Splinter Cell Blacklist is the best stealth game ever created. This game manages to make you feel like the ultimate operative like no other and I would love to see some of it's mechanics to be added to Mass Effect.

You seriously need to play any of the Metal Gear Solid games if you think SCB is the best stealth game ever created.

Metal Gear Solid.

That game that made me say: "Just gotta pass this section and then we can go eat" to my then girlfriend.
90 minutes later the cutscene came to an end.

That's Kojima for you. Still, the depth of the stealth gameplay in the series is completely unparalleled.

EDIT: Well aside from the early games in the Thief series.

Even if they just  add a stealth kill feature if they don't make a stealth or assassin class. Something similar to Wolfenstein would be nice variety of attacks depending on your angle or how many knives you have equipped. Great idea OP.

It is, but whenever I hear MGS now I mostly just think about the cutscenes longer than an average movie.

Stealth mechanics wouldn't be impossible to implement. It wouldn't work like a typical stealth game, like Splinter Cell, though. It can't, with the action oriented squad based combat system.

However, I think a system involving backstabs would work. Like, if you get behind an enemy and heavy melee, you should get a special kill animation. Different classes could make this work in different ways. Infiltrators can obviously stealth behind enemies and nab them. Engineers could use their drones to draw attention allowing you to get behind enemies and backstab them. Vanguards might take an upgrade that allows them to charge directly behind an enemy instead of in front of them. Soldiers can obviously use bullet time to maneuver around enemies and get behind them. Sentinels can stun with tech armor allowing them to move in for the backstab. Adepts can use their singularities to hold enemies in place while they move for the backstab.

It would reward players for playing smart and would open up the chance for some very rewarding kills. And each class could have their own unique kill animation, right?

Soldiers can backstab with the omni-blade.

Infiltrators get to neck snap.

Vanguards get a biotic neck snap.

Adepts use both hands and biotics to cave in the enemy's head (think Red Viper vs. The Mountain).

Engineers might plant a bomb on their heads then kick them away and let it explode.

And Sentinels could decapitate with both ombi-blades.

Again, it wouldn't be steal per se, but it would be a cool mechanic and for Infiltrators, it WOULD really play to the idea of being a stealthy assassin.

I can't really fault you for that, Kojima have been going progressively more nuts with the content and length of his cutscenes over the years. I'm just hoping MGSV: Phantom Pain isn't 10% gameplay and 90% cutscenes the same way MGS4 was.

Dude no offense and I mean really no offense, since I've played MGS4 it is a disaster, Snake can't fight to save his life during gameplay he only does two punches and a kick, no speed nor agility, and he won't survive in a fight because of stress levels kill you if you killing too many people which is so stupid. And the game itself is so childish and immature, no subtlety, and the storyline is a wreck. I mean they have different names, confused story of who's who and what you are fighting, and the acting is so horrible it should not deserve a 10 in the reviews. At least Sam Fisher as old as he is, he can hold on his own and kill either with his hands, gun or knife efficiently and quickly and he can handle any situation during missions and versatile in gameplay. But I've seen MGSV @ youtube and it seems they finally improving gameplay but one of the few things that is nerve-wracking is the balloons where you hide bodies and their dialouge is so over the top and over-exaggerating.

Another example of a potential Infiltrator class style and a faction of joining a Black Operations unit (to BioWare)

Gonna disagree on that. During the MGS vs Splinter Cell vs Tenchu wars, I was a MGS guy, but SC had way better mechanics. It feels more in depth and gives more stealth options (not just tip toeing around everything after headshotting dudes with a tranq).

on a side note, the idea of an infiltrator getting a over-cover neck snap grab is freaking awesome.

It would make for an awesome spinoff standalone game with a younger Thane Krios.

Nope. But you seriously need to understand that people see different things than you do.

This is what a squad based stealth mechanics should be like, but it can be optional like on Skyrim that if you get caught, you'll never compromise the mission.

I used to think the same thing until I actually played Splinter Cell.

MGS is nowhere near in depth. If Phantom Pain was more than "sneak in and kidnap/assassinate/rescue this guy/intel" then I'd say it's a damn fine stealth title. My god how the mighty have fallen...

I would rather that they allow for stealth options in parts of a mission rather than have entire missions based on stealth. In the two games I have played where stealth is a big part of the game play -- Splinter Cell Blacklist and Watchdogs -- it seems like the only way they can offer you a challenge is by putting you into a situation with little on no knowledge beforehand. This is not the way you would think a straight stealth operation would go. In most cases in the real world in the modern era, barring an desperate situation - a hail mary / suicide type of mission -- you would have detailed maps of the area, information about guard positions and even photos of key areas.

At the same time the guards in these games are often amazingly stupid. Basically the mechanics in most stealth focused games are weird and artificial.
