I posted about this in the EA help forum as well and I know that Friendship points with Carver are few and far between but for some reason he has stopped gaining them at all.  I played through for a bit and things were fine, decided to restart with a new character and for some reason dialogue choices that normally granted Carver rep no longer do so (Chastising Merrill when she summons a demon, selecting the mercenary quests to get into the city).  I tried deleting all game data and reinstalling it on the Playstation 3 but that hasn't helped.

Anyway that's the techniocal part - the character question I have is that, without having too much spoiled, I know it isn't really necessary to actually gain Carver's approval.  I decided my Hawke really deeply cares about healing the rift with his brother, but after re-playing through the first hour or so of the game something like five times I just wanted to know if I am not missing out on anything really great by leaving this glitch well enough alone.  No one else seems to be affected.

On PS3 I've chosen the diplomatic option regarding the blood magic/demons when first meeting Merrill yet Carver didn't give approval changes despite Dragon Age Wiki's claims. Same with the mercenary quest to get into the city although the Wiki says that's normal. I wouldn't trust everything it says though.

There are several conversations that change based on Carver's friendship/rivalry. In Act 2 when the qunari attack the city he is friendlie assuming he's with the Wardens. If he's a Templar I'm assuming he's a dick no matter what. In Act 3 in the Deep Roads (again, as a Warden) he is rather pleasant as a friend but a whiny ****** as a rival. Absurd too considering you haven't seen him for 3 years and that's how he greets you. In the Legacy DLC he behaves differently depending on friendship/rivalry when reminiscing about their father in that side-quest as well as their final discussion in the DLC's end.

That's it.

Use this for help.

Thanks for the link!  It was just odd to me that on my first attempt I got +5 from him for yelling at Merrill and the next time nothing.
