Use it if you wish but it's not really any more accurate than anything else because it is completely out dated and almost forgotten.

No, you just like to go against anything that's technical in nature, be it proof or accuracy. That is your wish. And I say the same to you. Use Qunari if you wish, just don't impose it on others next time as the "true way", like how you sparked this argument.

Well you can only be Jewish by birth so not entirely comparable

Like the fictional Qunari the word Jewish can refer to either an ethnic group or a religion. A person who is not of Jewish ethnicity but practices Judaism, is Jewish as well.

Like the fictional Qunari Jewish people are an ethnoreligious group, and the word Jewish can refer to either an ethnic group or a religion. A person who is not of Jewish ethnicity but practices Judaism, is Jewish as well.

So one can be an atheist Jew? Uh... Sure.

Um you were the one who was saying one way was correct and the other was not, that is why i responded to you in the first place. Obviously I favor one over the other but I don't think either is correct. I just think it makes more sense to say qunari and it's less confusing.

Why do you feel the need to constantly straw-man me? It doesn't make me want to see things your way it's just irritating.

According to Mary's tweet on this page, Kossith refers to the old Qunari culture that predates the Qun. It may not even refer to their race.

So in short, we don't know how appropriate (if at all) that word is to describe the Qunari race.

My understanding of the word Kossith is that would be the equivalent of the word Gaul. 2,000 years ago the region we now know call France was known as Gaul, and its inhabitants Gauls. Short of the occasional use of the word 'Gallic' to describe something of French character, we don't really refer to the modern people of France as Gauls. Like the word Kossith, it is an archaic word that refers specifically to the ancient inhabitants of that region, who had a very different culture and language than their modern descendants.

Or to compare it to another word in the Dragon Age universe, it is a bit like the word 'Alamarri.' The people of Ferelden are descended from Alamarri barbarians, but no one refers to the people of Ferelden as Alamarri. That word is only used to refer to the ancient polytheistic (and early Andrastean) barbarians.

No, you just completely ignored what I said in my first post and decided to argue with me. Now you accuse me of using straw-man. Please just stop, I'm done here.

So, is that the name of the race, or what?  Because I don't care what the writers say, we need a name for these people, for clarity's sake.  I get that "Kossith" is apparently not it, but "Vashoth" makes sense.  "Grey Ones" matches their skin tone, and it stands to reason that the Qunari would not want to be known by that name, since, to them, race is secondary, at best, and the Tal-Vashoth have appropriated the word as a protest of the Qun.

Term equivilants for easy understanding.

Kossith = Homo Sapiens, nobody uses this word unless they absolutely have to.

Qunari = People, it is both their religion and their identity

Vashoth = Heretic, they were people but stopped being people

Tal Vashoth = Criminals, they decided to hurt/kill people for a living

This is what you said.

"This is from another thread I posted in. Use Kossith if you want. It's more accurate than Qunari. "

It seems the fact that it is not wrong as proven with the use of the word in the World of Thedas, constantly flies over your head. The word can be used to denote the race. Qunari remains inaccurate.

That's what I responded to. How is that not you saying that Kossith is correct and Qunari is not?

I thought that was your position because that is what you have been saying the entire time. Are you just joking or something? You have been straw manning me for like half the argument. Do you want me to count the times I had to clarify my position only for you to completely ignore that?

Welcome to the internet, where civil debates with honesty and integrity are mere theoretical exercises, and the true way to win is the scream loud, misconstrue like a madman, and yell obscenities until the other person relents.

I don't quite understand the arguments made for using the name Kossith over Qunari. Bioware and the game seem to both refer to the horned race as Qunari. We can play as Qunari they have told us and shown us many times by now, so why call them Kossith instead? The game will likely mention the playable race as being Qunari, so there is really no need to use any other word to denote the race. It is like insisting Asians should be called Orientals because otherwise it is too confusing.

I was responding to your accusations of mine being strawman.

And that is my position about the two words because Qunari is technically incorrect! I wasn't accusing people of being wrong at all. Seriously? Do you understand the meaning of the term technical? Are you really having such a hard time comprehending what I said? It's funny you should say that you've been clarifying your position all this time since that is exactly what I was trying to do so far, in vain it seems. Here is your first response to my post including the assumptions you accumulated with it.

The fact that the writers themselves have said that it is wrong is apparently irrelevant to you people.  <_<

You are allowed to use Kossith, they don't mind as long as you don't tell other people they are wrong for not using it (which you just did)

My quotes of WoT is what you completely and so conveniently ignored to deliver your opinion while assuming that I'm somehow accusing others for being wrong to use "Qunari", which started the argument. Hypocritical much?

I was responding to your accusations of mine being strawman.

You were straw manning me though, you constantly claimed that I was arguing that Qunari was an accurate name for the race when I never argued that and said that was not what I was saying several times. I was just arguing that it was acceptable to call them that and that Kossith was not more accurate because (well you know why). That is straw manning, I originally assumed it was not deliberate but then you kept on doing it and it got incredibly irritating.

And that is my position about the two words because Qunari is technically incorrect! I wasn't accusing people of being wrong at all. Seriously? Do you understand the meaning of the term technical?

You claim one way is correct and one way is not, that's fine but then you accused me of "imposing the true way" which sounds allot more like what you were arguing. I never said people couldn't say kossith, I just personally thought it was a bad idea because of all those reasons I gave you. I pointed out many times that the devs don't mind if you use it and that I base my position on what they have said about it (not just Gaider btw).

I didn't ignore it I didn't think it was important because of how much discussion there had been on the subject and because it did not change the fact that the term was not used at all. I have also already told you this in at least one of my responses to you.

My first comment to you was merely to point out that the devs themselves felt that the term was incorrect and would rather people stopped telling others that it was the correct term. I don't see how that is a dishonest response to your post?

Then you started with the whole one is right one is wrong thing so I kept responding.

So one can be an atheist Jew? Uh... Sure.

Uh...yes, they can.

Let me requote from Faerunner's excellent post on page 2 for you:

Judaism is filled with blurred lines too.

It's VERY common for people who self-identify as Jewish to clarify what they mean by that. To explain whether they're just genetically Jewish, "culturally Jewish," and/or followers of the religion. "My mom/dad is Jewish," "My parents are Jewish but I'm not," "I was raised Jewish but don't practice anymore," "I got Bar/Bat-Mitzvahed but haven't gone to synagogue since," "I'm culturally but not religiously Jewish," "I converted to Judaism," and so on and so forth.

and...

It all depends on who you ask. Jewish people themselves don't all agree on what it means to be Jewish. Jewish scholars, historians, sociologists, religious leaders, etc. are debating to this day. You'll get a different answer depending on who you ask. Some people say all you need is a Jewish mom, some will say a Jewish parent of either gender (even though Jewish "blood" is often considered matralinial), you just need to get your Bar or Bat-Mitzvah, some day you just need to celebrate the occasional holiday (like one day of Hanukah a year), some will say you have to attend synagogue and observe every holiday (even the unfun ones), and some have different ideas of how much of the religion you have to follow. Some Orthodox Jews look down Conservative and Reformed Jews as "not real Jews" because they don't follow the Talmud to the letter, etc.

Like I said, it is confusing.
