Skill Trees: View and discuss DA:I's skill tress here.

Say one for sword & shield, two handed, dual daggers, archery and the mages trees?
To help keep the threads focused on one particular skill tree at a time?
Perhaps there could also be a summary of the talents etc and what they each do etc?
Not sure what people would think of this?
I know it is like me saying "can someone do the hardworking & I will reap benefit" but I just do not have the time or knowledge to do an opening post about the tree etc

Great, so it's pointless to pick more than 7-8 actives. Terrible gameplay choice imho.
P.S.: Someone has to teach me how to quote because the quote button doesn't seem to work properly.
7-8 abilities is like 2 full trees, though, which is basically all you'll have the points for anyway.

Er we'll probably have around 30 skill points. Enough for almost 3.

All Bioware said is that companions will have a spec based on their unique story.
More likely every companion will have a predetermined PC spec.
Anyone know which mage companion will be a knight enchanter?

The skill trees are like 12-14 points long. That's 2.5 at best. You'll probably end up with 11 actives or so.

Focusing on passives and upgrades might keep your actives around 8.

After today's trailer, I was truly reminded of why the mages are the supreme class.

I can block that with my shield...and I'm not even a Templar!

Yah. There's also the fact we can respec (for a fee), which means we can find skill selections that work for us.
Just glad I don't have to get three useless talents to get to Mana Clash anymore. Granted there is no Mana Clash, but given how broken it was that's probably a good thing.

Yes, the exp perks are a must have and I'm shooting for them early in the game. I might just get an extra level or so out of it which brings me to my next point.
Also with the mark of the rift tree we have we really can't choose to max many trees which is something I always like doing in games. It seems the ratio of skill points to skills available is quite low. I hope there will be plenty of other ways to get them in this game as Icy talked about. I would actually like it if I could get something around 1/3-1/2 of the available skill abilities and passives, but maybe that's just me.

One thing I noticed was the XP that's retroactive. Makes me wonder if the Codex are, doesn't say they are, but foes studied does. Ultimately means I'll save that for when I'm 20+ (probably 25+).

MAGE SUPREMACY
Thanks:D
Well my inquisitor will definitely have a storm spell or two if quizzy uses it in a cinematic

So you're saying that we would just get a bunch of exp as soon as you get it? That is one thing they would be changing in the series.

Yeah storm seems to be the most balanced in terms of cc and dmg, I'll probably roll a storm maxed character at some point. In fact I'll probably respec for maxing in all elements and spirit as well for certain fights.

Same. I was thinking of making a sort of storm sorcerer, who specialises in spells of winter and storm. Take points in spirit for barrier and whatever is left for rift mage.

Hmm i was looking at veiled riposte in the KE skill tree. If my qunari has a melee defence bonus of 10% and veiled riposte has 20% damage return, could the racial reduce the damage returned to only 10%???
No not 10%, you're still taking 90% melee damage so it would be 20% of 90% against only melee attacks. Its actually not a bad way to spec your char because it balances out the risk to reward ratio.

Thanks. Damn Qunari KE is going to be fun.
it was either that or a dalish KE and a Qunari rift mage.

But yeah it really depends on which one actually gets factored in first. If the 20% is first then you would get the full extra damage plus reduced damage done to you but I would think it is unlikely they would do it that way. What I really want to know is if I reflect a ranged attack with my spirit sword do i still get the extra 20% damage that would normally hit me and the damage done by the reflected attack. That would be awesome if it worked that way.

@UniformedGreyColor: I doubt they'd change it just cause you'd get XP. If you get just for random numbers, 50 per thing you study, and +50 bonus xp from that perk (so it's 100). There is a set number of things you can study, making it so you get less XP cause you take it late means that perk becomes less and less useful the longer you take to buy it. If it's retroactive it matters always the same regardless of when you take it.
It all depends how much you get though, if there are 100 things to Study, and you get 20 bonus xp per, that's only 2k xp which may not even be enough to lvl you late game. If it comes out enough to 'actually' level you completely by the time your 25? No reason to make it not retroactive, just reduce the XP you gain from it. Frankly I think everything should be retroactive, least stuff that can be. 10% bonus xp from kills obviously not retroactive just due to the nature of the skill, but codex entries, enemies studied? Finite number of that, should all be retroactive.

Right I just don't know if its retroactive or not.
Also here's the Archery tree:

So it looks like if I go archery for my rogue I can get longshot at least.

The knight enchanter had some cool abilities, but i'm so sad that healing is tied into that tree. Unless a companion can access KE specialization (Viviene?) then I feel like i'll have to pick that one.
but i really
really
REALLY want necromancer.
