Actually, i was planning to play as a snarky female elf rogue for my first playthrough, as i did for Origins and countless other rpgs but when i discovered that the elves will be Dalish only, i changed my mind.

I have nothing against the Dalish but i just can't portray my character as one on them. I wanted a regular city elf origin...

So now, i'm torn between human and dwarf, reserving the Qunaris for my second playthrough. The problem is that i also have difficulty to portay nobles as a rogues and same for dwarves (and even more for Qunaris).

So i really don't know... My first charcater will be a female rogue with Alix voice, that is for sure, i just may throw a dice to choose the race...

Royals can't be rogues?

*looks at Sebastian*

Hmm...

If you're willing to do archery, I would say that using a bow is quite a "noble" fighting style.

The most famous rogue of all was nobility. Robin Hood. Or female wise, Arya Stark is the best character in Game of Thrones, if you ask me.

Yeah well, my rogues usually don't use bows. Only in elders scrolls games. So i have indeed difficulty so see my snarky female close combat rogue character to be a member of the nobility.  :P

Lots of nobles in history could be known for duelist behavior (or swashbuckling, if you will). That and poisoning people. heh

I've always played male human warrior types on my first playthroughs of RPGs that offer a choice, but I'm highly considering breaking that trend and going for a female qunari warrior for my first playthrough.

I was pretty sure about my second canon female elf, but then news changed my mind to Qunari, and I'm sure my mind will be changed again as soon as I start fiddling with the CC.

Such is life.

I know, it's just that it does not fit my roleplay. I've played this type of character since so many years that it's almost set in stone for me. And thinking more about it, i realize that my canon Warden and my Canon Hawke are also snarky female rogues.

Ah well... good luck. You still have a few months to figure it out. :)

You'll be fine. I've had no trouble making a noble duel wielding rogue in DAO. It's not too difficult. After all being a rogue is a fighting style, not a life style... If you don't want it to be. You could be a rebellious noble who likes subverting what is expected of her, you could be a rogue with no stealing or poison skills who doesn't live a rogue life style but merely uses the fighting style because it best suits them, you could be a rogue because you was secretly friends with a poor kid who was a child rogue and somehow died and your character took up a rogue style in his or her memory.

You can make it work if you really want it to.

I have rethought twice now. Originally I was all set to play a female Qunari mage, but once Cassandra was outed as a secret romantic I decided to play as a male human mage instead (since Cass is a warrior, paying a mage makes sense for a balanced party, and I didn't want to play as a male Qunari as much as a female).

I relegated my female Qunari playthrough to number 2, and decided to make her a warrior for kickass Brienne of Tarth style gender role defiance.

However, now we know Sera is a lesbian, Iron Bull is probably romanceable, and Josephine is so awesome, I'm considering paying my female Qunari warrior first! Which is weird, because I usually play mages.

People seem to think that elves are getting some kind of growthspert ( I still haven't seen it though). My canon DA:O warden is an elf, and I love playing as elves, but me personally being a tad self-conscious about my height, 5'6, 5'7, makes me just want to play as human.

If this turns out to be true, I'd probably swing on by the elf side of things again.

They have. Elves have been about as tall as humans since DA2.

Really?? How could i have not noticed that lol. I could have sworn both Fenris and Merril were shorter than Hawke, I was playing a male though, are you referring to the female size or are both genders of elves now equal to both genders of humans?

Don't entirely remember about compared to males, but I know that Merrill is as tall as FemHawke when standing side-by-side.

Well I checked and Merrill's shorter than I remember. But still, she's not as short in comparison as female elves were to female humans in Origins. Seems elves just keep getting taller with each game.

And hell, the concept art of the races in DA2 even shows them being as tall as humans.

Heh, my canon Warden and Hawke are, too! My absolute favorite playthrough of the two games so far was my female City Elf Warden. Loved, loved, loved everything about that origin and playthrough. Was thrilled when multiple races were brought back and was definitely planning on city elf again... and then, well, Dalish happened. Which is cool. The Dalish are cool. Just... I wasn't as excited anymore, so my "gotta play female elf rogue on first playthrough" itch vanished.

Totally waffling over whether I wanna play dwarf, human, Dalish, or Qunari still (will play through all eventually, of course). Argh. Female warrior is about all I have to go on at the moment and I'll probably just through myself in willy-nilly once game is in-hand.

I didn't choose the rogue life, the rogue life chose me...

I don't have much decided about my first playthrough, only gender (female) and class (mage) and there's no demo or news that could change my mind about that. I know I'll be picking most of the time the "witty" options and that I'm going to be mostly nice with everyone and go very pro-mage and pro-elf. I doubt that I could learn something about the game that could make me change my mind about that either.

The info has given me ideas though, about who might be the companions I will take with me for the most part, but I haven't changed anything because I've no idea before I met them  :P  and even now, I'm not sure about who will be the final 3 (Cass, Sera, Solas? Cass, Sera, Dorian? Cass, Solas, Dorian? IB, Solas, Dorian? IB, Sera Dorian? IB, Sera, Solas?)

That the elves are dalish has me considering playing a human.

I haven't really decided anything yet, so can't change it either. But I will *probably* end up breaking a trend and not play a warrior first, which I tend to do as a sort of "baseline" for a new game. But after seeing the Bull in action (and watching the voice actor video), he just seems like he'll be an awful lot of fun to have around. And since I like to roll with two mages, I basically have to play one until a lockbash mod comes out so I can drop the rogue for opening chests.

I'm really uncertain so far.

My original first playthrough was going to be human, female, warrior, that romanced Cullen.

...HOWEVER.

Now I'm really tempted to be a Qunari and either a mage or a rogue and go after either Blackwall or Iron Bull.

Or be a elven male, warrior, that goes after Dorian.

I CAN'T DECIDE. ;3;

I thought everyone knew this?

They're still a bit shorter then humans (maybe an inch or two at most though to be honest), but not by much.

I was going to use Varric for the most part as my rogue in the 1st play through but Sera sounds pretty tempting.  I want Cassandra as my sword and boarder.  I now have to decide whether to be a fighter or a mage.  For these games my normal group consists of two fighters a mage and a rogue.  I might have to jockey that around a bit.

I am constantly reconsidering my first playthrough.  Often so much I don't even finish my first playthrough until I've at least started a dozen others.
