Strange game.  The only winning move is...not to play.

But the demons are the major threat here.  What if the Inquisitor wants to focus on them first?

I guess I could always mow anyone down that gets in my way, so perhaps both the mages and elves will meet my blades in the end.

Turnips would be more apt, less tasty though...

Neither. There are bad and good in both groups. Both are oppressed, both have innocents, but both sides are made up of fallible beings. Personally, it wouldn't be down to elves/mages for me. It would be based on the people who deserve to be saved, which who I would help if the chance was presented to me. The ones who are set on fighting and/or killing the other side can just do their thing, I don't wanna be involved.

You can't make s'mores with those.

Murk the mages if I can't convince them to back down and let the elves be

I wonder which side would win, story-wise, if the Inquisitor were to simply let them tear each other apart and mop up afterwards.

In this particular case, I think it would be the mages since they seems organised in groups who attack defenseless elves. I think it's suggested during the video that those groups of mages are led by the magister who took the Redcliffe castle as base of operation (I forgot his name, Alexius?).

I guess that those groups of mages are for the Mages what the red templar are for the Templars.

Well, I wasn't clear enough sorry. I was only referring to the situation shown in the E3 demo and wondered what would happen to those elves if the Inquisitor don't pick à side in this particular case. ;)

Well, it seems the mages are the aggressors in this scenario, I guess I'll be putting them down, hard.

I believe the Tevinters come later in the game if you take certain decisions.

These in the demo were described as "apostates" by the people of Redcliff altough that might not be, of course, 100% accurate.

I have a bad feeling it's going to turn into a "But Thou Must" situation, and the player is going to have to choose.

Ah, but what if the elves or others have forced their hand? We must take into account that the mages are in a desperate situation and thus, their actions may be justified.

Mages! Burn the knife-ears!

Burn the witch!! She turned me into a newt!

But really; Side with the Elves over the mages. Look at the destruction the mages cause; Tevinter. Ferelden Tower. Kirkwall. Every time we encounter them, something bad happens. Even if the majority of mages are good, it only takes one mage to blow up an entire town. They need to be dealt with, and if killing elves or mages on sight are my only options... I'm going to kill mages.

This is true. At least when the Elves do something stupid, they only end up getting themselves killed. When mages lose the plot, everyone's at risk.

I don't see elven families voluntarily tangling with rebel mage groups.

I find this thread to be slightly in bad taste.

In this circumstance I think elves seems like the most reasonable option.

Maybe. I theorised that, since Tevinter is not particularly in a good term with its neighbours, they probably rejoiced to learn that the mages rebelled to get their freedom. So, I think that Tevinter possibly tried very soon to participate and support this revolt, either directly or more discreetly.

Also, all the mages that revolted or fled the circles should be called "apostate". And since they don't share a hive mind, I'm expecting to witness some dissension between them. Soooo I think that it's possible that a (small?) part of them have accepted the help of Tevinter ( if Tevinter proposed its help in the first place, of course). And that they organized themselves around this Tevinter guy in Redcliff.

Technically, all mages outside Tevinter are apostates at this point. Not all of them will be involved with the war - some former Circle mages are likely to have taken off, and I suspect a large number of mages who were never part of the Circle to begin with just won't be invested in the conflict.

"Mages vs Elves" isn't even a thing, unless one willingly ignores the context of the situation that produced said quote.

I'll do something similar to what Heihachi Mishima did with Kazuya. Toss both of their representatives off of a cliff. Whoever survives and climbs back up will receive my Inquisitor's seal of approval.

Brilliant. We must do the same with Gaspard and Celene. It will prove they have the strength needed to lead Orlais.

But then you'll awaken the devil inside the survivor/s, who will devote every aspect of their being into taking their vengeance upon you.
