It's not like this is the first game where companions are bigger than your character: Wrex, Grunt, Javik, Zaalbar, Sten, Shale and etc.

Hell if you've played a dwarf in origins all companions aside from Oghren are bigger than you.

 

I agree that being tall can give you certain advantages, but that doesn't mean you can't be intimidating or frightening without it.

Iron Bull is considered pretty big, even by Qunari standards. Qunari Inquisitor will still be considered huge by the standards of other races.

Iron Bull is pretty big. If you want to be taller than him, you'll have problems with low ceilings and doorways. Probably for the best.

but back on topic, I agree with the previous mentions of he's bigger because Bioware wanted the character to be huge, as well as the clear penis envy. It's kind of sad to see male insecurities spill over fictional supporting characters in a video game. Sit around a talk about how great a fictional female characters big breasts are, then cry foul when a fictional male character is bigger and more muscular than the pc. Interesting.

Well the male will be a little bit bigger than the female and she was huge so I wouldn't worry. Iron Bull is just very very big.

Shocking to realize this, I'm sure... But sometimes people of the same race and sex are different heights. It happens. Don't worry, I'll give you a minute to let the shock wear off.

 

Real reason? Because Bioware wanted him to be the biggest party member, and that's that. Just like how they wanted Miranda to have the biggest rack and butt, it's a way of making him stand out. They can do that now that they're not longer needing to keep every member of the same race using the same basic model as each other. Character models can actually be unique now unlike back with DAO and DA2 and ME1.
