So, who sat down and thought that it was acceptable to have ONLY  a head and and chest slot for equipment on everyone including the PC?

Is there an explanation for this, because Jesus Christ is that a huge blunder in my book.2WOYSK6.png

Boots and gloves aren't gone, they still exist. You can swap out (upgrade) armor with separate boots and gloves.

Re-posting this since some people must have missed it on page 3. Perhaps the OP can include the quote on the original post.

Thanks.

Hey all,

To clear things up. A suite of armor can be modified with separate boots and gloves in our crafting system, that's why you see only one slot, it's all combined. The same goes for weapons where you can change the hilt, blade etc. We'll go into crafting and loot in a lot more depth later on.

Bioware likes a streamlined look to things, so it seems like they dumbed down the inventory screen to appeal to more casual gamers who aren't going to spend much time customizing every detail. Then they force the true RPG fans to go through a bunch of extra steps (like an entirely separate crafting mechanic, which includes having to find new materials just to change boots!) in order to attain the level of customization we want. It just seems like a hassle in an attempt to make things more "user friendly". But I'll wait and see what it's like when they finally reveal it.

Please don't get into "true RPG fan" comments (I consider myself one too) as they derail.

Having said that, I have to admit that in my RPG experiences swapping out boots consistently wasn't something that I typically did.  Is this a regularly common occurrence for you?

Boots were rather 50-50 when it came to rpgs, I think. You got lots of them in the Might and Magic games, and the Ultima games, but not so many in the baldur ones. The same goes for gloves, I suppose.

I'm most familiar with Ultima 6 and 7 (and Serpent Isle) and aside from "am I wearing swamp boots" it wasn't something that I swapped out all that frequently.

In general though, I'm not sure how frequently I swap out any of my inventory pieces really.  Even in Might and Magic 3.

I'm more referring to the perceived inconvenience about not being able to swap out boots at one's convenience for customization purposes.

Haha oh boy... is it necessary to patronize/belittle someone for expressing their opinion?

I'm actually genuinely asking you how often it happens, though I can understand that my words can be seen as snide - so sorry for that.  The impression I get from your post is that you swap your boots a lot.  Now a lot of people use hyperbole to prove a point, so I was trying to determine if this was the case, or if there is something here that I'm missing.

For example, I've seen people complain about a feature they never used simply because of a perceived lack of agency because they simply liked having the idea that they *could* do something, but now definitively can't.

I find changing individual bits of armour/gear helpful in games to make optimum equipment layouts, maybe I want leather gloves that give extra crit for my DPS warrior over plate gloves with stamina

That's fair.  Are there concerns about Cameron's update that makes you think this won't be the case?

Those sort of details are best served for crafting reveal. Though the concern noted is something that could still exist with separate boots inventory as it would depend on what attributes we put on it.

Hmm won't magic boots and gloves be lacking? I mean if I play as a warrior, he has no way of using magic to make magical boots and gloves for his armour.

I'm just reframing your question to make sure I understand it.  Are you concerned that a warrior and mage will have different crafting options?

I am worried that I won't get any magical boots of gloves if I play as a warrior or rogue. Since those two can't use magic and wouldn't be able to craft things with magic.

Different crafting options is not a concern at all.

Well, it is a concern, if you think that the options means that you'll be denied certain things that only some classes will be able to get.

Though I wouldn't worry about that.
