The damage maybe, but the mana mechanic not. While mana was regenerating super fast and Sera was randomly dealing 2000 damage, the mehcanics behind the use of mana to cast spells was well estabilished even in PAX 2013 demo.

Damage, spell icons were different and they still had that old hand-attack animation. Perhaps you're right but until the game is out we'll just have to see.

Yeah, but maybe the passive that regenerates mana when standing still wasn't there... so I don't think it shows anything final.

 

Yes, so we know Winter has a +50% mana regeneration. How about other trees?

I believe Storm had a passive that shocked enemies that attacked you whilst casting spells, a passive that shortened cooldown time with each auto-attack and a passive that increased damage with less mana. That's off the top of my head.

Storm doesn't and Inferno... I don't think so. Those have the reduce cooldown passives. And Storm has this passive that increases your damage when your mana is decreasing...

Winter is the only one, which makes Winter very, very valuable, in my opinion.

Hmmm, maybe Static Cage to trap them, Fade Step in followed by a Blizzard?

If you read the describrtion of winter stillness it says that it enhances mana regeneration not regenerates it, so if you're not regenerating mana, it doesn't do anything (other than lowerding cds?) and its looks like you're not regenerating mana while channeling spells.

Well... Inferno has a passive that removes cooldown on the next spell after you score a critical hit... and another that shaves 1 second off all cooldowns.  I seem to recall one in Storm that shaves .5 seconds off cooldowns for every auto-attack (edit: just checked... yeah that's what it does).

I think it creates a circular area enemies cant leave without being paralyzed.

We won't know until we know, it seems... It's a mechanic kinda new, so we don't really know if you regenerate or not.

Yeah that one looks like a keeper too.


And interestingly works well with winter. You have a burst where you empty your quiver with CC first (since damage doesn't matter), then use your auto attack to build up damage while your mana regens to let you cast a few times, then nuke while your enemies are still imobile.

I'm not sure that's as valuable if you have bonuses that trigger on low mana. It sounds like what you really want is high regen and a lower total.

I really wish Bioware would tell us a couple of the things we could plan on summoning as a necro.  I'm scurred that we won't even be able to summon anything.  I'm scurred that we'll cast a spell called ''summon spirits'' and it will just be a visual effect placed over our target.  Scurred.

Speaking of which... do you think that the passive that increases magic damage based on the amount of mana missing affects Blizzard?  As in, the ice damage continues to increase the longer it's active?

My thinking is that if I can do a couple spells and regain some mana then I can cast blizzard for a long time, and while those enemies are frozen solid, I can hack away at them without taking any damage.

If every tick is calculated seperately, it should be. If the damage for the ticks is predetermined at the start of the cast, nope.
