Sorry if you thought I was referring to you! I wasn't :) I was referring to all the guys who are complaining about the impossibility of creating a Spirit Healer or some sort of supporter mage...
Yeah, static cage would rock but I was trying to avoid those who would like that type of character having to take a lot of offensive spells to get there.

No worries :) i just didn't want you to think i was complaining :(
And i really like that build.

Actually, if we can take any spell we want so long as we take the one right before it, it's possible to take Static Charge with only a single offensive ability: Energy Barrage.  Just hug the right side of the diamond and it's all passives... since that includes a passive that shocks people who try to interrupt spellcasting, this might be an interesting option for pure support mages...  Static Cage is clearly a very powerful non-damaging option since it can be used to set up combos and trap large groups of enemies.

So how about that Fade Black Hole power that Warrior Inquisitor used?

I would love to learn more about the Inquisitor's Fade powers, how we unlock them, and if they're based on Class.

Isn't that Mark of the Rift?  I think all classes can use that... the rogue had it in the recent Twitch demos.

i think you will find that is the Mark of the Rift focus power?

Also i sadly saw on the twitter thread that Cameron Lee said they had no plans on showing off all the skills :(

Wasn't there talk about a whole tree devoted to the rift powers?

Yep that's right. Definitely got to be that focus skill then :)

You're right, I hadn't thought about that... However, for me, Winter has a control feel that I'd like as a support mage (Ice wall, fade step, ice mine) :)

Anyways, I like Role playing a more direct mage, so I'll take Storm and Rift Mage :D

Um... I don't think that's the link you meant to post... it has nothing to do with Cameron Lee or skills...

Anyway, that's some sad news, but it's better to know now than keep waiting for a reveal.

Well, I was looking through the abilities to answer somebody's question about a pure suppport, no damage mage, and I will admit that Static Cage never even entered my mind... I'm guessing that Energy Barrage will be a starter spell, so unless we respec, we'll have that anyway.  Not that I'm complaining about your interest in Winter, of course... that's my favorite type of magic, but sadly it doesn't do enough damage to suit my purposes... :(

Anybody want to weigh in on which is better: Chain Lightning or Energy Barrage?  Or whether Energy Barrage can hit multiple targets?  (It has the advantage of being an eldritch detonator, but all of the gameplay videos make it seem like it only hits one target.)

I'm trying to figure out my eight mapped abilities, which is particularly difficult since I want to take skills in three trees.  Right now I'm thinking:

1. Chain Lightning or Energy Barrage

2. Lightning Bolt

3. Barrier

4. Mind Blast

5. Unknown Necromancy ability 1

6. Unknown Necromancy ability 2

7. Haste

8. Mark of the Rift

I'd go with Energy Barrage, cause you can change up the element by switching staves.

This is pretty good, but I think Chaotic Focus has the potential to get really annoying, especially on a melee character... losing half of the PC's Barrier whenever I want to cast a fire spell doesn't seem worth it... Maybe if you just had the single fire spell, but two of them means two spells that are off-limits aside from rather specific situations (such as, when you are at range and under no threat of attack, or when the off-mage's Barrier is off cooldown).  I'm really just not a big fan of that passive.

You should at least consider the Barrier upgrade so that it has the shortest possible cooldown...

Oh weird. I tried to link the response...it should be on the same page though. Silly phone of mine.

I agree too, better to know than to keep waiting for the information.

Energy Barrage is single target, but detonators seem pretty valuable... I'd take that unless one of the Necromancer actives is a detonator as well... Mind Blast is fine as a detonator so long as you don't mind getting close to the enemy.  The disadvantage is that you won't be detonating anyone across the battlefield with that...

And as Eluvianus Rex said, the ability to change elements makes Energy Barrage rather useful in a variety of situations...

Yeah! That was my idea too! Storm-Rift Mage (+Winter), but for my human mage, first playthrough. Later on, I'll make a dalish Winter-Necromancer (+Storm?) and another dalish/human with Inferno+KE+Spirit

My favourite type is Storm (well, actually keeper magic, but there's none). The storm passives are just too awesome... I'll go full Storm... I won't worry about resistant enemies as I'll have Rift mage spells, and those won't do electric damage, one would think...

Yeah, I was pretty hesitant to put it in there, so I might put the Chaotic Focus point into the Elegant Defense Upgrade.

Well, you can always test it out a bit and then respec if it's too cumbersome...

Oh yeah, since you are already taking Energy Barrage, what do you think about Conductive Current? That one boosts the damage of any spell you cast as your mana decreases...

Id say energy barrage to make the most out of an ice or fire staff (as it seems storm is your primary element).

Not much, other than that they exist in the game. We have not seen the tactics screen yet.

That's what I thought, thanks. Hopefully it gets addressed in the twitch demo tomorrow.
