I think the 200 series cards from Nvidia should be fine. Just remember that laptops are not great gaming rigs, period. So if that's your only reason for owning one, go PC.

i was thinking about a custom PC but I'm not really sure where I should go to get one built and how much a good one would cost me at the same time I really need the portability of a notebook any suggestions on how I should go about this

Well, the portability thing is what you have to weigh. I have a laptop for portability although I don't use it for gaming. Because of that, I only paid $400 for it. I game on my main PC that I custom built. Chances are you have a friend or someone out there that can build one nice and cheap for you. Otherwise, visit a local "mom and pop" type computer store in your area and ask if they offer this as a service.

Desktops are fairly easy to build yourself...all you need to make sure is you buy the right parts...parts that work together (would suggest online shopping at newegg.com). If you dont know how and dont want to learn i would suggest another online store (tigerdirect.com) where an option exists to 'build your own computer' where the people there will build a Desktop computer given the choices you made for it. Now, pricetag...if you want a computer that will run ME2 amazingly, i would probably go all out, which could easily mean $2-3k. As far as portability, if owning both a Desktop and Laptop is out of the question and gaming is a priority in your life, i would consider going Desktop but with a LCD monitor and a Micro case...

EDIT: or what hammer suggested...

as a person that plays games on both a desktop and laptop. it will run the game you will need to either turn stuff down a little or alot. and double to triple the load times for the game. also sounds will be crap get a good pair of headphones that have 5.1 surround sound in them. and remember you will be chained to a wall outlet playing a game will cut the battery life to about 45mins or less on most laptops.

best and cheapest gaming notebook is a alienware m15x for $900-$1200 but its specs are borderline recomended specs for ME2 for a DIY builder $800 you can make a quad core 9600 4gb ram and ati 4870 x2 2GB vid card easily and still have enough for a 24" monitor. you pay and extra $500 for a laptop over a desktop on avg.

That's just it...for the most powerful laptops, you are looking at $2000+ and they will be obsolete in a year or two in terms of being able to play the top games. I built my rig for under $900:

Intel Core2Duo E8500

ATI HD4890 Radeon

4gb DDR2 Ram

1 terabyte RAID 1 array

Creative Xtremegamer sound card

Windows 7 x64.

I play everything at max resolutions. If my system gets sluggish in a year, I just pop in a new graphics card or CPU/RAM combo...no need to buy a new system.

are the system requirements for me2 higher then crysis cause I have a system running crysis on high and its a labtop someone said I should see if I can run crysis smoothly and so far its running just fine right now. So I wanna know if I can run masseffect2 on the same level. I bought an xbox360 mw2 edition on friday cause I thought my computer couldn't handle it and that got the red ring yesterday so I just brought it back and someone suggested I try crysis if my system can handle that it shouldn't have any problems with masseffect2

Does your computer meet the minimum requirements for ME2? Crysis is a different game with a different engine so it isn't the best way to benchmark.

I can't help but interject here that lumping all Geforce 200s together in any way is a mistake, because the G210 is a business quality card, not a medium or high end card. I'll have to look that one up again, but I think it's pretty much just a 9300 all over again, performance-wise.

I got the same laptop, HP DV6 2154CA, and Mass Effect 2 runs just fine, no lag at all the default detected settings. It is running at 1280x720, but it looks just fine even though the screen's native resolution is 1366x768. In the configuration utility, all the other settings are 'on', 3 cinematic lights and anisotropic filtering is on default

Maybe a little bit of Anti-aliasing (AA) would be good, but I know there is an issue with ME/ME2 and AA performance. So anyways, it runs surprisingly well, and without a hitch.

However I found the Asus N61JQ-X1 on newegg.ca or newegg.com, for 50$ less (1050$ CAD) and a quad core i7 720qm, as well as a DX11 ATI 5730 1GB, a bit faster than the mobile GT230/GT240/GT250 according to notebookcheck :
www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5730.23825.0.html

However, the hard drive is only 320gb but @ 7200rpm vs the HP's 640@5400rpm, and I don't think there is a media remote either. But I think for 50$ less the quad core and DX11 card are more than worth it. Hopefully, the battery life is over 2.5hrs to get through 3 hrs lectures :P
