply adopt their accent depending on their region like humans do.

Even if Solas has a welsh accent I don't mind, i love male accents xD But yeah, accents are still confusing to me. Kind of like how Rivain is supposed to be Spain-based while Antiva is like a mix of both? @_@

Either way I'm gonna roll American, A for Jon Curry and B for a throwback to the clans found in Ferelden in DAO.

Kinda odd that exact clan was American in DA:O, though. Totally screwed with my immersion right there.
