TEMPLAR.I usually play mages.
however this game looks so good I want to make a non mage inquisitor.
I cant decide between two handed templar human or a dual daggers dwarven tempest.
Any suggestions?

I thought I had narrowed it down to rogue or mage until the Guard mechanic was revealed and Cassandra reflected a dragon's ice ball in that one video. Now I think warrior may be the most fun class...dammit.
I love ranged attacks, so I'm torn between the mage and rogue. The mage is my "go to" class, and I love being an apostate. Arrrgh. I'm torn.
Tanks do seem to have an appeal with the Guard mechanic. I'm a keep it to the two class though. Touch call.

Yes, rogues look like they will be a lot of fun this time around. I will be playing as a mage, but I will probably switch to Cole or Sera pretty often... Varric's crossbow feels kind of weird because it fires so slowly, so I'll probably just let the computer handle Bianca...
Between the archery, sabotage, and subterfuge, I think that alone makes a rouge extremely deadly and effective. One can pick people off at a range at their leisure, and in some situations, undetected until it's too late.
The specializations only add to their potency. Tempest gives you elemental attacks. Assassin allows one to strike from the shadows (possibly with delayed toxins). Artificer and the traps are crazy deadly.
At the very least, if I pick a rogue, I know I won't lack for damage dealing.

....you know....I might try out the 4 mage party on a dragon, just to see how much damage I could pull off.
Oh, I am DEFINITELY doing this for at least one dragon. I'm actually pretty optimistic about it.

Djeezes, this thread has really taken off the last few days O_O I can't seem to follow it ![]()
But the more the merrier in our skill-loving corner of the bioware forum ![]()
I'm up to making 4 inquisitors now ![]()
My first will be warrior, 2-handed. second mage. Third a rogue, although I'm undecided over archery or dual daggers... foruth will be the other rogue
Ah crap, while writing this I realise I'd forgotten s&s... Normally I don't really like these types of fighters to play as, but templar seems so much fun this time around O_O I might as well make a fifth ![]()

What I find positively frightening is that one of the youtubers apparently fought it for 2 hours and managed to take it down.
So it IS possible, but lord. Can you imagine if your game froze or something in the middle of that and you had to start again?
To be clear I think he beat it in two hour by auto attacking with Solas from enough distance to not make the Dragon come on the team.I just looked and the dragon they fought was Level 17 while they were Level 13, so they were first of all extremely outmatched.

Shouldn't bugs like that be out of the system by now? ![]()
The whole 'another month' thing was about not having bugs...

It's not necessarily a bug. The Mage staff autoattack range might be longer then the dragon's movement range.Shouldn't bugs like that be out of the system by now?

You can be as pedantic as you want, it still shouldn't happen.

As far as 'bugs' go, the loophole for people to spend two hours doing autoattacks from afar should be pretty far down the list.

I think the best approach for any difficult is having an UBER TANK.
So for the Ice Dragon, a S&S warrior would make a lot of sense, since they reduce the damage they take a lot. Even if they cannot taunt, they still get the guard from the skill. With limitless resurrections, there will be a point where the dragon finally wants to eat your tank, and then you will be able to do a lot of damage since yout tank will avoid a lot of damage, and it will take the dragon a lot of time to kill it.
I dont think 4 mages is a good strat unless you are overleveled and just DPS the F out of him. Maybe its 2 hits and a mage is down. Too little time!!
With a warrior, the dragon would need a lot more hits, since you have a lot of armor, you can get some frost resistance, etc. You get a lot more hits our of a barrier too, since damage reduction applies to barrier also, being just additional health.

I'm pedantic just Because I suggested it might not be a bug

Also, what he said.

Bug, loophole, it was clear what I meant. And I see now it might've come across a bit agressively. It was not meant like that., sorry.
I would figure loopholes is also what they were trying to optimise. Especially something as gamebreaking as this. (Yes, I consider this gamebreaking, since the game is made significantly easier because of being able to achieve something through means how it was not meant to play).

If is more easier, though We don't know if it can be used outside dragon fight, and I don't understand why someone would use it since I find autoattacking with a staff from distance for hours very boring.
Though I hope they'll manage to fix it before release as well.

Ok so for some theorycrafting:
I plan to max Subterfuge if I play as a rogue and put the rest into Spec and if there's anything left it goes into the weapon trees depending on which weapon I choose to equip (I'm still on the fence on weapon selection)
If I play as a mage I will put all points into winter and dump the rest into Spec and if there's anything left it goes into either storm or spirit (on the fence between storm and spirit.)
If I play a warrior I will be playing as an off tank two hander. I will max two handed tree and put the rest into Spec and if there is anything left it goes into Vanguard or Battlemaster (on the fence between Vanguard and Battlemaster.)
I really, really like to max in just a few areas as you can tell.

I just tried my hand at a rough build and until we see all the passives/upgrades/specialisations I'm thinking:
Spirit - 2 points
Barrier
Guardian Spirit
Inferno - 8 points
Immolate + Upgrade
Flash Fire + Upgrade
Flashpoint
Pyromancer
Fire Mine + Upgrade
Winter - 7 points
Winter's Grasp + Upgrade
Winter Stillness
Ice Wall
Ice Armor
Blizzard + Upgrade
Storm - 4 points
Energy Barrage + Upgrade
Chain Lightning
Stormbringer
Knight Enchanter/Rift Mage (need more info) - 4 points
With a Spirit/Storm/Necro Dorian, Subterfuge/DD/Assassin(guessing) Cole, Two-Handed/don't know anything else about Warriors Iron Bull

So much for being able to make any build you want to.

All of you making your builds... Keep in mind that specializations have around 10 skills easily, and once they are revealed you will most likely want to get more than just 3 or 4 skill points in there... Prepare yourself to re-think your builds! ![]()

Looks like Specs have around 11: 3 Actives, 3 Active Upgrades, 4 Passives, and 1 Limit Break Focus Skill.
Normal trees seem to have 12 or 14, depending on whether they have 4 or 5 actives.

Yeah I already expect what I want to build to change a lot once the game launches.

I think a lot of money is going to be spent on respec potions. I for one will be messing around with builds as the game goes on, trying to perfect the perfect build. I will make a lot of mistakes at first, but will get stuff how I like it eventually. I'm still sticking with subterfuge though, that looks to be a really good tree overall.

Subterfuge does looks really good, but I'm liking all the rogue trees so far. I'm very attracted to that weird chain move in Sabotage, and to Poison Weapon, but by and large I'm having a lot of trouble deciding what to take, and which Spec to go for.
