Super torn on which tree will be a better fit for Vivienne and Dorian. I was leaning towards Dorian being a Winter/Necromancer and Vivienne being a Spirit/Knight Enchanter but now I kind of want to switch them. For roleplay purposes I always like each mage to be a "Master" of their respective schools & specializations first with any extra points going into more barriers/dispels/passives if there's any left over. Never hurts to have extra Dispels/Barriers not on cooldowns for tough battles, plus every mage will try and pick up any extra passives due to the Magic/Willpower +3 attribute bonuses, just seems like a good idea.

Winter seems like such a good combo for Vivienne, she can prevent someone from running away with an Ice Wall while she smacks them around with Spirit Blade. I can also see using combos of Ice Mine/Winters Grasp/Blizzard to keep her Ice Armor activated. Her freedom of movement around the battlefield will be unrivaled with Fade Step and Fade Cloak both being equippable in theory. Running away while putting up Ice Walls/Mines to cast Resurgance seems like a good idea. Maybe it'll play into her being a "Cold Biaaatch" to enemies of the Inquisition:D  With both trees maxed I believe there are 9 actives so I'd only need to cut one to have her fully loaded out. Im very pleased that Spirit Blade upgrades to deflect projectiles as well as acts as an Eldritch Detonator. Knight Enchanter's damage output seems to work well with the crowd control options Winter provides. Can't wait for that last Knight Enchanter active spell on the bottom of the tree! Please be badass.

As for Dorian, it really just pleases my roleplay/lore idea that he should be the Master of all things Spirit/Necromancer related. There are 4 actives in the Spirit Tree so I'm hoping the Necromancer Specialization has 4 more actives or I'll have to have him dive into another tree to make use of the 8 slots. Personally I'm hoping for a Hex/Debuff single target that upgrades to AOE (think Fear/Death Cloud with constant damage), Walking Bomb that upgrades to Virulent Walking Bomb,  Animate Dead equivalent, and something brand new and badass for the focus skill. He would be my "Support/Detonator" with Mindblast and Dispel both being Eldritch Detonators, as well as Walking Bomb providing an always welcome bloody explosion. Otherwise he's on Barrier and Dispel duty. Hopefully Peaceful Aura will keep most enemies away from him while he hexes/bombs the **** out of everyone. I'm hoping that the necromancer tree has badass passives that syngergize well with the spirit tree in general.

I also like the idea of having "Revive" on a different character than my Knight Enchanter just in case things go south and Vivienne goes down.

Ok. Here is me attempting what my rogue build would be, if I ever end up running a rogue.

Probably no Specialization for this guy, but may look into Assassin or Tempest. If I like Assassin, I may drop a bunch of the Sabotage talents.

Dual Daggers

-Flank Attack + Upgrade

-Twin Fangs + Upgrade

-Bloodied Prey

-Unforgiving Chain

-Bottom Right Active + Upgrade

-2 Preceding Passive before the Bottom Right Active

Sabotage

-Poisoned Weapons + Upgrade

-Fighting Dirty

-Hook and Tackle

-Looked Like It Hurt

-Cheap Shot

Subterfuge

-Stealth + Upgrade

-Evasion

-Evade + Upgrade

-Easy to Miss

-Mercy Killing

-Ambush

-Knockout Powder + Upgrade

Mapped: Flank Attack, Stealth, Evade, Twin Fangs, Mark of the Rift, Poisoned Weapons, Hook and Tackle, Knockout Power/Final Active on the right side of the Dual Daggers tree

That final dagger ability is "Deathblow."  Unfortunately we don't have any details about it other than a rather vague description that sounded like it was some kind of 2 hit combo... in any case, no specialization is an interesting approach.  That's definitely the best way to get access to the widest selection of abilities from the Subterfuge, Sabotage, and weapon trees...  It's good that they are giving us Mark of the Rift as a Focus power so that we don't feel obligated to spend any points in specs we don't really want...

hmm, I am curious what other skill trees aside from specialization would be good for an archer rogue. besides obviously the archery skill tree.

Subterfuge?  You have lower threat generation, stealth, automatic criticals vs. sleeping enemies (Full Draw's upgrade puts enemies to sleep...), and 50% armor penetration if you attack from stealth...  Poisoned weapons couldn't hurt either...

Looking at some of the passives for the rogue. The amount of bonuses from them can get you extra damage, critical hits, and some stamina regen.

All the rogue talents work for the archer and the dual wielding rogues, so it's a matter of how deadly you wish to be.

I personally think a maxed out archer and sabotage along with some pieces from subterfuge, and a maxed out specialization makes for one seriously lethal rogue who can impede enemy mobility, do high damage, all the while stealth with a threat reduction. Own that battlefield!!!!

Yeah, I'm just so interested in the normal trees that I don't have any points left over. But if I like the Assassin tree, I'm gonna forego the Sabotage tree and put those points in Assassin.

Indeed.  Passing on interesting skills is a serious challenge, especially since we don't know what everything does.  Thankfully my first char is pretty solid, so by the time I get around to playing as a rogue or warrior, I'll know how every ability works and which ones will be the best choices for those PCs.  Deciding what to give the companions is still kind of hard sometimes...

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out exactly how I'm gonna configure my main party. I have to give them talents in such a way as for them to mesh with my own spells.

I've been trying to give everyone on the team at least 1 detonator and 1 incapacitation ability, but that's not always easy since we don't know exactly what counts as "incapacitated."

I think I've done alright with the warriors... Iron Bull is a weapon and shield warrior who focuses on party buffs, Blackwall is a 2 handed warrior who will hopefully get a substantial defensive boost from his spec, and Cassandra is a sword and shield Templar (all Templar abilities).

My biggest problems are Varric, Dorian, and Solas... Varric's build has zero combo potential, and Dorian and Solas are kind of in limbo now that I've shifted the PC away from Winter and Vivienne has taken on the Storm and Inferno trees (no KE except Resurgence).  I need a good support mage, but right now I'm thinking the better choice would have to be Dorian since he's presumably a summoner...  on the other hand, the fact that Solas has an offensive spec might make him the better option since he doesn't need any elemental magic to be a threat...

Considering that I'll be keeping my standard 1 Rogue, 1 Warrior, 1 Mage, and 1 Main Character combination the basic thing I'll do is get my Warrior Companions into Tankish skills so they can keep enemies distracted.

Heck Iron Bull can make a good Heavy Damage Tank with the right skills.

Each Mage companion will get Barrier Skills so I can take any Mage companion without worrying about lack of barriers.

I kind of wished that Rogues could use the chain skill to do something like this with a Bow for big sized enemies...

but alas there would be a bunch of copy rights issues between these games that would get in the way.

You don't have to go with both detonator/incapacitate ability. There are weapon procs that cause "incapacitate status" (whatever that is called). Might be a bit more "random" than an ability, but it's still exist.

From the crafting "Q&A"

Can we craft weapons with elemental effects? —@yohanksm, Twitter

[CP]: Absolutely. Both the masterworking system and the runes system can apply elemental effects, some of which can help trigger cross-class combos with other abilities. An example is a masterwork material that gives a chance to cast Chain Lightning on a hit, shocking enemies and setting them up for a detonation attack such as Explosive Shot. Runes are exceptionally useful for targeting specific faction groups such as dragons, demons, and undead.

Heh man, Chain Lightning, Walking Bomb as procs. Makes me wonder if it's just spells or if its also some rogue/warrior abilities. The AoE taunt being a proc, or the single target one would be nice. The single target ice freeze thingy too would be snazzy.

I can only imagine how deadly the procs will be on dual-wielded daggers. You could easily trigger two different procs or increase the chance of triggering a proc if the daggers have the same masterwork ability. Personally, I'll be going for dual-wielded masterwork daggers with the chain lighting proc.

Hm... that sounds interesting, but also a bit too chaotic for my liking.  Unless the chance to cast one of these spells is very high, I'll probably avoid the spell procs and stick with life drain and elemental runes... I think I'll be avoiding the fire runes, though.  If those have a chance to cause "Panic" or "Fear," then I won't use them.  Enemies randomly deciding to run off during battle sounds annoying (I never took this upgrade for the Fire spells in Skyrim).

Ice runes on Bianca might be a decent solution for Varric though... I am mainly trying to avoid duplicating Cole and Sera's abilities, but his Artificer tree doesn't sound very appealing outside of a few passives...  However, if all three Assassin abilities look useful, I could replace Long Shot (big "maybe" here) on Cole and give that to Varric instead... the Full Draw upgrade can put enemies to sleep (although it sounds more likely that Full Draw will flat out kill them... lol), so Varric would be within my build guidelines without being identical to another party member.
